The "painful lesson" thread started me thinking about some of the shenanigans I've pulled on my partner(s) over the years.

So, back in the late '80's the fish at Fork would school in the fall in the backs of the creeks like crazy. I mean good ones too! Three to 5 pound fish chasing shad on the surface all around you in the back of White Oak or Birch. One evening about an hour before dark me & my buddy Robert are back in White Oak around all the flooded cedar trees and the fish are going NUTS on top! taz

We were throwing white spinnerbaits and catching fish on every other cast. My buddy Robert is super-competitive and I was too back then. It was always a contest on who caught the most & biggest fish of the trip. The loser had to buy dinner on the way home.

Every time we would boat a fish we would call out, "That's #16!" and so on. We were neck & neck in our little contest as we both stood shoulder 2 shoulder on the tip of the bow of my boat. Fish were blowing up, boiling all around the boat, sometimes so aggressively they would actually splash water on the boat. happy8

We knew we only had a short window of time before it got dark so we were chunkin & windin as fast as we could! Robert catches one fish that is pushing six pounds. This is a long time ago so a 6 pounder was a good fish back then. thumb

I tell him to throw it in the livewell so we can weigh it later and take pics (yes we actually had to snap photos with a real camera then take the roll of film to the local drug store and drop it off, then 3 days later we would go back & pickup the pics) roflmao

He sits his rod down and takes the fish to the livewell. As he is admiring the fish & placing it into the well I grabbed his spinnerbait and my needle-nose pliers. I mash the hook completely down on the bait, I mean, down to the hook shank!

Meanwhile I catch another fish and throw it back. Robert picks up his rod and starts chunking. He is telling me how good dinner is going to taste as we fish on and starts rubbing in the fact that he has the biggest fish of the day. I catch another fish as he misses one. Now I am two up on him. He keeps throwing and misses two more!

He asks me if I am using a trailer hook and I say something about my superior angling skills negating the for things like trailer hooks. wink

I am now four fish up on him and he finally looks closely at his bait. He shows it to me and says, "How in the world could that have happened??" I shrug my shoulders and keep fishing while he starts digging for another spinnerbait. I say something about the bite force of a large bass potentially crushing the hook, telling him I've seen it happen once in a blue moon. He shakes his head and by then it is pitch dark and we have to start idling out of the creek to open water.

I finally told him what I did about two years ago. We had a good laugh and went fishing again. Good Times!! roflmao roflmao roflmao

Bumping the rod butt to get them to swing and miss. Now the act itself is a common prank and is not what is all that funny, it was the length of time it took him to figure it out along with his animated hook set. Man this went on for what seemed like hours before he figured it out. We were at the point that it was no longer fun and going to just stop. He went through lure changes, hook changes, picked up I don't know how many rods. The light finally came on when he realized that he was the only one getting bit.

Years ago, a buddy and I were tournament fishing on Bridgeport, the lake was known for a massive population of snakes and my buddy (as I am) was / is terrified of snakes. Well before the tournament started I placed one of those rubber snakes in the livewell. We have a few fish in the livewell and nobody was really paying attention while we placed fish in the livewell. Well I say to him, hey can you check the fish and make sure they are alive and well still, its the middle of summer... well that rubber snake had started to float while he pulls the cull ring floats and got tangled into the cull rings. He pulls the floats out and that snake made an appearance, my buddy let out a scream the whole lake heard then I hear a splash as the fish, cull ring and snake landed in the water, I almost fell in the lake I was laughing so loud and hard... luckily we did catch more fish to make up for the one he tossed...

Pulled the cord on buddies inflatable while going down the lake. Cost me $28 but it was hilarious.

I was fishing with 2 buddies and had a couple in the livewell. Things had slowed down and I was in back of boat. They were looking forward and casting so I eased one about 3# out and hooked him on my spinnerbait and eased him back in water. Let out some line and said I got one. Reeled him in and back in livewell. I repeated this several times while they didnt get bit. Had them going for a while, changing baits and asking questions, till one looked back and caught me getting one out of livewell. I even convinced one holding his rod with the reel at 3:00 oclock instead of 12:00 when reeling, was how I was catching them.

Found a dead rattlesnakes the night before, ntied fishin line around it and attached to the bottom of the livewell lid, it was funny as hell when that first keeper went in there! The partner was my wife and she didn't speak to me all day, it was very peaceful and quite day.

was fishing at fork one day with a buddy who had not fished much in his life. it was spring, so we were fishing weightless watermelon flukes and dipping the tails in chartreuse garlic dye. he asked me about the dye, and i said, you know, it's funny that the dye will change the color of the fluke, but it won't affect your finger. go ahead, stick your finger in there and see for yourself.

well, he did, and you know what that dye does to your finger!! plus he smelled like an italian cafe for the rest of the day. and the next. and the next.

Had a fishing buddy that everytime I made me a sandwich when we were fishing he would say would you mind making me one. So one day we were crappie fishing and he pulls that. I made him a nice big sandwich with about six crappie minnows added for extra flavor. He gets about half way through it and looks at me with this strange look. Im trying not to laugh and he has a minnow about halfway in his mouth and he starts gagging. He almost threw me out of the boat. Now he makes his own sandwich.

It horrifies me to hear these stories. Fishing is serious business. Ther is no time for fun and games, nor practical joking. I'm very disappointed in you guys.

My buddy has always had the tendency to stick stuff in his mouth when retying. Baits, plastics, hooks, and weights. One day in a tournament on Limestone he is retying his Carolina rig and sticks a one ounce weight in his mouth. The last tungsten we had too by the way as we broke off constantly that day. Anyway Im on the front and hear him choking and gagging. Finally he starts to breath and says I just swallowed a weight. Am I going to die? That was funny enough but at weigh in hes telling everybody and me and another guy, as if it were planned, both convince him it can come out one of two ways. One is no big deal and the other will require amputation. I kept him convinced for a solid 24 hours until he comes running out of the bathroom holding the weight. He tied it back on a rod.

stripping off about 20 feet of line and cutting it, then winding it back in on somebodys rattle trap rod is always highly entertaining.
