Is a casting reel that becomes tempermental after getting wet from rain for example an indication of a low quality product? Or is it common among all reels sub the $200 price tag? I fish almost entirely with 13 Fishing Concept A reels and I love them but I have noticed that if I'm fishing in the rain they become almost uncontrollable even with brakes and spool tension nearly turned to max!

Never had that problem with any reel. Can't imagine water causing that. Not familiar with that brand of reel but sounds like something inside the reel broke. Are all the reels doing the same thing ?

Yes. I have I think 7 Concept A's and they all react the same way in wet weather. Once the weather is gone and the reels dry a bit they return to their normal fantastic selves. Seemed odd to me.

I noticed that with the 13 reels but not with my Shimano, Lews or Daiwa but I can't explain why that is. The 13's cast fine when dry.

IDK man, you may have to stop fishing in the rain or get new reels. I've got Garcia 4600c and BPS reels and never had that problem, in fact the Garcia's work better in the rain. Don't use braid though so there might be something with that.

Lol. Thought about switching over to Shimano since they've been in the game forever.

My 13 Concept Z has all sorts of issues in the rain. It messes with the brakes quite a bit.

All Lews and Diawas here. They get wet a lot. I even dunk them when holding the line and letting the entire rod and reel slide down as a lure retriever. No issues.

So you are saying the line gets wet? And then the reel acts up?

I'd think the reel has a serious fitment issue if water so easily gets inside the reel. Changing line isn't gonna help, since, well, the line is supposed to get wet. grin

I have 4 Concept A's and have fished in the rain several times and never noticed a difference. Even dropped one over board before, shook it a few times and it cast just fine. Not sure of what to think on why yours act up when wet.

My old shimano Curado 200e7s would do this if they got dunked in the water. You could almost bet that you were about to get a giant backlash if it was soaking wet. I have never noticed this with any of my Daiwa, lews, or newer shimano reels
