I sell a lot of swing heads, Shaky Head ETC... on the TFF (Thank you all and to TFF)
This being said I want to get some input on pricing. I get guys who don't question my prices or they try to bargain prices. Which I understand we all spend a lot of chasing these fish around and anything saved is a good thing.
To add to it, the little guy like me that makes tackle in his garage VS the big companies. Id rather buy from guys like me if they make a product I like or they custom make a color I like or style the big companies don't make in a bait I like.

So here the deal I get asked or bargain with these prices. I get people saying they want to order some swing head jig heads. they see my prices and they reply back with $1 per bait it to high prices. They want to be around .70 cent to .80 per bait.

How much do you guys think swing heads or the wobble head bait or worth per bait? or how much you willing to pay. keep in mind this bait is good quality. Good hook and the powder coat holds up.

Swing head prices

prices: this is $1 per bait not counting $5 shipping
10 baits - $10
20 baits - $20
30 baits - $30
40 baits - $40
50 baits - $50

VS

prices: plus $5 shipping
12 baits - $10
24 baits - $20
36 baits - $30
48 baits - $40
60 baits - $50

does either one of these seem high ?

Shaky head with good quality 5/0 VMC hook with screw lock

prices: PLUS $5 shipping
13 baits - $10
26 baits - $20
39 baits - $30
52 baits - $40
64 baits - $50

does this seem high?

last thing

Say a guy want 200 Swing heads, at some bulk my prices have to change. or I would loose money.
For every 10 bought I jump up 2 free or 3 free depending on the bait.

swing head for buying 50 baits you get 10 free for 60 total for $50
so 100 baits you get get 20 free. so a guy order 200 that 240 baits. that's roughly $40 lost. on the 40 free baits

So afterso after 50 bait order I starte doing prices different.
so 100 baits $100 shipped
200 baits $200 shipped and I cover shipping.
that would work that way on 100 plus bait orders

So this all being said Hope I didn't confuse anyone. On bulk order of 100 or more bait does that seem high?
$100 for 100 or $200 for 200 and I cover shipping?
95% of guy jump right on the deal ther other 5% try and bargain with me. I always try and stay firm on prices. but still try and make a deal and met in the middle. I feel my prices are cheap enough they are still saving money. they aren't spending that $5-$8 per two swing heads.

Whats your guys take on pricing? My buddies tell that there will always be guys trying jew you down on prices regaurdless if your cheap anyways.

Id rather buy from a guy like me than and spend a dollar per or .80 cent per compared to the big box stores.
just like to hear what you all think on prices and then the bulk orders like 100 or 200 For $100or $200 with free shipping.

Sorry for the rambling ! I'm not the best writer either. lol

Your prices seem good to me. Like you said, most are $2 or more per bait.

I would keep it simple -- $1 per bait, buy 10 or more and get 1 free per every 10 up to 100. Any amount over 100 you only get free shipping.

Your prices are fine. The same people who are complaining will pay more at the store for the same baits. The anonymity of the internet gives people the courage to haggle.

Free market works. If you offer quality merchandise or services at reasonable prices you will thrive. The hagglers are everywhere

Normally price of an item is represented by 3 variables 1) all that goes in to maintain company 2) people in the company 3) product.

If you want to bring products to the market place where people RESPECT and Highly value what you are offering, then it takes investment of resources in 1,2 and 3. There is NO WAY aroundit. Unfortunately some tackle builders come in the market place to be the cheapest and don’t value 1 and 2 or claim too but fail. Over the years I have seen these people come and go.

There are builders like yourself I assume who invest in all 3. There is a lot that goes into producing an item (money tied up w/ inventory, equipment, supplies, time required to buy supplies, time to produce, work space to maintain, energy cost to maintain work space area, time required to keep work space organized and clean, cost of unsold stock sitting around, time invested to have booth at show, time required for texts/phone calls to answer questions and fulfill orders, time to box up and ship, ..etc etc etc. Who gets this at zero cost?

So, in the end, build price on what you believe is fair to the audience that YOU WANT as customers, which normally respect all 3 variables and willing to pay for all 3. Many people today, due to use of internet zero in on price per unit and will use only price to beat you. World is flooded with price gougers. They want quality products, rapid service, low cost shipping and all at a low price. Yes, as a small business owner you can survive doing business with them but it will come at YOUR expense. People end up losing money and not even feel it in the beginning. These type sellers eventually feel the hit of losing money and go away. I’ve seen many here on TFF come and go. Their contribution to all this was nothing but create price havoc in the market place. And all because they were trying to please the price beaters and the quality seekers at the same time. There are some very reputable people here on TFF that have build a good reputation for themselves and/or company. It didn’t come over night. They are not the cheapest but yet they are not the most expensive. They have settled on a price that works for them and their target audience. It takes time and feedback, but feedback from people you want as customers, not the price gougers. Good $elliing to you...

I agree, sounds like you have a solid deal aready. If you sold them for $0.01 a peice someone would still try to haggle you down.

Your prices are fine, but everyone wants to feel like they got a deal and or beat someone up on price to save a penny. I make some of my own lures as well and it can be a decent amount of work.

One thing you have to understand: You will never have 100% of the market share. Knowing that in advance, focus on making a good product and selling them at a price you are comfortable with. You won't get rich peddling your home made lures but you do have a right to ignore tire kickers.

Rather than trying to accommodate tire kickers that aren't going to buy unless you are giving the [censored] away, I would leave my advertised prices as is and put an "email me for bulk discount" note on your site and have some bulk purchasing information ready to send out.

Michael makes some awesome baits for sure. I bought about 50 swing heads and 50 swimbait heads recently and they're as good as any. I know you're not going to find these baits at any store for that price so I wouldn't even question it. Some people just try to haggle down on every transaction they are involved in.

Then you have some people paying $6 for a 2 pack for the Gene Larew hardheads. No way I'm paying that much as much of those things as I lose lol.

I bought a CNC machine to do a little side business. People ask you to make something for them and they don't know how much the raw material costs, how much time in design, prep, sanding, etc. They balk at your price and I tried to appease them. In the end I was paying out of my pocket to do a job for them. After crunching the numbers I decided what was a fair price to ask to make a modest profit. If they did not want to pay my price, they were free to spend thousads to buy their own machine, materials and training to make their own part.

You have to just do the same. Figure out what you have to make and stick with it. If someone else had a better deal out there they probably wouldn't be coming to you in the first place. It isn't fair to you that maybe a small group of guys pool their money to order a few hundred at one time and you lose money because of that. If they were a business that wanted wholesale and could guarantee you a minimum order of several hundred per delivery with a guarantee of thousands purchased then that would be a different story.

If you were fair in your prices to begin with and make a quality product, business will come. The ones asking for a discount will probably still order anyway. Like they say, "It doesn't hurt to ask."
