I’ve seen some sporadic schooling. Nothing major

I haven't found any numbers in the last three trips in the past week and a half. I guess I will go try again Wednesday just to get out.

I had the pontoon out on Saturday afternoon. Slight breeze. Don't have a graph or a trolling motor. Positioned boat about 30 yards out from the shoreline that is just East of Twin Coves/Murrell Park.(so towards the dam) Might actually be the very East end of Murrell Park. Not sure how deep I was in but would guess about 20ft of water given how long it took my 1/2 ounce Kastmaster to hit bottom. I was throwing towards the shoreline. Got lucky-hit a pocket of fish holding in about a 20X20ft zone. Slow/erratic hopping of the spoon and I caught a keeper sandbass on as many casts as I could get in before the boat drifted off the sweet spot. Even caught some crappie. There were several times they would hit the spoon constantly as I was slowly reeling it in through the water column. I didn't have a white feather on the treble hook but I bet I would have hooked a lot more of these chasers. They were feeding on really small shad. I made 3-4 passes with the boat but once the breeze died down, the bite absolutely quit. The fish never schooled on top but as I was pulling up to that spot I could see small shad jump from being chased. That told me there should be more fish ganged up down deep and sure enough they were down there. I could have caught a bunch more if I had a trolling motor.

So what you are saying there is hope! I have a few Kastmasters laying around. Will give that a try Wednesday.

Went to Grapevine. Had the lake to myself Monday afternoon.. Small whitecap waves and never caught a fish. Left and went to Joe Pool and caught a few.

I'm still going against my better judgment. Beat sitting at home though.

Haven't been out still battling back issues but if they turned off the aerator because of the dam repairs it changes the whole way the lake fishes. Fish the North shore all the way to where it curves back towards the main lake. The flat out from that turn will hold whites if the shad are running there. Also the Rock Crusher usually will hold them when the turn off the aerator. It's weird but that aerator makes a difference for the whole Lake.

It(bubbles) has been off for a while now. Rock Crusher held nothing biting last week. I worked the north shore close to the corner of the dam that same day and had nothing there, but it has been a good place to hit in the past. Only hit Murrell flats and point yesterday and only landed one small catfish.

Did see a guy at the ramp with a limit of Catfish that was epic in size and qty. Cat fishing must have been the game of the day.

Sand Bass are stacked in the mouth of McPherson slew. And every morning they have schooling in front of the dove ramp.

Glad somebody has found some.
Been missing the mornings, so maybe I need to try those spots next.
Thanks for the insight.

Hey JWC! cheers

I Have not made it out to Grapevine this year to date. My work life is crazy busy so when I do get to get out it is usually last minute. This means a local trip to Lake Arlington or Joe Pool. I was however looking forward to the slaughter on the aerator in September and October. Are you saying they are off? Someone mentioned a repair to the damn. Should I table these expectations this year? I can find them elsewhere but Sept/Oct is always good at the dam.

Wish I had a clue for chasing sandies.
My truck went down last Friday so I haven't been out. Will try this weekend and see. The last few trips have been pathetic for me.

Found then at the mouths of the North shore coves . With all the south wind. They should be there in the morning.

I'll try to be out at daybreak Saturday. Haven't been out in the morning in a long time. Try to be gone before the last hoorah crazys get there.
