I am in 9th grade and starting to fish high school tournaments for the first time. My dad has taught me some, but I would still like to learn some more. My first tournament is on Lake Granbury in October and I am just looking for some tips and pointers.

Stay positive. I should remember that myself.

Keep it simple and fish your strengths, dont worry about what everyone else is doing. It's you against the fish.

Don't tie anything on that you're afraid to lose. Don't be lazy in prefish, you can never have enough spots or patterns.

I would think that in October you would want to throw shad colored baits (white/silver/grey). As the weather cools, the baitfish should be more active and the fall feed should be good. Good Luck!

1. Spinnerbait, chatterbaits and squarebills in shad colors
2. Senkos (T-rig, wacky)
3. Jigs and Craw style baits T-rigged
4. Topwater

Lake is in great shape after the recent rains and should get better as the water temps cool some more. Fish are spread out, but are following the bait...especially smaller bait right now.

You can fish shallow cover throughout the whole lake if that's what you like...(boat slips, rock, timber, and brush)

Can catch them deep if you like doing that too, but will take a little more time to figure out some spots before your Tourney.

Read Buck Perrys material and take time to learn how to locate fish before you get on the water and what do once on the water. Everyone can cast the latest and greatest stuff but you cant catch a fish if he is not where you are fishing. PM me if you need help finding it and check out my other recent posts. I am not selling anything just suggesting the best info I have found in 20 plus years of reading everything I can get my hands on.

PK and Granbury have been close to full or better for a while now. Whitney is 4-6ft low, will be good to get that lake back up.
