I just got a 2002 115 HP mercury that has been sitting for 2 years. The motor ran great before the owner parked the boat. I have put the motor on my pontoon boat and will try to start it next week end. Any suggestions of what to do to the motor before I turn it over and try to start it?
Not sure if there is a lubricant to put in the cylinders? Or when it starts add extra oil to the gas to help lubricate? Any suggestions are appreciated.

Pull the plugs and soak each piston down with WD40. With the plugs pulled, pull the kill switch and hit the starter for a few seconds to lube the cylinder walls. With muffs on the hose running, never dry start, it'll kill your water impeller quick.

Fresh fuel would solve several problems.

if it hasnt been run for 2 yrs do water pump gear lube an a carb job it will save you a lot of headache in the future. also a 10 micron fuel filter is a good idea.

All of the above.
Rebuild carbs or clean injectors
Replace all fuel line and primer bulb. Tank to motor
New water pump impeller
New spark plugs after cylinder lubrication
Fresh fuel.

You can pay a mechanic a little now, or a lot later.

I found a mechanic in Groesbeck and will be taking the motor to him to have all the work suggested done. Thanks for the input!
