I have seen a post in here listed "LAVON FYI" but I haven't seen a lot of updates coming through that post. So I decided that it wouldn't be a bad idea to start a new thread that everyone can post their latest updates regarding Lavon Lake in. I'll also transfer over a previous comment I made on another post in order to start the "fun".

I look forward to seeing your reports, updates and pictures *if any*! I'll try to post some when I can!

THIS IS MY COMMENT FROM ANOTHER POST; REPORT FOR SUNDAY 06/24/2018 FISHING TRIP

Figured I would help with a more recent update.

**THIS UPDATE IS OUR MOST RECENT EXPERIENCE**
Other tactics show to be working as well, but I feel the info provided will be more helpful than just saying "throw whatever, there's fish in there somewhere!"

6-24-18 *Sunday

*LARGEMOUTH BLACK BASS*

Lavon is about a foot and a half low. The water is definitely warming up. I've been seeing average temperatures ranging between 82 to 86 degrees from main lake and in the coves. Stained water, working with approximately 2-3ft visibility. Greenish tint.

Early morning - good bites on fast top waters.
Later bites require a bit of patience, working Texas rigged plastics. Dark colors seem to be a favorite right now.

Most (if not all) boat ramps are open. Collin Park and East Fork *Main Lake and Marina* are definitely open -- as that's where we've been launching from.

FISHING REPORT: SUNDAY 07/01/2018

*SAND BASS*

We started out a short day of fishing, hitting the water at 0545 out of East Fork. Average water temperature was 82*, approx. 1.5' low. Water is still stained, becoming more of the well recognized brown tint. Light overcast with the Wind blowing about 15mph straight from the south, which made fishing our favorite spots a little more challenging than we like.

We did find multiple, massive schools of small sandy's and bar fish at the west end of the dam. It made the morning go by really quick and had my young nephew smiling from ear to ear. When the bite died off, it really died off. We gave up on the spot and moved to fishing for Largemouth's but couldn't get on them. Seems everyone had a difficult day from what I've seen and heard from other fisherman. We ran the Northwest end of the East fork with not a single bite!

We're hoping to have more Largemouth activity this Sunday.

Sand bass and bar fish were extremely productive on slab spoons *CC's* and were alternating between schooling on the top and being suspended, working around ~15ft. Shallower production only lasted for about 5-10mins before they went deep.

Finally got to sneak out to the lake yesterday evening.

Tuesday evening fishin trip!
*6:15pm-9:00pm*

Launched from the power plant at about 6:15PM - There was a small breeze, just enough to make it a nice trip on the water. Water temperature was reading a solid 89* no matter where we went-- the water is definitely clearing up- visibility around 3ft. Unfortunately we weren't able to get the Largemouth bass to bite but we did find a small school of sand bass on the south west side of the railroad bridge.. nothing extravagant but it gave us a little entertainment for a while.

After the sandy's died down, we moved to our wooded 'honey-hole' and tried to run some jigs/craws around the timber -- still no luck! Although my wife did manage to pull up a rather nice white crappie on a CC Spoon, believe it or not!

We did talk to a few other anglers and it seemed that everyone was struggling to produce many catches, so at least we weren't the only ones!

I'm still wanting to know how all these guys keep pulling up 7, 8 and 9 pound black bass out of a lake that I've fished my entire life! The best largemouth I've landed from Lavon was just shy of 6lbs. I know that's nothing to sneeze at, especially considering my personal best on any lake is only a mere 7lb 66oz from the famous Lake Fork, but it still frustrates me since I've never turned any real jaw-dropping numbers from my HOME LAKE... I have to be doing something wrong. bang

Fished Lake Lavon tonight 5-9 caught several crappie to 13 inches, sand bass and catfish 2-3lb range on minnows.
Guessing 15-18 feet of water bite was about 1 - 3 feet off the bottom.

Catfish had a really light bite, just noticed the line starting to move to the side.

I started out from East Fork about 6:20am today, wind was light from the NE.
Went to glass house, did not see anything moved around and stopped at Little Ridge point, there were a few small schools popping shad so I turned on my BOBO Thumper, Wow, it was on. I was catching 1 or 2 magnums at a time for the next 30 minutes in 22ft water, at times I couldn't get below 5' without something getting hooked.
I caught 42 total only kept 10 decided I had enough so left them biting and started looking for crappie.
Every bush in 14-18 ft. had some crappie, I would catch about 6 at each stop but only 1 or 2 would be 11 inches or larger, many were around 10" but I do not keep those, kept 11. The best bite was on 1/8 oz. white horse head jig heads with a spinner and black and chartreuse tube jigs 1.5".
On the way back around 11am I stopped at Little Ridge point, I could see fish on bottom in 22', I turned on the Thumper they came up and it was on again, most were small sandies or yellow bass, final count for the day 117 caught with most being released.

