The mention of ketchup on a burger destroyed any cred you might have had.

Southerners for the most part like mustard. Some like ketchup though so I included it. Not sure about Yankees. Ill have to defer to Don Scagnetti on that. To me ketchup on a burger almost turns it into meatloaf.

My biggest thing is toasted bun and no pickles. That taste combination just ruins the meat. Pickles are good as a stand-alone side only. There is no complimenting a taste with pickled anything, it overpowers the original taste. Onions need to be grilled or sauted if added to a burger or the texture is ruined.

Never considered the lettuce on bottom as a grease barrier. I am a simpleton though.

I sell 1000s of burgers every week, 99 percent of time when one I made as you suggest it's for a small child. But you be you.

Cruddy fast food type burgers need that garbage. Good meat should stand alone. Sometimes it's good to try different types of stuff on burgers, and it can be good...most places like Whataburger are the equivalent of well done steak...might as well roll it around in fancy ketchup so you'll have something to taste.

What's your place called?

There is such a thing as complimenting a burgers taste with toppings. As long as you dont go with anything overpowering like pickles, horseradish, bbq sauce, etc. those are the burgers that cant standalone. I prefer no tomato, but tomatoes arent overpowering so theyre allowed. Same with lettuce, cheese, mustard, grilled onions. Lettuce and cheese need to be shredded though. A giant piece of leaf lettuce is just stupid. Its too thin to add any taste to one particular bite vs shredded, and leaf lettuce will get slimy from the grease and cheese and is kinda just gross. Same with shredded cheese, way more taste in a given bite then a cheese slice that has melted down to a 1/2 millimeter thick.

BTW, Wawis place isnt fast food. He actually has good food there. You should give it a try.

Never once have I ever referred to the "hamburger stuff that I like and add" as a "SALAD."

I might substitute the word "toppings" for the word "stuff," evening if I occasionally put the "toppings" on the "bottom."

...wisdom--don't call it "salad"

This is a burger. It's ground meat. It's ground up because it is tough and gristly and does not have enough flavor to stand on its own. If you are ordering a burger because you want the taste of good quality beef, then you are ordering wrong.

Now if you are grandpa75672 and you have to order your steaks ground up and grilled because your teeth don't work anymore... well then I guess I can see your point.

At ten years old, I knew how to make a hamburger. chef

Mom would tell the story of on the way to the 1967 Worlds Fair and getting close to crossing over into Canada, we stopped at a roadside dinner. Dad made a remark about this was the last U.S, meal for a while.

Mom said I ordered enchiladas, wait staff asked what is that. loco So I ordered a hamburger. Everybody knows how to make hamburgers I thought.food

It came out with no vegetables/toppings/salad on it. bang Mom said I won't eat it until I got lettuce, tomato and pickles on it (which added to the cost).

Back on the road, Mom said I asked why the people who ran a dinner didn't know anything about fixing food.noidea

See, I know about making hamburgers.

Just put the vegs on it or not and eat the thing. wife
