I plan to take a vacation, with smallmouth fishing, a North Texas area lake. Fall or Spring, for most consistent, bite? Any other facts, I should know? Thanks, all!

Texoma in Nov. or Dec. would be my pick. Small bandit crankbaits on rocks and cover a bunch of water.

Long time ago, Lake Whitney was the best smallmouth lake in Texas. But could not tell you the status or information on the present time on this lake. Maybe you could get some information off the internet on it. Good Fishing to you. fish

Golden algae several years ago seems to have pretty well wiped out the smallmouth from Whitney, much better lakes in Texas as mentioned above

They put 220,000 smallmouth in Meredith a year or two ago. It has had close to 12 million walleye stocked in the last 3 years as well.

If you really want to catch some football size smallies, take a trip to Lake Erie. You'll be hard pressed to find a better smallmouth fishery in the states
