Me and the Family had a successful adventure to Alaska fishing in the Wood Tikchik State Park and the Togiak National Wildlife Refuge. There are no roads once you get to the interior of the parks, all transportation is done by float plane or boat. The places fished are remote and feel like you could be on the Edge of the Earth. We were there the 2nd week of July. Spent 5 days fly fishing, swinging mice and streamers for the usual suspects and 1 day on the Togiak back trolling quickfish for Kings. The weather this year was cold. Three days our high's were in the upper 40's, three days in the 50's and one brilliant day in the 60's. Rain was a constant. All was welcomed with a bring it on attitude. It was high water fishing in the rivers. There were record numbers of Sockeye Salmon up the Nushagak River, breaking the records that were set just a year ago in 2017. Thats good news for full time residents like Trout, Grayling and Char that rely on salmon to survive and good news for people like me chasing after them. Hope you enjoy the pictures. Congrats, Fitz!! Incredible pics and great memories for you and the family!
(For those of you who have never experienced North country fishing, I would urge you to get it on your bucket list. Alaska is a fantastic adventure and definitely on my to do again list but with the Canadian dollar down 25% to the US dollar, trips to the provinces are very achievable... even on a tight budget.)
