I'm new to catfishing mainly bass fished and crappie fished. I'm fishing out of a kayak and plan fishing for blues and yellows from evening into the night this weekend. Anyone willing to give me some pointers on to fish shallow, deep, one or the other at a particular time? Not quite sure on how cats move certain times of the year. Just looking for some info to get me started and learn from there. Thanks!I'm fishing a lake btw,it's kinda low so more like a big river.

I've never kept one over 16lbs....smaller than that they go in the frying pan.

With the popularity of catfishing going up. Letting fish over ten to 15 lbs grow is the popular trend.

If you have a nice breeze, I would drift fish with live bait or cut perch/shad. I prefer cut bluegill. Drifting will allow you to cover more ground and possibly find a pattern. Not sure where you are fishing or if you have any electronics, but if you can find the baitfish in the shallows, blues will not be far behind.

We do good fishing under lights at night. Get the bait fish in, then the cats will come. I use floating crappie lights. I like to find a shallow spot with stumps and deep water close by. Be careful at night in the Kayak. Snakes like to lay on logs at night and if you see a pair of red eyes, pray . Good luck and hope you catch your limit.
