It may well be that it's pretty hard to shock up the biggest bass in a system. As I recall the effective range of a shock boat is only about 8 feet. According to John Hope most giant bass don't come that shallow very often outside of the spawn. Not to mention the bigger fish tend to spook out well ahead of a shock boat moving through their area.

In any case, a single bass over 20lbs shocked out of Fork would have been news heard round the bass world for years.

I do think Amistad would be a place, so many humps and valleys that are never fished. The second I would say is Choke Canyon, If and that's a big if that lake ever fills up. fish will be able to live and grow in all the new growth for many years. we saw it in the mid 2000s what it was capable of, the growth is just so much now. It would be as fertle as a new lake.

As the owner of a shock boat and a person who shocks more than 50 lakes a year, I can tell you it is unusual to shock really big fish. The real effective depth of shocking is closer to 6 feet deep. I can count the number of double digit fish shocked, at less than 5 fish over the past 10 years. To make this even more clear, we had a lake in east Texas where our members caught via rod and reel, 11 fish over 10 lbs in a 6 week period in the summer of 2017. I have shocked the lake three times and we have never shocked a 10lb plus bass. While electrofishing is a valuable tool, and I still love shocking the big ones, electofishing shocks a disproportionate amount of smaller fish.

Zero

100% But it was caught and released in a very large private lake in 1997.

To me the post implied public waters (still zero) and by the way the 1997 catch almost sounds like camp fire talk. Surly they took pictures of the fish?

If a 10 lb hawg could be caught on lake bardwell useing a chicken mcnugget as bait anything is possible.i would also look at lake naconiche for a big fish in the future.

And if a record was caught on a McNugget would it count? As far as I am concerned that is artificial bait.

I always wondered if there was one out there that would break the 20lb mark. Then one spring day site fishing on Fork I saw a girl so big I literally fell to me knees. My wife was with me that day and she said " Whats wrong are you ok?" I said I think I just saw a state a record swim under the boat. The thing that sticks out in my mind the most is just how big the eyes where on this fish, golf ball size. I went back a week later hoping to see her again all I found was about million fry. Every time I go by that spot I wonder how big was that fish? That is my big bass story

I think Lake Athens might produce the next Monster Bass. If they will let the grass grow.
