About five years ago I dediced I wanted to get back into fishing after a 20 years away from the sport. Not knowing if I was going to like it again, I purchased a Kayak. I hooked the camper up and put the kayak on the roof and headed to Lake Fork Marina.

If you have fished Fork before, every inch of the lake seems like a great spot to catch a monster and two days in I had not caught a guppy. I was beginning to think I made a mistake and should give up. I walked into Lake Fork Marina about 8 p.m. on a Friday night to see if anyone would give me some pointers.

I talked to several people who all said the fishing was tuff and they had no advice for me. After about ten minutes and total frustration a skinny guy with a scruffy beard walked up to me and said, let me show you something. We walked out side and he pointed at the lake and said do you see that clump of trees ( were he was pointing there was about four hundred trees) go there and drop shot and you will catch some fish.

The last time I fished the only thing you did with a worm was Texas rig. He could tell I had know idea what he was talking about. Eric said come on and put his boat back in the water after fishing all day with clients and took me fishing. We went out for about an hour and he taught me how to drop shot and we caught about ten fish in that time, one being five pounds plus.

I asked him when we were done if I could pay him and he explained he was a guide. He told me that I could repay him by referring people to him and if I ever wanted a guide call him. I have fished with Eric dozens of times since and could not tell you how many people I have referred to him.

I am sure that if he was not there I would have never fell back in love with fishing and now I go as many times as I can.

Nice timing, I been reading his posts on here so I messaged him about a hour ago as Im trying to schedule my boat at toledo glass and will have a week of down time to kill...

I have only ever hired one other guide in my life (earlier this year) and that was another Eric on table rock who does a weekly report via you tube that is so filled with information there is no way you would not need a guide there. I hired that Eric and told him I hired him to repay him for all the free advice, we spent the day fishing and he basically pre fished for his up coming tourney and we talked all day. I learned some and he learned some(ultrex use) so it was a good day for both.

Cool story! This story is not surprising to me. Has been several years, but have taken a guided trip w Eric. Would have taken more w him, but pursuing crappie has replaced the thrill of fishing for LMB. Eric is a hardworking, fun and knowledgeable guide that after fishing w him, you left w the sense that he is doing something he loves and is passionate about. He did not treat the trip as a job, but a privilege. Our trip that day was not the best by any means, as far as numbers and size. We caught fish and learned a lot! There was a professional televised tourney going on at the same time as our trip. I remember clearly my bro in law catching a4-5#er in front of Mike Iaconelli. He moved in to a spot we were already fishing. I have done numerous trips w several different guides within the past 10 years after moving to the metroplex. He and Mark Standridge,w 3 Nails Guide, are a cut above the rest in my opinion.

Competed against him for years out there. He's one of the best on the lake for sure.

"Little E" will get the job done... I'm glad he's not fishing tournaments out there anymore! Lost a bunch to him over the years... Great Guide and person

Kay and I have watched Eric grow from a fishing phenom as a teenager, to mature into a Daddy, a Husband, and one heck of a good guy.. Oh yeah, he can still fish a little, very proud of the man you've become my friend, well done... thumb

Super nice dude. I've only fished with him once and hunted with him a couple times. Always fun to be around for sure!

I catch more on drop shot than any other way. Actually my 2 biggest LMBs this year are both on drop shot so you can even get some size. I think the presentation is fabulous getting a worm a foot off he bottom just floating in the current. Hook set is easy too as you always hook the top of the mouth. I'd be leery of a 10+ which I haven't gotten but anything 6lb or less I feel pretty comfortable on 10lb fluro. Only negative is it's hard to cover as much area as you can with say a C-rig or crank. But the presentation can't be beat.