Fished Lake Lavon last night using a white road runner maribou jig ~1/8 oz in 14 feet of water about 1-2 foot off the bottom.
Caught a couple of crappie 10-12 inches and several channel cats 2-4 lbs.
Also used a lake fork baby shad in silver on 1/8 oz jig head. Crappie liked this better, fewer cats.
Also had a pole out with shad on it and caught a couple of the larger catfish on it though not as many as with the road runner.

Back at lavon today.
Many boats at the ramp today which usually has few folks.
Dam crowded with boats.
We caught some white bass trolling.
Since wanted to get on the water, did not wait for VP to open so could get minnows.
Caught several shad quickly at the boat ramp.
Tried jigs and shad catching just a few crappies, no keepers
Caught a couple catfish on jugline with shad ~16 inches
Lots of fish on fish finder, just could not figure out how to hook into them today.

Fished the stumps/trees off Mallard Park this evening 7 - 9 with small minnows for crappie and large minnows and shrimp for catfish.

Lots of fish showing up on fish finder.
Not a single bite.
Got tangled up in a couple of trot lines.

Fished out of Avalon park south tonight.
Trolled sabiki rig with various color amribou rooster tails, large rooster at bottom and a storm shad tied off it.
Other poll had 2 hooks for catfish, one with shad, other with shad or shrimp.
Would stop when come over schools of fish and jig the sabiki rig. Also ensure catfish baits 1-2 foot off bottom.
No bites.

Found spot with lots of fish by dam. Same setup.
one light bite on sabiki rig.
Something took line out on my clicker but nothing there when I set the hook.

Left catfish baits out just raised them so top one about 1 foot under water since fishing along dam and "cove" between island(when water higher) and dam. One large comotion near the catfish baits, did not even pull line from clicker or come back for bait.
Threw chatter bait pretty close to rip rap along dam and in shallows and along shore.
No bites on the chatter bait.

Will be fishing around island off clear lake park on lavon on saturday late afternoon into night. I will be in read coosa hd if want to stop by.

Good point is water was flat, light wind, very pleasant out and no other boats on the water.
Would still be out there if didn't not have to get up and go into work tomorrow.

Fished the sticks in the small cove just beyond the boat ramp catching a few small white bass.
Was trying to catch some perch but never found any.
Spent too long in the cove so did not do much fishing around the island since did not start out towards island till after 8PM.
Saw several schools of fish in around 18-20 ft of water around island.
Another beautiful might with full moon over a glassy smooth lake.
Tried a diver on my fly rod while coming back working shore of island and any tress sticking up.
Diver makes a large blurp when pull it and it goes a little underwater releasing lots of air bubbles trapped in deer hair.
Nothing tried to hit it.
Since first time to clear lake park, will chalk this trip up to an exploration trip.

Fished the railroad bridge tonight for a bit.
Arrived just as someone was leaving it.
After paddling from Lavonia south and having never been there before decided to fish it.
Caught 2 cats 2-3 pounds on shad. Liked having multiple small dead shad on one hook.
No bites on crappie jigs, rooster tails or lake fork shad,
Put out 2 juglines along riprap and one had a catfish at some point as I had to hunt for it in the dark and had slime all over line.
Saw 2 otters swimming in the lake.
Lots of gar. Think I brought my paddle down on one which was quite exciting and as the kayak would come close to others the water would explode.
Tried fishing along riprap and shore with chatter bait, no bites.

Actually I saw 2 river otters swimming.
Had previously seen on the boat ramp and nearby rip rap at Lavonia South.

Fished Mallard Park tonight.
Lots of good shad near the boat ramp.
Tried a bit of everything: Jugs with shad, chatter bait, diver, rooster tails, storm minnows,
Road Runners, jigs.
I got 1 bite and brought in a small crappie.
I only saw a coupe of fish at a time on my fish finder tonight, not the large schools like last week.
Worked tmainly east of boat ramp down to where cove starts to narrowthen drifted back through stumps and trees.
Fortunately avoided the trot lines tonight.

Fished down by the dam on Saturday morning.
Caught a couple of large mouth bass on a diver in the shallows with my fly rod.
Lots of bait fish up in the shallows.
Caught a couple of small crappie on jigs.
Caught a few white bass on rooster tail and a couple on crankbaits out while paddling to/from dam.
Appeared that those fishing for minnow were catching more crappie.
Tried shrimp and cut up shad on a couple of jugs and another rod, no bites.
Most of the crappie action stopped by about 10:00AM
Fish Finder showed larger schools of fish were in about 12-16 feet.
Going deeper and when paddling would only see a couple of fish at a time.

