I was there about 4-5 weeks ago. It was a fun day nothing Stellar. Lots a matted grass on every point there. I was headed back the next weekend just never had the chance. You will have the lake to yourself pretty much. Frog and deadsticking a fluke around the grass. Had a few off the big old tire pile on a jig. Stopped off at Sam's and had the buffet before I hit the road. That place is still a rocking.

I'm trying to decide between going to Fairfield or Athens tomorrow. I've never fished Athens but it sounds like its fishing slow right now. If you see a blk/slvr/red Skeeeter out there that'll be me.

I've been to both lakes within the last month.....I'd choose Fairfield for both numbers and size. They both fish similarly. A deep c rig bite is good...so is top water frog bite.

Thanks for the advice Steez! I'll be at Fairfield tomorrow morning. I'll have to try Athens later this Fall. Hopefully the bite there turns around soon because I really want to fish that lake.

I've heard Fairfield is drawn down a little and with it being late Summer I'm curious if anyone has seen any hazards I need to he aware of?

It was 2-1/2 ft low when I went. Nothing dangerous on the main lake. The shallow upper ends are stumpy at full pool.....and most stumps are out of the water enough to see now. All the good fishing was in the main lake, so I never ventured to the upper ends anyways.

The grass is THICK. so thick, that flipping reeds is almost impossible without a push pole. The stuff is out about 15-30 ft, matted to the top of the water, in front of the reeds.

Just throw a frog onto the mats and use a white buzz along the outer edges. When (if) the topwater bite slows, back out and use a c rig along the outer edges of the grass and as deep as 25 ft. Fish the tire piles and rocks.

Eat. Sleep. Fish.

Caught 5 today at Fairfield. Lost 3 right at the start on a frog and then landed 1 before the frog bite shut off. The other 4 came on fluke, 10" shaky head, and c-
rig.

Frog bite wasn't deep in the mat or even on the mats really. All my blowups came on the edges after I pulled the frog away from the grass. Most bites came in 12-20 foot of water.
