Got the downriggers mounted last week. Decided to go out for a couple of hours to test them out. 2.5 hours 12 fish. Not to bad. Didn't hit any big fish but did get some solid fish up to 6lbs or so. Riley had a smile the whole time which all that counts.

Only for the next month or until it starts cooling down.

You killed them Brandon/ Were you dragging live baits or artificials?

One 10-pounder is better than ten 1-pounders; but 100 1-pounders is ok too!

Dragging 1oz jigs of various colors. Yellow/white and Chartreuse/white seemed to get the majority of fish.

Thanks. Downrigging isn't my favorite way of fishing but during the heat of the summer it can dang sure be productive. Also makes those last minute trips much easier. I'm a live bait guy but I usually catch some of my biggest fish trolling. Last yr had a 14, 17, and 18 . See what happens this yr. this was my first time out with riggers this summer

Thats a good catch. thumb I have a brand new set of downriggers sitting in the barn for the last four years that I have never mounted. I even went as far as building a couple of brackets that go down in the rod holders to use them. I may bust them out if I quit catching on live bait, but so far up here, Im still producing on bait and sometimes casting artificials. On second thought, I will probably just switch to Crappie if the Striper bite dies off for a while, I havent caught a mess of those in quite some time.

I pretty much just fish for Striper/hybrids with pickles thrown in at our lake at the ranch. My quest for a 20lb Texas lake Striper drives me. Someday it's gonna happen