Fished the dam from Lavonia South for a little bit tonight.
Caught 1 white bass while paddling to the dam trolling a white rooster tail with a small storm minnow trailer. It bit the storm minnow.
Fished for Crappie at the dam. Fish had moved from 14-16 feet to 7-9 feet.
Caught about 8 small crappie on minnows from 7-8PM 1 white bass after 8 on a minnow with the head pinched off and quit seeing any fish by 8:30.
Had a rod out for catfish with shrimp on it, no bites.

Have you seen or heard of any reports fishing below the dam?

I went with my son in the evening about 2 weeks back stayed a couple hours.
Fished off the wing dam for catfish and crappie
There were a couple other people there and saw 2 perch caught and 2 bites on shad for catfish when thrown about 5 - 6 gates out.
Very slow night.

Went to Highland park tonight and fished from the bank.
Caught a couple of 2-3 lb cats on live shad with one hook in head and one in tail.
Bites were very light like came up and gently took bait and just sat there.
Maybe there were a few turtles out there stealing my bait also.
No action after ~8:45 till I called it quits at 10:15

I decided to go crappie fishing Thursday morning did not get started till 10 AM.
Started looking at a few brush piles in 12-17 feet, found one that was loaded with crappie.
Started out with 1.5" chartreuse/black jig, no takers, switched to the 1.5" electric chicken, that's what they wanted.
I would catch one every 3-4 minutes for about 30 minutes, then they shutdown.
Left that spot with 5 keepers, went to another brush pile, would catch 4-5 then they stopped biting.
Hit a few more spots it was the same, pulled up a few and they would stop biting.
It was getting hot so left at 2 PM with 11 keepers, threw back a lot of smalls.

A spot over by the island, there were small schools sandies popping shad, I could have caught all I wanted.
They kept this up from 11:30 till I left at 2 PM.

Lots of good size crappie taken at the dam this morning on minnows
Also a couple of nice sunfish.
Fish biting from 10 - 18 feet around structure.
A couple of white bass while trolling.
No catfish liked my shad or shrimp.
No luck with top water along rip rap before and after sunrise.

Fished out of East Fork Park tonight.
Fished the cove between East Fork and Avalon with crank baits, storm minnows and small silver spoon,
Did not see many fish and got no bites.
Then paddled back to the East Fork side of the cove in ~20-25 feet depths looking for structure.
Did not see much and few fish on finder.
Going back to the dock after it was dock, tried top water along the show and in the area where sticks sticking up from the water.
Not a single bite tonight and saw few fish on the finder.
I have decided that kayaking I do not cover a lot of ground expecially if I want to try fishing.
It takes me a while to locate structure and build up places I want to look into going back to.
Still exploring East Fork.

Could someone give me some pointers on where some structure is around East Fork Park?
Maybe I need to put in on the ramp that is on the main lake and got back towards Collin Park? I heard there used to be trees in the water just out from the cove, imagine now brush piles and stumps out there some where.

Beautiful night on the lake. Little wind and the water was glassy smooth at sunset.
Very colorful sunset and few boats/jet skis on the water.

Fished Lavon yesterday for the first time in awhile. Pulled 6 nice crappies off of the trees and caught maybe a dozen more. It was super nice on the water with the Cowboys playing last night.

Ocelot, if you're launching at East fork, I would paddle over to Avalon. I saw your other post looking for a paper map. PM me if you want to

There are no fish in sonic pond EDIT: Except 1 20lb catfish

Lake Lavon went up almost 4 feet Saturday and this morning is just shy of being 1 ft above normal level.
That is a 6 foot rise since low point on September 3.

Hammered them today off the bank (sandies)! Fished alittle bit with another tff local! It was on fire! I cant remember his name for nothing?! Hopefully he will see this.. anyways.. he had nice basket to take home! Lake is way uuuup! Water is still super warm.. lots of bait close to bank =pescados! Even with the north wind! I used cut shad mostly on bottom.. bounced back to me.. double hook rig on a 3/4 oz bell weight. Seemed to catch bigger fish on bottom getn scraps while smaller fish sporadically chasing shad at top!

Fished around the Railroad Bridge near Lavonia park.
Got a late start so did not get out to bridge till sunset and stayed till about 9:30.
Caught one white bass paddling out on storm minnow.
No bites on Shrimp for cats or Gulp minnows on jig.
Tried top water around trees near shore on way back nothing interested.
Lots more water here than earlier in the summer.
COE report shows up 7 feet from low start of September.
http://www.swf-wc.usace.army.mil/cgi-bin/rcshtml.pl?page=Reports

I have only seen 1 or 2 boats here before, there were 5-6 when I got to the park tonight.

Fished Mallard Park for a little over 2.5 hours tonight in the trees out from boast ramp and swim beach.
Water in this part of cove was 15-17 feet deep.
I only saw 4 maybe 5 fish on the finder.
No bites on shrimp and I could also not find any perch for bait using worms along brush near shore or in flooded trees.
A couple other anglers had similar results tonight one in same area the other fishing flooded timber further towards the bridge where starts to narrow.

