On lakes with long forks like Lewisville, do fish located at the dam, really migrate to creeks? I know some fish stay in areas year round. Is the thought process that a higher percentage of fish are leaving the dam area to go a few miles west, or north to a creek? Are the creek fish just easier to catch? It has been an entire month of lower than normal temps and lots of new water. The deeper brush pile fish are not biting at all and the banks are filled with dinks. In the past I would blame turnover for the low fish numbers, but the water cleaned up quickly and the bait fish are everywhere. Are these fish making long transitions to far away creeks? If so, why would we not be seeing some fish already at the mouths of these creeks? It seems this way every year on Lewisville. Early fall fishing sucks.

Like you said bait is everywhere. Not all the bass follow the bait. The resident Bass know they are coming and stay put. Fishing sucks because nothing beats live bait. I like to drive and follow the bait into coves; but pick those that it has just started. I have much better chance before all that bait packs in there. Some of your questions may be answered here: http://texasfishingforum.com/forums/ubbthreads.php/topics/12910645/#Post12910645My post here is what has worked best for me. The Bass that are following will run into the Crayfish and switch gears. I throw baits and mimic the Crayfish and all the other species that are following the Shad; but NOT the Shad itself.

I think your big resident fish will stay put, your active schools will chase the bait. The fish that push bait up into the backs of the creeks are active feeders and easier to catch. If there are some bigger fish already in the area that the active fish are feeding then they will slip up and feed on the leftovers or other small bass that present an easy target.

I thought about bigger fish feeding on the small bass, but the big worms that worked so well all summer have quit getting bit.

I have not had much luck with the crayfish imitation baits lately either. Lewisville may just have too much baitfish. Added with the extreme fishing pressure all year, I guess I will spend my weekends at the deer lease.

I got about 25 dinks shallow yesterday on the Lew.
Waters still 80-83. I think the bigger fish will show when we see those temps in the low 70s.

Tons of shad everywhere.
They are small. Found some floating. Like 1 inch threadfins all over. I agree with Don H. I had more luck by far with crawfish baits than shad stuff.
