I have been fishing them for about ten years. Great, high end reels, and have never had a problem. The MGFV is great for pitching or flipping. You don't have to turn the crank to engage the spool, just push the thumb bar forward. Mine are all 7.1s. Shimano has replaced the Core 100 with the Mentanium, about the same weight as the Core 100, but with more line capacity. I don't think the Mentanium has the flipping mode. The Core 50 has been replaced by the Alderberan, another sweet reel.

Love the Cores, I have maybe 15 of them. I have had a few MGFV's but sold them due to the high price they went for. There was no real benefit to the FV, I rarely used them. All FV's are 7.1:1 and honestly I prefer a faster reel for flipping anyways, but even despite that the flipping mechanism wasn't that special ant it did nothing with the spool control while mid cast to limit backlashes. I would personally save the $25-75 and load up on used MG's instead.
