Buddy of ours let me and my boys stay at his beach place and my boys were wanting to get him a decent spinning rod and reel he can use off his dock in the bay.
He isn't a huge fisherman or anything but the couple reels he has are junk.

Any suggestions on one that would stand up to all the saltwater and corrosion

Many thanks-

What would he be fishing for? and what is your budget?
Unless completely sealed, all reels will need a rinse and some maintenance if dunked or sprayed with saltwater.

Rod, a 7'Med or MH fast action would work. Not highly regarding to show off, but you can't go wrong with the Ugly Stiks. GX2 or Elite.

I like the new Daiwa BGs, best reel under 100$ and matches the stradics and other reels in the 2-250 $ range. I have not had it long enough to know about durability, but it is smoother than a Penn Battle II 4000 which is another great choice. (Daiwa 3000 is equivalent).

Others will chime in with more recs, but that setup will be around $150 and maybe less if you find sales, but ould be great for reds, trout and flounder. If surfcasting for bigger critters Iwould up the reel to a 5000 or 6000, maybe bigger and a heavier rod.

Thanks Spoonxx
I'll check those out online to see what we can get lined up to get him
Would be just reds, specks and maybe flounder....that's what we caught last weekend anyway
