Lately, flounder gigging trips have turned into "Flounder Grinding Trips".

The last 3 nights of flounder gigging have been up and down. A slow grind one night, and fast action the next. The deciding factor on good fishing recently has been the water temperature, and the weather during the day has made a huge difference in the results we see at night. On nights after hot/sunny days, we do poorly, on nights after an overcast/rainy day, we do very well. This pattern is typical for August, but this Summer the fishing has been much tougher overall. Hopefully we will have some cloudy/rainy days ahead, but the current forecast calls for sunny, hot, and windy conditions for the next week.

I had new customer Steve S. group of 6 onboard tonight. Conditions were nice, with ESE wind at 10mph and slightly high tide levels. We got off to a very slow start, with only 2 flounder by 11pm. After making several moves, we dialed-in on some better fishing. The group called the trip early at 1am, and we ended with 21 flounder plus 3 black drum.

I had new customer Don S. group of 7 onboard, including grandma and 4 year-old August who were just along for the ride. I knew tonight would be good, with overcast and rainy conditions most of the day, letting the shallows stay cooler. Conditions were nice, with SE wind at 10mph and slightly high tide levels. We got off to an amazing start, with 17 flounder by 11pm. We ended with a 25 flounder limit plus 4 black drum, and 2 sheepshead by 12:30am.

I had repeat customer Ron Rose group of 2 onboard tonight. Conditions were poor, with SSE wind at 15-20mph and slightly low tide levels. It was a slow grind to find flounder, and we never really found any pattern or concentration of fish. We had 3 flounder at 11pm. We hit 8 different spots tonight, with 1-2 fish per stop, and some areas had no flounder. We ended with a 10 flounder limit plus 4 sheepshead and 1 black drum by 1:30am.
