I have a gas F250 which I bought brand new in Mar 2015. Dropped it off today for routine service today at the dealership (I have a prepaid service plan), and they left me a message saying that the battery needs to be replaced because it has low cold cranking amps.

Now, I know that boat batteries wear out relatively fast (2-3 years), but the rusty innards of my mechanical memory tell me that truck batteries last longer than 3 years. Especially new batteries in a new truck.

Haven't noticed any dimmed lights, difficulty starting, etc, and my inclination is to hold off on the battery replacement. If nothing else, it gives me time to price out the best deal on a replacement.

Most batteries these days are 3yr batteries. They are getting away from 5 yr ratings! Newer cars and trucks have so much electronics, that batteries just dont last as long as they used too. I usually tell my customers that if their battery is more than 3yrs old, look at getting it replaced!

I try to replace mine at 5 years, whether they need it or not.

On new car batteries I go about 3.5 years and then change. Better than being marooned at a boat ramp or a dark alley.

If its not a sealed battery check the water level on it. Charge the batter on a charger once at the end of summer and once at the end of winter. It will surprise you how long a batter lasts. Being a daily driver will help extend it, if its one that sits for periods of time then it will hurt their life.

3 years. The hotter the weather, the harder on the batteries.

Batteries have paid a lot of my bills over the years. 3-5 years is about normal. We do a lot of batteries under warranty but more that are slightly out of warranty. If you make it to the upper end close to 5 years you've gotten lucky.

They started telling me that when I took my new truck in for the 2nd oil change at 10,000 miles. Had only had the truck 7 0r 8 months. I told them that if the quality of the battery is an indication of the quality of their vehicles then maybe I should switch brands and if they are so hard up they have to try to scare people and upsale on every service visit that's another reason to switch brands.

I just changed out two 4 year old Interstates.

Toyota dealer tries to sell me $30 cabin filters. I got to where I put a note in the comment section when I make appt. not to checks filters. Last oil change they mentioned that it needed replacing. When I got home I took it out and it had some loose debris but nothing more. I just knocked the debris out and reinstalled. I have heard of dealers charging a lot more. I wonder how many little old ladies they are ripping off. I have had a Ford battery die in about 9 months with no warning. Fortunately I had boat and just used one out of it to get home. I have had others go 5-6 years. Heat is hard on them.

3 yrs....

They last exactly 1 day after the warranty expires. If they said it�s gonna die soon, then believe them. They told me the same thing with my diesel and I didn�t listen, 2 weeks later and mine went out.

I don't remember how long my 2 batteries in my Dodge are but I think they are over 4 years old.

Factory batteries are probably not the highest quality, like all the other parts. You should be able to buy better ones to replace it.

I am playing with putting lifetime batteries in my truck. NOTE: I am 64, lifetime means I hope it lasts for 20 years. By then I may not be driving.

The cabin filter are like your home a/c filters. They do stop big debris but are there to stop the fine dust that can collect on your evaporator and causing poor air flow over time. They actually work pretty good. I've had several where the customers comes in thinking they have a warranty covered repair for poor airflow. When I find a clogged cabin filter it's not warranty and that $30 maintenance item just turned into a $160 diagnosis and repair. Now that's a rip off PSA-check your cabin filter before you take your vehicle in for a poor airflow repair.

You would probably be better off than keep using a dirty filter to just pull it out and junk it in the trash. I've got a truck with over 325k miles and it didn't come with a filter and it still flows good. If it had a filter it might not go 36k before the filter clogs.

Never had one fail within 5 years.

edit: I take that back. I've had one fail but it was under 1 year old.
