Much cooler today, overcast, water temps 81, light breeze, fish biting. Caught 11 or 12, most on 10 inch power worm. Caught a few on Strike King Lucky Shad and Spinner bait. No bites on topwater, flutter spoon, weightless fluke or swimbait. bang

I fished the dam area for the first time in 5 years and couldn't believe how much grass there was. Its a solid wall from rocks to at least 8 foot depths the entire length and I found one area where the grass extended out to 15 feet.

Iconn4, I and others are still planning to be there the weekend after 10-24 date. I think Benny and his tribe will spend several days on the lake as is their usual custom. We'll firm this all up ahead of time.

Hope you and others will meet us there.

I am thinking about bringing out my Bluesky 360 Angler if I can work out the rest of its set up issues.

Brad

Yep, we are headed down there in the morning to fish Wed thru Sat. Tomorrow's forecast isn't too pleasing with rain all day but Thur - Saturday looks mighty fine! Good report Iconn4. And funny thing, I just received my order of some more 10" black grape Berkley Power worms!!! Hope you can make it back down there this week / weekend. Brad would love to see that 360 on the water and I don't think we have to put up with 30 mph winds like we did back in the spring!! Can't wait to get there!

I might try to make it there Wed or Thurs.. what time do you guys usually launch? What color/type kayaks are you paddling?
I fished there with CollinCounty Friday and they were biting spinner baits and square bills. I went back Sunday and caught a few more... broke a good one off on spinner bait and lost a couple of chunky ones on 5 inch swimbaits.

We should be pulling in around 8:30 a.m. or so. Will be 3 of us Wednesday and 4 of us Thurs - Sat and maybe one more. I have a rust colored WS Radar pedal yak, nephew has a red Diablo, Son in law in camo SeaGhost, fishing buddy in his tan Hobie PA 12. My nephew out fishes us all the time on size. He catches the big ones because he persistently throws those real big swim baits like Huddlestons and such. I have had most success on brush hogs and those Reaction Innovation Man Bear Pigs in green pumpkin, chartreuse tipped, just pitching around all timber junk. Also caught several on the 7 in power worm in black grape or blue fleck and on big underspins throwing black blue fleck Yamamoto heart tail swim bait. Last fall we did pretty good on frogs, way, way back up the lower end. This past spring we fished the bridge and opposite the boat ramp around to the south because wind was so crazy out of the north that week. I need to whip out the spinner and swim jig baits more than I do down there. May as well go down swinging! Hope to see you there. Will be lots of fun. Always is.

Benny/Iconn4,

I'll come on down most likely Saturday . . . but I may decide to fish Friday instead. Hmm? Not certain quite yet.

Yes, I'll go ahead and load up the Bluesky 360 and use it down there.

Benny, you might want to give it a spin. For throwing large swimbaits like your nephew? It'd be the bomb!!! You can stand just as easily as on the deck of a high priced bass boat.

Friday or Saturday.

Brad

If y'all are in the area Friday the new kayak shop in Nacogdoches is having a grand opening/ open house of sorts from 4-6pm. Tall Timber Outdoors, they're pretty good and have a great selection. I fish Nac a lot, great time of the year and they have been chewing. Big red or dark worms and swimbaits have been good, I also really like black/blue senkos weightless close to the bank

Nice! It's been awhile since I've been on Naconiche, I might have to visit again come spring.

Great day on the water today. Ended up with 10 and lost just as many, all on swimbaits in the thickest wood you could find in 3 to 5 feet of water. Rained early and often from the start... was raining so much when I got off the water that I wore my waders home... didn't want to get wet changing out of them. Nice meeting Benny and the guys. cheers Didn't find them until later in the afternoon as we went opposite directions.

Iconn4, do you prefer to head up toward the bridge, or sort of east toward the dam . . . or down south and west?

I have only fished it once, really cold day fishing tandem in my canoe, so we didn't cover a lot of water.

Seems like one of Benny's fishing crew, who throws the big swimbaits, stayed near the bridge the whole time last spring. But, I recall Benny and the rest of his tribe setting off at one point in the other direction, maybe south and then west into the lower part of the lake.

I hadn't really thought about it until you mentioned it but I've gravitated to the lower end of the lake over the years. To me it has more of what I'm looking for: more variety, more places to get further away from boat traffic, more floating timber that is stacked near shore line, more photogenic, and last but not least.. more fish! roflmao

Have definitely found more schooling fish during the summer on lower end. Since there is no map of the lake, its definitely a challenge to find new places on the water.

Supposedly a really good crappie lake. TPWD has it rated "excellent." It certainly looks like the sort of habitat a crappie angler would die for.

Iconn4, I did note you mentioning a trip or two earlier that you found tons of grass over by the dam. I think I'll either shoot off in that direction and otherwise work the lower part of the lake. This, assuming, Benny Hood and his tribe don't have some better ideas they share.

Firming up for Saturday for me, definitely not tomorrow. SO, unless it sleets . . .!!!

Brad.. you might want to reconsider your choice of fishing platforms since you have options. Yesterday those fish were relating to the thickest wood I could find shallow (3 to 5) with wind blowing into it. Who knows though because they rarely bite the same way at the same place two days in row. smile

PS.

Just to give you an idea, the fish I was catching were between back side of log jam in earlier picture and the bank. Lost a couple on earlier trip fishing swimbait behind the log jams that I posted in this thread and couldn't wait to get back and try it exclusively. Where I am in that picture was the furthest away from bank I fished. Found three or four areas like it, worked like a dog to crawl over to get to area behind the log jams, let things quieten down and then started fishing..

Iconn4, I'll be there at the crack of dawn, tomorrow, 10-27.

I have already loaded the 360 so I'll have to deal with and think through approaches. Actually, the 360's prop lifts entirely out of the water so I may just jack it up and paddle around. It has a very tiny draft, too.

Benny said here or on FB that the water is clearer on the north side of the lake, muddier down to the south. Not sure where he'll be tomorrow but I'll just wait and see how it all looks and decide from there!

I'm taking worms, shad baits, some miscellaneous lures!

Brad

A few dinks and one decent fish was all I managed at Fork... Wished I'd fished Naconiche.