When I came in, boat was covered with some thick slimy substance.
Had to scrub it off the kayak with a brush.
Anyone have an idea what this was?

Did the sludge look anything like this? This was from 5 months ago but it could be happening again.

Most of the time on the lake it was dark, I never saw anything in the lake.
Stuff had the consistency of jelly and slick as oil.
I do not remember a bad smell.

Fished between Lavonia South and the dam tonight.
Tried to find some perch along shore, flooded trees, flooded grass, no luck.
Tried for catfish with shrimp on one pole and 1/2 perch on another. No luck
Fished contour changes, then drifted back in 15-20 feet of water. Fished flooded bushes, and rip rap near the ramp.

Did catch 3 catfish 4, 5 and 8 inches while looking for perch.
My catfish drought is ended although not how I was hoping it would be.

Very little wind, a little moonlight and only saw one boat which was coming in as I was setting out.
Another beautiful night on the lake all to myself.
Best of all, no slime tonight.

I saw a yak on the southeast corner of the dam last night around 6-6:30 I think, thought about saying hi. Was cruising around scanning for brush and submerged timber. Hopefully can lock into some crappie this weekend if the rain holds off. Fished sporadically while scanning yesterday, not pulling up much. Did find one pile though that was LOADED, caught 5 quick and moved on.

Fished out of Collin Park this morning.
Had no bites when fishing the trees with shrimp, worms, Storm minnows or berkly fake minnow on jig head.
Tried to find some perch for jug lines but could not find any.
Caught a handful of meal size channel cats drifting jugs baited with shrimp.
Nice to be on the catching side again.

Bass fished yesterday morning in the wind, 0 bites, saw shad popping everywhere. The pup had a good time though, was a beautiful morning on the lake despite the lack of fish.

Sure hope you were on the lake today, beautiful weather till the temp dropped and the wind picked up.
Looks like last good day till possibly Wednesday.
Went fly fishing in my kayak at Collin Park fishing the flooded bushes along the shore.
Lake looked to be up about 3-4 feet and was well behind the bushes that were up on the shore.
Swallowed up the small pond and water was about 30 ft to the closest picnic tables.
I caught 1 white bass and one black bass.
Had my catfish rod out well behind the kayak with shrimp on the bottom in 7-9 feet of water, no bites.
Did not see many fish on the finder today, when I did it was just a couple at a time.

Had to take advantage of no rain and minimal winds so went kayak fishing out of Mallard Park tonight.
Set out a jugline baited with shrimp and caught a couple of catfish ~20inches.
Tried jigs for some crappie and rooster tail along riprap and trees on bank.
No bites to either of these.

Went to Mallard Park early this morning but the park was closed.
Then went to Collin park.
High water made it very easy to launch my kayak, did not even break out the cart.
Looked for perch and bait fish in grass, both sides of bushed that used to be close to water and in newly flooded trees.
I could not find any of either.
I saw a few fish on the finder and a couple of spots where they were schooling.
Could not get any bites in these locations using worms, or storm minnows behind a road runner.
Spent the rest of the time going after catfish using shrimp.
Managed to catch a few good eating size cats.
The cats were very gentle taking the bait usually just saw the line slowly move sideways.
Once they were hooked did not put up much of a fight either.

Fished the Dam last night using minnows.
Caught a few small stripers, 1 crappie and a drum.
Cut the drum up and used that and shrimp to try for catfish but no bites.

Did it look like anyone was catching Cats? I was thinking about hitting it tomorrow morning bright and early (4am) but I won't waste the drive if no one's catching anything.

Papa_Buggs, did you make it out to Lavon?
How were the cats biting?

I plan on going back early next week with a good supply of perch and shrimp for the cats.

I hope they keep releasing at Lavon Dam. I had really good luck in the past catching some huge spotted gar. Great fighting fish in the current.

Fished Lavon again tonight.
Caught a few more small white bass and a couple of drum on minnows.
Pinching the head off the minnow then running the hook inside the cavity, out back then putting back through side with most of hook beyond bend sticking out along side of the minnow seemed to get bites faster and have more hook sets.

Had one bite on shrimp tonight that set off the clicker for a moment. Did not return to take a second taste.
Had a disk weight at end of line to get bait off the bottom, keep hooks from getting hung up and keep rig in place in current. With this setup the cat would pull on the weight pretty quickly which probably scared it off if it was smaller.
Guessing at the distance bait was out and with the current that maybe I should go back to Carolina Rig but use a disk weight instead of egg sinker. If having problem with hangups then add a little pool noodle or small float to last hook to raise up off bottom a bit.
Did not see anyone catching catfish tonight.

Will be back later in the week trying to catch a large cat and enjoy catching the white bass on light tackle.

Releasing just a little under 2000 CFS today.
Been at this rate for over a week and lake is basically staying same level.
Lake is still a little over 9ft high.

