It has happened occasionally, but only when I’m not drifting “evenly” if that makes sense, if the boat is turning any this may happen -
When it does I will reduce the number of rods I’m drifting and and spread them out more, that usually fixes things -
Just gotta give them more space -

What has happed to you does not define who you are-

HOW you react to what happens to you DOES!

I drift 90% of the time even in winter. I have a 19ft deep v aluminum lowe.
I will drift out the side if the wind is just right and I don't have to use the trolling motor
to do a controlled drift. Another reason I won't drift out the side is wave
size. IMO when drifting I want a smooth "pull". If the waves have the boat
rocking too much coming from the side the bait seems to "jump" and have a
chance to tangle. If so I will drift out of the back. In the same waves, it
gives a smother pull for the bait. I drift 8 rods out the back staggering
each bait out to reduce tangling and can drift 10 out the side.

I use 1 or 2 54" socks depending on wind speed. In winter time with water
from 40-65 degrees, I will keep my speed between .1-.3mph. Temps over 65degrees
I will take it up to .5-.8 and try to tweak where I need to if they are wanting a quicker or slower bait.

When drifting out of the side I have a sock tied to a cleat in the front and back.
If only 1 sock is needed it will be tied directly in the middle.

When drifting out of the back with 2 socks they will be tied on each back cleat.
And with 1 sock I have a rope that runs from cleat to cleat going across the back of my boat and I will snap the sock on to it.

If there is next to zero wind I will use 1 sock out of the back and control speed with my TM.
I use a variety of homemade drift sinkers to try and create a smooth "pull"
