Just curious, but I see boats with 4 or more depth finders mounted on them....why? I assume one is for mapping and one for fish finding?

Yes, but could also be for a number of other reasons.

I've never seen more than four, but three is not surprising. I had three on my last boat, albeit they were only Helix 7's. But, I liked having a Sonar and a SI on the console. And the split imaging on a single 7 made em too small to easily see.

I have the same dilemma on the Skeeter now. It has HDS7's. One front and one console. I need a used 9 or 10 to add to the console.

Hint hint. Come on guys.....I know y'all know someone that knows someone selling a gen1 or 2 cheap. Or wants to trade for a Steez rod or reel.

I have 4 12 inch... But Im also not trying to SAVE any money on my hobby...

Ill run side down sonar on left console while idling looking, map on right but then switch it to side when I need to mark and label my way points...

up front I have one I use for 360 or sonar down off the trolling motor.. the other I often use for the map mostly and down side sonar off the rear ducer if Im moving between spots to look around. I had a extra 12 inch non mega so thats why two up front, it really isnt needed. though its nice at times.

I fish NEW lakes and water all the time, this spring I fished the same lake for 4 weeks first time in years and didnt turn my units on at all since it was all bank beating. Most lakes around me Im fishing rock piles and rock reefs as well as brush piles since all the lakes are man made. 360 is priceless for that.

Anything more than two just confuses the issue for me personally. I understand wanting two on the console for mapping and eventually when I upgrade I want a big enough console unit that I can split the screen.

As far as two on the front...I know some guys who like to have down imaging on one and then side imaging on the other or something like that. I have stuck to down imaging as all the other stuff would give me too much information at one time. I feel that I can fish better and more thoroughly without it.

As I said that's just me I know a lot of people can take all the new technologies and really use them to their advantage so if you can by all means do it. This is how I feel now but who knows as I'm around it more I might be persuaded.

How are you guys that use 3-4 units powering them?

I have a Duracell 31AGM for cranking and electronics and 10 gauge wire throughout. If the Solix 15, 12 and 360 are left on at full brightness, cranking the engine by the mid afternoon will drop the amp supply to the units enough to cause them to shut off and restart. The engine doesn't seem to mind, but the Solix's are very sensitive to amp drops. I'd like to connect two 31AGM's in parallel but I don't currently have the room to pull that off.

To the original question: As with rods, reels, lures, shallow water anchors, automatic trolling motors, boats and sonar units, if you have the money to blow, it's just nice to have the biggest and baddest available.

I ALWAYS sleep my rear units now when I go to the bow. I have a intimidator agm group 31 starting battery. (been told by many this is the BEST battery out there hands down @78 lbs it better be good) Starting my motor will turn off one unit on my console if I get to a low voltage, but I only got to that one time when Ive just left the rear units on and I think it was after 7 maybe 8 hours of tm fishing only. Ive considered adding a lithium battery for starting only, but it really hasnt been a issue except the one time for me. I do have a small jump box I carry just in case. I usually am fishing no wake lakes so not much chance at re charging on the lake.

If you see me with 4 I stole 2 of'em. Four sonars and 30 rod and reels is a little overkill in my book but then I am a conservative through and through.

Boat I just bought had three. I took it down to two. It was pretty hard to multitask and ran down the batteries fast.

That's what I have to do as well. Glad it's not just me then.

Be honest. If the pros had 3 12" at the console, 2 12" at the bow, and a 16" halfway between, there would be some guys on here ..... well you know.

I was reading a fishing article by someone that had two 12 inch units up front and two 12 inch units at the console and said that he never fished deeper than 10 foot of water. So why would you need four 12 inch graphs since you are basically running the bank fishing.

What motor you running? The Duracell is an awesome trolling motor battery but lacks cca for most big motors. Add in all accessories and you'll definitely lack cca at the end of the day. We went to the exide mega cycle AGM 31. No issues running a 250 etec 2 12 helix, 1198, 2 poles and pumps all day. After it bites the dust it'll be the big Odyssey next for cranking