You can check any Ft Worth district lake by going to
Ft Worth District COE Lake Information
Then selecting the lake you desire.
Scroll down the page and you will see current lake level and release rate.

I will probably try again tonight or tomorrow night.
Saturday morning supposed to be 35 degrees at 7AM.

Good luck and stay warm.

Fished Lavon again tonight. Caught a few white bass and drum before the rain. Bites slowed down considerably after the rain started.
Tried a couple of poles for catfish with shrimp and cut up perch. The cats were not biting tonight.
Water was coming over the tops of the gates occasionally, guessing from larger waves.

Fished Lavon this afternoon and up till about 9:30pm.
Caught a couple of nice crappie and saw several keepers pulled out.
More white bass all sizes.
Got my fist catfish in the last couple weeks about 3 lbs on shrimp.
Cats did not like cut up drum or shad today.
Little cats under 1 pound ate a lot of my shrimp.
A few drum were in the mix also.
Bite stopped about 6:30 tonight.

Corps doubled the release rate to close to 4000 cfs.
Lake is down over 2 feet from Thursday
No more water coming over the top of the gates or short bursts of water under the bottom.

Fished the dam last night.
Corps has been releasing water at near 7000cfs for days now
All gates open but one in the middle of the dam.
Lake level is down to about 1.6 foot high.
Could not find any shad with cast net.
Tried shrimp and stinkbait for cats, no bites
Saw a few folks catching a couple small crappie, did not see any keepers.

Fished the dam again tonight.
3 poles out each with 2 hooks having cut up fresh dead shad and perch no bites.
Did see one nice catfish caught.
Several small white bass were caught
Saw a few crappie that were right at keeper size.
Corps really cranked back the release from about 3600 cfs this morning to just center 2 gates open and 810 cfs.
Lake is not just over 1 foot high.
Guessing ramps should start opening up again in a week or so once the soil under parking lots, roads and ramps stabalizes.

Fished Lavon Friday morning , late start , got on the water at about 9 a.m.
I headed straight to the spot that I think everyone refers to as " Glass house point ? "
I found huge bait balls , the shad that jumped out of the water were maybe 2 inches .
Most of the fish I caught were in 30 ft of water .
I caught several white bass , Stripers and Blue catfish .
The catfish were caught on Stubbies dough bait on circle hooks about the size of a quarter .
The bass were caught on 1/8 yellow jig heads with live minnows .
I did not get any bites until I started thumping on the bottom of the boat, and then everything I saw on the bottom started coming up and hitting my lines .
The weather turned bad at about 11 am with winds to strong for me to hold position.
My fish finder clock is 2 hrs off , I'll have to try and figure out how to set that .
I wish I could afford a Bobo thumper , evertime I stopped thumping to real in lines the fish stopped biting .
I am a novice fisherman so It was very exciting to me to catch catfish along with white bass and stripers at the same time . [Linked Image]

I forgot to mention , only Collin park and if I remember correctly highland park ? Have open boat ramps. Collin park does not have a dock so you will have to beach your boat if you don't have a copilot. [Linked Image]

The corps opened Highland Park and Twin Groves boat ramps yesterday.
Highland Park does not have a ramp and no good place to beach the boat.
You can get lake updates on open facilities, lake level and release info by calling the :Lake Lavon Office at 972-442-3141 and pressing 1.
Lake is down to about 1 foot high.

By Friday the corps has opened the following ramps:Highland, twin groves, brockdale, Lavonie North, Mallard, East Fork Marina.
I went by Mallard Park on way back from fishing tonight to look at the ramp. Water is down well below the parking lot.
There is no courtesy dock at Mallard Park. I believe water is in that range where you can not beach boat on top of drop at shorline and too deep to get out at shoreline. Would probably need to beach boat on ramp.

Went to Mallard Park today to look for some catfish and crappie.
Decided to go towards 78 bridge, put out juglines along the riprap and fish the bridge and surrounding area.
Put out 3 jugs along rip rap near the bridge. Each jug had gizzard shad on one hook and mashed up minnows wrapped in cheese cloth on the other.
Used minnows on one pole for crappie and had a catfish pole out with 2 hooks each having part of a shad.
Fished from a little before 3 - 6:30 no bites.
Really did not see many fish there on the finder either.
Put on a square bill crank bait and threw out along the rip rap and trolled it behind my kayak as I came back in. No bites there either.
I was hoping fish would go back in the cove since the creek would have recently been flowing but I must have gone the wrong direction today.
Maybe I will have better luck on a small lake tomorrow.

My son is in for a few days for Christmas and we are planning on going kayak fishing on Lavon tomorrow, Saturday, afternoon/evening.
Thinking of bringing some shad, put out some jugs and then having a pole out for cats and one for crappie.

Trying to decide between fishing just north of Lavonia or along the creek channel at Twin Groves.

