I have started having problems with the buddy bearings coming loose from the hubs. I lost one about a month ago and replaced it but I have started paying attention to them and checking to make sure they are hammered all the way in. I have noticed that they tend to vibrate loose so I hammer them back in but I dont understand why this is happening.
Anyone else come across this?

Yes I have. I bought a full set of chrome kodiak red eyes and havent had any more trouble since I put them on. I had a couple of black ones and the cheaper buddy bearings and they would occasionally push out. I had to check them constantly during a trip or one would be gone by the time I got home. No problems with the chrome kodiak red eyes in several months

I had one come off this weekend, hope it went cleanly into the ditch. I will check them from now on every time if adding lubrication. The trailer buddy has been in place over 2 years with no prolems.

I got in my head several years ago that the buddy bearings would eliminate all my problems with trailer bearings. I have discovered they are like everything else in that they need checked occasionally and maintenance done. I have oil bath hubs on my bigger trailer and even they need oil levels checked and topped off at times. The seals will leak occasionally also. The kodiak red eye is the least trouble of the brands of buddy bearings. Those type of caps just make it easier for me to lube my trailer bearings versus the other styles made for boat trailer hubs. The cheaper brand with the metal plate and visible spring allow water to get in the hub causing all kind of problems. I get complacent about it at times and I know that will bite my arse sooner or later.

I had one side that kept blowing off.
the fix was that the hub was loose on the bearings.
when trailer swayed, the full hub caused the buddy to be forced off.
adjusted bearings and all is good
