Driving in from west Texas this afternoon, the temp. in my truck was reading 112 at 5:45 when I hit the west side of Ft. Worth. I decided the best way to cool off might be on the boat on Lewisville. I went by the house and changed. Picked up the boat at the storage and made the lake right at 7:00. Decided to run a few brush piles and maybe some timber, but mostly just unwind on the lake.
Hit the first pile in 18' of water at 7:05. Water was 92 Degrees and I saw a couple of fish on it. 15 minutes latter and I had nothing. Moved to next pile. Saw some bait on it but, no fish. Hit it for about 10 minutes and another goose egg.
Its now about 7:45 and I decide to run to an old brush pile I added new timber to this past winter. I eased up on it with the trolling motor and saw this.
Lots of bait and fish!
Dropped a white and chartreuse Bonehead stump bug and bang. A nice 11" fish. Dropped it again and again and again and nothing. OK. Lets down size. dropped a tiny Sour Grape Crazy Angler and up comes another nice keeper paper mouth. Continue working it and proceed to catch one about every few drops.
After about 30 minute, the bite slows and I put on a larger Sour Grape Crazy Angler and start working the older outlying brush. Continued to catch fish until I shut it down at 8:52 and headed to the ramp.
ended up catching 18 with only two dinks and the rest all solid keepers.
it was 100 degrees when I got back in the truck. I guess I didn't cool off much, but I did de-stress from the road.