Any thoughts on where we might find some fish?

Fished out of my kayak from Colin Park this afternoon/evening.
Went north staying in the 20-25 foot range.
Seemed that there were fish most of the way to the next ramp to the north at about 22ft.
Was going too fast going up and used a 30inch drift sock coming back.
Wind wanted to push me into the shallower water so fought to try to keep in same depth range which
had me going too fast, successfully drifted last 1/2 the way back in desired depth range.
Tried shad on one pole and stink bait and worm on another behind the boat.
Tried rooster tail with small crank bait trailer changing to a jig trailer with small blade behind when going against the wind/waves and fan casting while drifting with wind.
I could not get anything to bite.

Corps clocked wind speeds up to 16MPH, forecast was for winds below 10 getting lighter as it got later and about 10 degrees warmer with some sun.
Forecasters totally missed it today.
Fortunately stayed nice and warm except for my fingers when the flip mitts were open.
First trip with the drift sock, have some more learning to do but pretty nice.

Not too cold today, at least my fingers never got cold. Overcast, foggy and misty with very little wind.
Do not know why I only saw 2 boats on the lake today.
Fished out of Colin Park using chicken, worms, stink bait, rooster tails, deep running crank baits, jigs.
Not a single bite despite seeing a lot of fish in the area.
With light wind and the drift sock am sure I was not going to fast today.
It was good to be able to get out on the water after a couple week break.

Tried fishing below the dam for a bit around sunset.
Fished from bank where water narrows down near the creek.
One pole out with chicken.
On the other tried slab, deer hair jig, crankbait and chatter bait.
No bites.
No one I ran into had any luck either.

Fished out of Colin park today.
I got 2 bits on chicken in 16-20 feet.
Not such a great fishing day, but and awesome day to be on the water.
First time in a long time bright sun, relatively warm and little wind.
I live for days like this on the water.
Had the whole lake to myself after sunset, beautiful and a welcome relief from the weather last couple of months.
Hope you were out there to enjoy it also.

With the warm temps and relatively mild winds went to Mallard park to do some catfishing from my kayak tonight.
Got on the water a little before sunset and stayed a couple hours.
Decided to try fishing the visible timber in the middle of the cove.
Tried several trees and drifted between a few but never ran into anything that was hugging the bottom.
Did see several schools of fish which were usually out where the edges of limbs would be, did not see any near the trunks.
No bites on my catfish rods.
Tried a 1/16oz chartruse road runner around trees and while drifting also, no bites.
Trolled a small jointed crankbait while going out to and back from trees. No bites on it either.
There were lots of vehicles with trailers in the parking lot, most coming in while I was getting ready to go out.
Just a couple of people fishing from the bank when I left.
Great to be out on a pleasant night and have the lake all to myself.

Nice and warm with bright sun this afternoon. Wind started to drop around 4:00 and by 6 no wind at all.
Surprisingly I only saw 2 boats today.
Fished in the trees NE of the north Colin park ramp.
No or few fish around trees sticking up out of the water.
Did see some fish on a couple of trees which did not break the surface.
Few arches near the bottom anywhere.
Stink bait, chicken, 1/8 oz jigs, 1/16 ounce road runners, jointed deep diving crankbait, small slab.
Skunked again, not a single bite.

After seeing the video of catfishing in the shallows on lake lavon, Seems Lavon still has a few fish, decided to go up north to Highlands and try for some catfish. This would be my last fishing trip with son before he heads to work across road from the Kenai river in Alaska for the summer. He decided he wanted to troll up north checking out places for duck hunting and then go check out the river. Long paddle against a stiff breeze this morning. We trolled crankbaits and chatterbaits most of the morning. Once we got to the top of the cove I set out a couple jugs with shrimp and drifted shrimp on santee rig and stinkbait on another poll with the wind sock a couple times. We the went over to the mouth of the river and up the river a little ways.
Ran out of time and had a leisurely trip back letting the current and/or wind push us back with very little paddling needed. Really did not get up the river far enough to find any fish. Trolled the crankbaits and chatterbait on way back to ramp.
Not only did we not get a single bite, I only saw 1 or 2 fish on my finder the whole time we were on the water.
They might have been further up in the river, but they were not in the trees or flats of the cove.

Fished the dam out of Lavonia Park Saturday afternoon and evening.
Was looking for catfish but when I would find a promising spot would throw out crappie jig also.
Trolled to and from the dam.
Fished for 5 hours not a single bite.
Trolling a large jointed crank bait going back to the ramp I thought I got hung up. When I pulled on the poll, I discovered I was not hung up.
Felt like I had caught someones trot line.
Hooked a flathead a little over 30 inches and 14+ pounds.
Too big for the net.
Awfully big to have in the kayak.
Finally figured out how to take a picture of it using my headlight to light it.
Funny, my son gave me a floating and marked hog trough for Christmas and I had been thinking I had not caught a single fish to weigh on it yet.
Also this week, my daughter and I were laughing about its size and me indicating I thought it might be a little short.
Well I christened every inch of it and then some.
It has been a long time since I caught a fish from my kayak felt really good, plus it is my personal best catfish.

