Obviously lots of guys on here have no problem driving their boat. I debated with myself on posting this. Its aimed to help guys that may not understand why their boat porpoises and that its really controlled by driver input.

I know the ribbing and trolling that goes on between brands. Thats all fun but this is just to help anyone that might need it. Maybe a guy Is a first time boat owner or has had one for a while and thinks he just has to live with it.

In the first video, I take the boat from still to high speed and back down to off plane. Im holding my phone with one hand and other than a slight course adjustment I dont have to touch the steering wheel. It shows acceleration and It also shows that if you trim down before letting out of the throttle you can come completely off plane and never have the boat bounce. Lastly I yank the kill switch to show that the sponsons help eliminate taking a wall of water over the back deck.

In the second video I make the boat porpoise and explain why it does it. I also took a minute and enlarged the speed on the Lowrance so you can see it better.

You just demonstrated what most of us Skeeter owners were saying in the other thread. When at low speeds with a Skeeter, trim her all the way down, and it wont porpoise, its that simple.

Good info.

It amazes me that when someone buys a bass rig nobody from the dealership goes out with them to show them how to properly operate their boat. Should be mandatory.

Great video KD. Shows exactly what guys that have run skeeters a long time have been saying.

I always thought trimming was standard procedure. Great video explanation.

I think most guys are talking about holding 30 or 35.

Exactly. If you have the slightest trim at that speed, it will do it if your Jack Plate is positioned for high-end speed. That's the main reason why so many Skeeters are equipped with hydraulic jack plates. It allows you to plane and cruise at lower speeds (below 40ish). It also allows you to adjust for conditions.

KD did demonstrate something I don't do, and I do get a wash from time to time, I am not always good at pulling the trim ALL the way down when coming off plane, so I feather my throttle a little. Not nearly as much as my Triton, but I do. If I planned my coming to an idle better, I would bring the trim down.

Pull that kill switch with her trimmed up, a full load in the gas tanks (prior to 2017 when there were two and further back, yes, you will take some wash. Not nearly as much as without the sponsons, but it will wash! In my opinion, the main reason for them is Skeeter wanted that full back deck appearance (no splash well), so they had to do something to make it work.

We pulled kill switches with the other tank set also. We would be at full speed and hit the trim switch to lower. As its lowering you pull the switch but dont let off the trim switch. So as the boat is coming off plane the back of the boat is coming up. Just as with porpoising I can make it do it, or I can avoid it. It still comes down to driver input. The simple solution most do is just goose the gas

Pulling the kill switch is just so folks know there is no throttle used to keep the back deck dry.

You need to know how to drive 'em if you're gonna own 'em.......good video, KD. I still miss the days that you were tooling around in your bass busters, haha.

Heck yeah I miss those days. They got me through some hard times between boats. Divorce can be a bitch.

Sadly I outgrew them. One look at the capacity plate proves it! . roflmao

I concur. It is laughable that that many people are out there bouncing their boats around and think it's the boats fault!

I wouldn't be against needing a license to operate a boat not too dissimilar to that of a drivers license. It would be a pain in the butt, but it would make our lakes safer...IMO
