The MLF thread has me thinking about the "dink fest"... Myself I would rather catch (20) 1-3lb fish any day over one or two big fish. I like getting bit but I fun fish for the most part and maybe fish one or two tournaments a year. I don't get the fish all day for five bites mentality but again I fish because I have loved to fish since my grandpa taught me how as a boy not to win money.
See you on the lake and have a great day!

It depends on if I'm fishing a tournament or just for fun. For fun I would prefer 20 1-3 fish over one or two 5 pounders. But if we're talking about a giant 8+, I think I'd rather catch one of those. For a tournament I feel like if I'm catching a lot of 2-3 pounders that I'll eventually come across a kicker or two as well so it would be hard to leave that pattern

I prefer size, I fish a lot of 6-7" glide baits for 7-10lb bass. I do agree that quantity would be more fun consistently, but I cant get over the thrill of seeing huge bass come up, even if I have to grind for it.

I feel quality will come if you're catching numbers. So I go out with one mindset. Catch as many fish as I possibly can in a day. And its worked.

Fished a club tourney last year on PK and we caught over 100 bass and 17 stripers. Only weighed in 4 bass and didn't even finish in the top 10. Had a blast, but I was disappointed when we went to weigh-in - we sucked. I quit the bass club thing and tournament fishing last December and now I just fish for fun, so much more enjoyable!

I go to catch as many of the biggest fish possible. If I run across a school of smaller ones I'm going to wear them out as well.

I need to focus on the easiest to catch. 99% of the time, that is not the giants.

Fish for 5-6 hours on hot and humid day without a bite and I guarantee your mindset will change. A one pounder will work just fine. I'll take any and all the fish that are biting 4oz and up.

Generally speaking though a dink fest will bore me to death. I strongly prefer to at least be fishing water I think has potential to produce larger fish. I get virtually no thrill out of a 2lb bass. I hook them, I land them, they are back in the water so fast I barely even have time to processes it. For me the ticker starts going a little faster at about the 5lb mark. Nobody remembers the 20 fish day of 2lbers. Everyone remembers the day they caught the giant.

Have to disagree a little there J, I've had the pleasure of catching a 14 pounder and I've had the joy of catching the 20 2lb'ers and I remember them both. The ones that haunt me are the days when I didn't catch squat. The odds of me repeating the 20 2lb'ers is much greater than catching another 14 and the odds of me zeroing again are better than either. When I pull my boat out of the garage and head toward the lake my goal is to catch fish. Any fish. Now if a biggun gets on my hook that's great, but I love'm all. I even like catching sand bass, stripers and crappie. I just love to catch fish, period.

Quality, without a doubt. I dream all year about clear water, dead of winter jerkbait and a-rig fishing. Maybe get 4-7 bites a day, but every one of them will be a good one. There is absolutely nothing better than that bite on the pause on a jerkbait.

Zach Hughes and I caught close to 100 2 lbs fish. It was flat out fun. Ive caught a lot of big fish too. But days like that are what memories are made of.

I tend to get distracted and will start fishing schooling sandies even on tournament day so I guess numbers. I do refocus after a few minutes.

I really love to do both, but for me nothing beats setting the hook into a giant and then seeing it come up for the first time. But I'll take catching good numbers too.

Neither. Just a handful, or better, of 3-5 pounders.

If you're tournament fishing, as I do, I think quantity is more dependable. As other's have said, you're probably going to cull, and cull with at least one nice upgrade, but unless you come in with a limit, you're more than likely not going to be competitive. Especially in a multi day tournament.

I don't see how that can be boring. I just like to catch fish. Especially if I'm taking someone with me.

Prepare for the future-it will be here tomorrow. Personal Best Large Mouth Bass 9 lbs. 12 oz 5/13/19. Herb Stein, who famously reminded us that “if something can’t go on forever, it will stop.”

Size. The only problem fishing for size is that your not guaranteed to catch anything.

I love to catch fish of all sizes but if I know I am fishing a lake where I could potentially catch a giant I am much more engaged.

Last Saturday, I took my grandson out to the hunting lease which has several lakes up to 20 acres. We slayed them on Wackie Worms. Size did not matter. Biggest was about 3 lbs, but my grandson didn't care, he just wanted to catch fish. Now, we have a place on Fork so I spend a lot of time there . Before I can't do it anymore, I want to catch a ten pound bass. I've gotten close a couple of times, but close doesn't count. So, I'll keep trying. Meanwhile, I can honestly say, that I like both ways of fishing. One just produces more fish. If the Aggies or TCU ever start winning again, I'll spend more time in front of the TV, but until then, I'm in the boat.

I don't prefer either. I am thankful for whatever I catch. You catch enough and eventually you are bound to hook into a big un. So I guess for the sake of the question asked it would be qty.

In over 40 years of bass fishing , I have landed plenty of bass between 9 and 12 lbs . Yes those are thrilling and would be beneficial in a tourney , but without a doubt , I would rather catch 20 , 1 to 3 lbers any day of the week . The adrenaline rush is the same when they strike and you set the hook and I would rather have that 20 times versus 1 time ---" the tug is the drug "

In my book 30+ fish trips are as memorable as an 8 lb plus.
