Took these Monday on Whitney. Caught a few stripers but just not sure if some of these marks aren't catfish.

Onix or Solix? Which software version are you using. I�m still on 3.0, and cannot select the frequency you have displayed. Great pics too

Those are some beautiful pics! I am also pretty sure you are looking at stripers as well. I'm guessing you are asking because you were not catching many as you said "caught a few stripers"?

For me the best way to tell is to anchor. Catfish are slow and present long returns, striper swim faster and present a shorter arc. Looks like some bait balls mixed in there also.

You have a combination of fish there even arches which resemble white bass arches and catfish as well. Catfish present with an elevated arch. The majority of color is toward one end of the arch as the catfish's head is wide and hard and returns the sonar ping faster than the thinner and softer tail. This results in the "cobra" arch.

The evenly balanced arches that have the majority of color in the middle are most likely white bass, or a fish with a similar body shape.

This is actually an Onix and solix networked together with the latest 3.23 software. The pics are from my onix though. I am using the Low Q mega 2d/di transducer that is compatible with the solix but it will network to the onix just cant get the same results plugging directly to the onix. It is geared to the chirp setup. I have the transom mount version as their is also a trolling motor puck. I am really liking it so far. It will only chirp the 200khz range, actually it is 140-240 khz. This will be the same transducer that minn kota will putting in the new trolling motors.

I am just gonna assume that these stripers were done feeding and just staying close the bait ball for when they got hungry again. I was dragging shad through them but they just weren't active

thank you.... that does makes sense considering I caught a few small stripers on the smaller threadfin I was dropping down. They didn't touch the large live gizzard a was dropping down deeper.

I pulled one of your images to highlight it. In the black circle we have a small schoolie fish, most likely as small white bass. They very frequently will feed with undersized stripers and white bass schools. In the blue circle, you have what could be either a white bass, small striper or even a legal striper. The densest color is in the middle of the arch. The arch is well balanced in shape and of a fair length. In the green circle we have a catfish. It has an elevated cobra arch. The color is in one end indicating a harder return and the arch is of a good size indicating a quality catfish with a good density. On the left side of the image we see a school that is packed tight and has no negative space (no white space) between the arches indicating that the school is indeed tightly packed. That is unusual for catfish to pack that tightly suggesting it is most likely Temperate Bass (white bass, hybrids, or stripers). Fish frequently stage themselves. Small schoolies toward the top, then white bass, next hybrids and stripers, and on the bottom catfish and frequently yellow bass. This hierarchy is the feeding order. Top two tiers are aggressive feeders, hybrids and strips are also aggressive feeders but often remain slightly lower in the water column and catfish eat the injured bait that falls to the bottom.

Sometimes when that happens. I take a gizzard shad, scrape and fillet him trying to leave as
many scales and blood on it you can. Then cut you a chunk and drop it to the bottom. Nice shots
anyhow.