Decided to go back today, Sunday.
Caught one 21" catfish in about 33 feet of water.
I did not really see any schools of fish today, just an occasional one or 2.

Hope you were on the lake. Bright sun, pleasant temps and very little wind.
Once it got dark did not get chilly, flat lake under a full moon. I only saw one boat out after dark total for both days.
Nothing like having the lake all to yourself on a nights like this.
Reminds me why I love kayak fishing.
Looking forward to many more beautiful days/evenings on the water.

The free ramp at Lavonia is open now.
Went yesterday evening to do some catfishing.
Worked from ~7 - 35 fow.
Had out pole with stinkbait and one with shrimp.
Would throw jointed crankbait or storm minnow while slowly drifting.
Not a single bite.
Surface temperature was 63.
Cool thing was watching the moon rise.
With the clouds, looked almost like a sunrise.
It starting with a small orange glow which gradually got bigger until an orange moon came up over the horizon.
There are always things to be thankful for even when I don't catch any fish.

Fished a couple hours tonight out of my kayak.
Very light wind and temps near 70.
Parking lot was almost full with over 20 boat trailers and others fishing from shore.
Wanted to do some catfishing but when got on the water saw several boats where I wanted to go.
Changed gears and decided to do some trolling with jointed minnow followed by small kastmaster spoon.
After loosing spoon switched trailer to small rooster tail.
Caught several small white bass on the trailers except when I caught 2 at once.
Had a blast with my light tackle.
Also saw lots of fish on my finder in 8-10 foot.
After dark and before heading back to the ramp managed to bring in a nice crappie.

Fished a couple of hours Sunday evening from the wingdam hoping to get me some catfish.
Saw just a couple of white bass caught but no catfish.
Then came the torrential rain, lightening and small hail.
After storm blew over continued fishing for a while.
Overall had a couple bites on shrimp that alerted me via the clicker but nothing there when set the hook.

Went fishing for the first time this year, it was windy, mostly fished the cove by Collin Park. I was hoping crappie would be biting, only caught 4, 1 keeper 3 shorts and a bass. The water temp in the back of the cove was 62 degrees and in front 58. The 1 keeper was full of eggs and looked to be ready to spawn, it was in 4 water. I tried for some catfish but could not get a bite.

For those who have not heard, East Fork Park will be closing by April 4th if they do not get a gate Attendant. This is a great boat ramp when there is a strong south wind, hope they get someone soon.

Fished Mallard Park for a while today in my kayak.
About 10 boats on the water when I got there.
Wind made it pretty tough to get back and fish areas where I saw fish today.
Decided to just slowly troll around the edge of the cove and work along brush lines.
Managed to hook into my first large mouth bass of the year on a jointed crank bait.

[Linked Image]

About 7:00 wind dropped down to about 3-4 mph.
By that time almost all the boats were off the water and missed the more pleasant weather and pretty sunset.

Went out kayak fishing again this evening.
Caught several small white bass mostly on a small umbrella rig with white jigs, some on jointed minnow trailing a small kastmaster.
Also caught one on jointed deep diving crankbait.
Most fish in 8 feet where the lake started to level off and a couple in 5 feet near brush way up in cove.
Saw a lot of gar after it got dark.
Also saw a few more small schools of fish this evening.
Couple of boats I talked with did not have any luck.

Took my kayak out last night to troll for some white bass.
Caught some in 4-5 feet near brush on jointed crank bait and one on small kastmaster behind jointed minnow.
All caught in water protected from wind, no bites on downwind side of cove.
Did not get any bites on the small umbrella rig.
Could not get anything to bite after it got dark.

Went to Mallard park today with intention of catching some white bass before dark while trolling in kayak then looking for crappie and catfish after it got dark.
Saw the fewest fish here I have seen the last 2 weeks of kayak fishing. Do not know where they were today.
Caught a couple small white bass in 4 feet or less near brush on small kastmaster behind jointed minnow.. Never found or saw any schools.
Caught one decent crappie on headless minnow on jighead while slowly trolling in about 6 feet of water. I did not see a school or any structure there.
While untangling my poles and setting up for catfishing caught a channel cat about 18" on jointed crankbait barely moving behind kayak.
Odd, have had better luck with catfish on the jointed crankbait than stinkbait, shrimp or chicken and not even targeting them with the crankbait.
Left my headlamp in the truck and with rods tangled and not much light gave up on the crappie fishing and very slowly trolled stinkbait back to ramp.
Another beautiful day on the water and winds seemed lighter than forecast.
As a bonus I caught a few fish.

