Hey guys! Finding Shad has been tough lately and was wondering what those of you who use or troll lures use? Slabs just are not consistent but I do see people trolling and catching them on here. I just hate driving all the way down there and not being able to catch bait. I need some alternatives. Thanks for the insight.

I cant help you with bait on Whitney but I know bait is tough on Pk this year also. Umbrella rigs are working well though.

Also welcome to Tff!

We have been doing pretty good chasing the top water bite lately with pencil poppers and badonk a donks. 7" striper snipers chartruse on white jig heads always work on umbrellas. fat free shad deep crankbaits and that barenaked thing that timmy changa uses catches stripers on whitney.

Brett: if you can't get shad Perch are working very well at PK. I find I can get a dozen or so pretty quick at any boat ramp. You can use a throw net or just catch them with a small hook and worms. You wont need as many perch. Perch are so tough they seldom die in a minnow bucket and never in a bait tank. Plus many times they survive the striper attack and you can fish with them twice.

Caught this fish yesterday using Perch for bait. I've gotten some limits on PK doing that as well. Y'all are just down river so I doubt things are much different at Whitney.

John 21:3 Simon Peter saith unto them, I go a fishing. They say unto him, We also go with thee.
