I started fishing Lake LBJ around 330pm and I thought I was going to tear them up.It had rained earlier this morning and had been having isolated showers the last couple days so the water was slightly more stained than usual. There was some weather stalled out in the east and it didnt even break 90 today, It was a dark cloudy and wind was blowing 15-20MPH out of SSE. Well turned out to be the worst day Ive had all year. Keep in mind I had a 14lbs bag on Friday, midday, fished from 10-3 there were tons of boaters and caught all my fish relatively shallow. So it only makes sense that it was gonna be a productive day (but then again we are talking about bass). Anyway I started at the dam saw some baitfish and threw a buzzbait, jig, trap, and crankbait in the grass and on riprap. I ended up with only one nice 3-4 lber i lost on a buzzbait right at the boat. Then, I moved to the jetty and continued with a buzzbait, CB, SB, senko, and a jig... Nothing not even a clue. moved to one of my favorite coves on the north side of lake and fished main lake to halfway in on deeper docks in 3-20FOW and the water temp drop from 89 to 84 degrees and had nothing not even a bite even saw some bait pushing into a little pocket. I moved and fished some deeper water on a mainlake bluff and some humps threw DD CB, dropshot, Crig, pop r, fluke, and a jig. I finally caught one on a granite hump in 7-10fow on a DD CB chart/blk nice solid 2.5lber. Other than that i had a short strike bass swell on a pop r, I was off the water 8:15. Any clues you guys? Anyone fish today and have similar luck, or much better luck? I can usually figure them out somewhat but today I left with my hands in the air. However It was the most stained Ive seen this lake in a long time and those fish are used to pretty clear water but there still was 1-2.5 ft clarity, do you guys think it could be that? Or perhaps I've been getting a little spoiled and sometimes in the summer the just don't like to bite? Thank you guys for any input.

Sounds like my entire week last week on LBJ. I caught a few but dang sure didn't get them figured out. I'm still learning the lake.

i have a place on LBJ and it has been real tough the last couple of weeks. Square bills and 10" worms are about the only baits working at all for me.

Just learning it myself. Fished 3 half days so far. Averaging 5-6 fish, 2.5-3 lbs. Spent a couple of hours Sunday just driving and checking areas. I'm liking it! Better than Travis where I live.l

That's why it's fishing not catching sometimes. Typical summer deal

That was a great report on what is going on there. Thanks for sharing. It will be very helpful to others trying to figure them out. Stained water is usually surface water. The deeper water table in parts of the lake will be stained on top but not on the deeper spots in that area. If the water has risen a couple of feet; I will go even shallower on all lakes. If not I will fish the 20 ft. contour out and around the shallow areas that have been productive days before the rains.

Hey thanks for the input guys. I am an extremely competitive angler and I usually won't get off a lake until I at least get a couple in the boat, unless I absolutely have to leave. Its just crazy when you catch them on a clear sky 100 degree day in the middle of the day and then get whipped under changing weather conditions and much cooler in the summer. I guess this time of year you gotta find them when they are biting for those short windows of time. Hey thanks Donald for that refreshment, I feel I could have managed my time where I was fishing in the water column better.

Well since I'm new to the area and learning all these new lakes, if any of you guys want a back seater or want to go with me hit me up with a pm on here. I live in Jonestown about 40 minutes from LBJ. I'd love to learn it at a quicker pace than what I've been on. And if you ever need help with Ray Roberts, Fork, Joe Pool or any of the lakes within a couple of hours of DFW let me know. I've been on most of them.

I just moved to Austin area and am going to start fishing LBJ.
Are there any hazards to watch out for? How far up river before it gets sketchy? Thanks!

ya there are some shallow areas just watch out downlake (mainlake) there are some buoys marking the hazards just stay in the middle/channel as best as possible and watch your graph it's not that bad. Up the colorado arm there are a couple hazard areas marked with buoys and it starts to get shallow up past the granite dome rock marked with buoys, on the left side going upriver. Not really sure about the Llano arm.

Was running up one arm of LBJ one day in a brand new Bullet and decided to open her up.
Flying down the river at 85+ and I noticed something in the water as I passed by, then I notice another & another.

I slow down as I come up on a sign that says something about water hazards.

Almost killed myself. roflmao
