You know how I know you are wrong? The 2017 I was in yesterday averaged 19.6 on the way back from south Louisiana.

Ok, maybe a 2wd with high ratio gears and street tires will on a long straight haul.

A 4x4 (which is what I drive) with appropriate sized tires will not

My partner has had 3 of them in a row.

Before DEF, a 4x4 would do it all day long.

His last dodge diesel truck ( A 2014) with 35s was a 12-14 mpg at best truck

Yep, I dont believe a CC 4x has gotten 20 for years

CC and 4x4. New tires pulled it down to a computer calculated 18.7 for the trip. Might not be 20 but the stock tires were close to 20. Damn sure not 12-14 like you two are claiming popcorn

I don't why anybody would worry about what other people do.

Have to chime in here grin
I run a 2015 2500 4x4 cummins. I average 20.5 on highway at 75mph, average 18.5 pulling my boat
factory, no mods at all, that's checking it manually, not going off of instrument panel

He asked for input. If he wants to get 8 mpg then by all means, more power to him.

Funny thing is that's exactly what I got last time I towed a boat with a diesel.

I'd rather have less mileage from a Ford then decent mileage in a dodge and waits for the dash and everything else fall apart. Dodge- great motor, rest is junk.

Because some of us use a 3/4 ton for towing or hauling heavy loads, but don't necessarily put enough miles on our trucks to justify the extra upfront cost of a diesel, nor the higher cost of maintenance.

Yes, diesels have higher long-term resale/trade value, and get better mileage. But that only helps if you get your money's worth in the use of the truck.
