Heading to Broken Bow with some close friends for a few days and I’m bringing the boat. Never been. What kind of fishing is it known for? Are there hazardous areas in which to proceed with caution? What can I look for to key in on to get some bites? TIA.

I have never fished there in the summer time. There are definitely some places to watch out for with your boat. Use your graph and run in the river channel when you are running on the north end. It is the most beautiful lake I have ever been on. Water clarity has always been amazing when I've been there. You could see bottom in 11 FOW.

Man we just back from there, it's a beautiful lake. Didn't bring the boat but there a tons of islands that surely would produce. I found some old posts where they said the fishing was good but they were older. We stayed at the lake front lodge. Tons of deer would be ready to eat right out side the balcony, morning and evening.

I'm going next weekend to stay with a buddy who lives there, I do know you can keep 37 crappie per person and there is no length limit.

On the lower end of the lake you have to watch for humps and your map should show those and as someone mentioned if you go north then stay in the river channel. Good bass lake (large mouth and small mouth), walleye and crappie. If you need a guide I recommend Bryce Archie http://bbowlake.homestead.com/index.html

If you have a map chip for North Texas, it should extend to southern OK. Lots of islands, submerged humps, but they are easy to find. Quite easy to run pretty much anywhere on the lake. Make sure to go below the dam and swim in the 65 degree water that is running out of it...lower mountain fork. Most refreshing thing you'll do all summer!

Broken Bow is a great lake. Like I always say; bring your Ned rig.

Where are you staying? There are some INCREDIBLE log cabins to rent up there around Hochatown.

Don't know the name of the mid lake coves we were in but it had tall granite looking cliffs all around and we were catching bass after bass throwing black/blue jigs and craw worms right at the base of the cliffs. The cove was north of the island in the middle of the lake and on the west side of the lake. Between the three of us prolly caught 75 bass in there. Good luck on your trip and like others have said a beautiful lake.

I own a cabin up there right off the North Dam road adjacent to the park, if anyone is interested in renting it let me know...

I have been a few times but never took the boat, even though I wanted to. I did take the kayak trip below the dam and it was pretty awesome.

When I stayed back in April, I was expecting an old cabin that I was going to have to knock spiderwebs off of everything. But it was quite the opposite. Everything in there was high quality. Ready to make a trip back this fall!

We went through Hidden Hills Cabins and since there was just two of us, we stayed in the Dakota Bear. INCREDIBLE PLACE! There are many other companies to rent from up there.
