BASS announced it has cancelled the two 2019 Elite Series events on the west coast, on the Ca Delta and Columbia river. It seems they were acting on the wishes of the majority of the pros. B.A.S.S. has decided to cancel the 2019 Western Swing that included stops on the California Delta and Columbia River. They have told us that is was a decision based on the survey from the anglers that felt it was too far to travel to the West and it added expenses to the anglers I don't know if I can link another forum, but you can find it on the Western Bass' website. Very interesting few days in the bass fishing world

I was looking forward to it. I enjoy when they go to new fisheries or places they haven't been to in a few years

Hard for those putting out the cash to keep doing these cool events when the ROI is better sending a bag of baits or two to 900 youtuber kids with 300k loyal followers each.
The game has changed. For better or worse.

So.....For the Western States Anglers (Josh Bertrand, Brent Ehler, Roy Hawk, Brett Hite, Jared Lintner, Ish Monroe, Darrell Ocamica, Brandon Palaniuk, Cliff Pirch, Skeete Reese, Dean Rojas, Chris Zaldain)I guess this is just a big middle finger? I mean, does it not matter to the BASS Management that they spend all of THEIR money and time away from home and family to fish primarily in the South East?
Also, I could have sworn all I've heard the last couple of years from the BASS PR Machine is how they are going to "grow the sport" both nationally and internationally. This appears to be a step back from that mission statement. Not to mention, it is a slap in the face to the Open comepetitors, existing fans, and Western college fishermen who deserve to see their heros fish in person. If not, then lets just have 8 Elite tourneys in Alabama, and be done with it.
Maybe the sport is not as strong at the highest level as they would lead us to believe, or BASS is not as financially solvent as I thought. It seems to me that an organization that proclaims itself as the "ELITE" of bass fishing would have the financial resources to host a couple of Western state Elite tournaments every 5 years or so (which is about all they go there anyway) while finding a way to compensate those anglers who have to make the long journey, and vice versa for the anglers who live in the West and fish in the East.
OR>>> forgive me for attempting to provide logic, but any angler that doesn't want to make the trip West, DON'T GO! Nobody is forcing them to fish! They can take their chance with the other 6 tourneys and accumlate their points there.
Anyway, fire away! It's just one fan's opinion and either there's something more to this, or BASS is not the pinacle of fishing it once was, contrary to what they would lead us to believe.

Here is a quote from Gary Dobyns from another site:In defense, BASS wanted to come out here. The anglers did not. I don't blame them either. It's a hell of a haul and the reason so many of our anglers have simply moved back East to fish BASS. It's just a suck situation all the way around. In the old days the guys would of simply loaded up and headed out but it's a different world we live in now.
BASS can't commit to much until it knows who is or isn't fishing with them. A lot of the long time BASS guys are butt hurt these new comers, that they were able to keep out for some time, are kicking their rears. The next to last straw was Lee winning the Classic again this year. The last straw was the western swing. Old farts not wanting to drive out their. But yet they'll go elk hunting out their. I would love to see everyone tell those original 28 MLF to enjoy their dink fest fish every 3 day events and stay with BASS but they wont.

Wouldnt surprise me if there is more to it than that. Like the hosting communities couldnt come up with the money they pay BASS to host their tournaments

Personally, I don't think BASS will be able to afford the expenses themselves. BASS Elite Series is about to be a shell of its former self and I'm betting the new owners are none to happy with their purchase.

BASS has host agreements in place before they announce. This is simply a reactive move to their angler survey data and the MLF news.