Went out kayak fishing Thursday after work. Wanted to go to new section and check out the shallow areas next to brush and also along rip rap while trolling.
Did not see many fish in shallows near brush, caught one small white bass on small kastmaster next to a bush I got hung up on.
Caught one catfish on the jointed crankbait.
If was dark when started down the rip rap. Saw several places where there were good concentrations of fish either about 6-8 feet or 15-20 feet.
Added a rod with a small road runner and also an 1/16 ounce jig while slowly trolling bank.
Trolling I did not get any bites.
Headed across the cove and back to ramp and again saw several places where there were a good number of fish in 12-14 feet.
Hooked into a couple of trotlines but could not get any bites.

Went back out Friday after work. Decided to get some minnows on the way and planned to go back along the rip rap, locate the fish and fish for crappie with minnows and stinkbait for catfish.
Put out 3 polls to troll with, small umbrella rig, jointed crankbait and jointed minnow trailing small rooster tail.
Hooked into a white bass on way to destination. Kept working the area and caught several white bass almost exclusively on the jointed minnow trailing the rooster tail.
It was not uncommon to have 2 white bass, one on the jointed minnow and one on the rooster tail.
Managed to catch one catfish on the umbrtella rig which will make a nice meal.
Jointed crankbait only hooked up with one white bass.
White bass were larger today 11-13"
Never saw schools of fish in the area but always a couple of fish on the screen.
Was windy and spent a fair amount of time untangling lines after catching a fish when trolling into the wind and kayak drifting back while fight fish. Need to figure out how to avoid this as wasted a fair amount of time untangling lines.
As got dark, could no longer find the white bass so put out my ultralight with minnow while slowly trolling.
Caught one small crappie on it.
Tried going back along the rip rap looking for the concentrations of fish but never found them so never did fish my plan.
Saw lightening was coming my direction so headed back to the ramp while trolling.
Did not see many fish on the way back.
At ramp talked to a couple of folks as they brought their boats in. They were all fishing the other direction from me and were mainly fishing for crappie on rip rap with minnows under a bobber.
All caught a few crappie and maybe a cat or 2. None had any white bass action.

Did you launch at Lavonia? Been wanting to do some yak fishing but wind has me worried, and this entire week looks bad.

Fished dam this afternoon/evening.
White bass were being caught on worms and minnows.
A few small catfish being caught on worms.
Drum liked minnows.
Tried throwing castnet for bait but only got one drum after several throws.
I had cut up drum out on 3 poles for catfish, not a single bite.
Fishing was on the slow side. Several people left with no fish.
Looking for the wind to stop so can get out in my kayak.

Fished Mallard park this evening. Water looked like chocolate milk with lots of debris in water.
Very few fish seen in shallow water out to 10 foot.
Found the fish on my way back in when cutting across the cove.
They were in open water not close to submerged trees or structure.
Started out trying to catch some perch to use for catfish later using worms.
I could not get any bites or find any along bushes or grass near shore.
Decided to troll counter clockwise around the cove with jointed crankbait, jointed minnow trailing small rooster tail and an umbrella rig.
Not a single bite.
A little after sunset threw out some fiber nuggets off some a couple of points up near the flooded brush.
No bites.
Beautiful weather, glass smooth water and not a boat to be seen after sunset made this outing a winner.

Fished out of Lavonia South yesterday evening and night.
Tried throwing cast net in cove and at boat ramp for shad, no luck.
Same combination out trolling for white bass as previous days.
Trolled down to and along dam, then went up the lake to check out large group of birds.
Got tangled up and missed the birds but caught one white bass on a slab in that general area.
Then slow trolled back to dam and up in 10-15ft with stinkbait on a fourth rod.
Did not see many fish along dam.
Did see some going back up lake in 10-15ft of water.
Managed to catch 7 white bass. 4 over 12". mostly after dark.
Beautiful day. Great temp, sunny, minimal wind and before sunset I was only person on the lake till I left after midnight.

Kayak fished out of Lavonia south this morning/afternoon.
Got a late start as I had to get my poles ready and then about halfway to lake realized I forgot my cart to had to go back home and get it.
Caught about 2 dozen shad near the boat ramp.
Checked out a couple of waypoints near the ramp but did not see any fish.
Slowly trolled through other way points till found fish threw out a buoy then kept going along waypoints till no longer saw fish and threw out another marker.
Would anchor and fish between the markers, moving when looked to slow down.
Caught over a dozen small white bass on my light action pole which makes catching everything fun.
When I had no more live shad, ran hook through top of mouth and out top of head. These worked almost as good as live shad.
Also caught a couple on white rooster tail.

Funny, I was planning on going cat fishing today. Getting into an area with lots of fish can quickly change my plans.

Several boats coming and going at the ramp and trailers in parking lot, but no boats down by or along the dam.
Made for a very peaceful and fun day.

Kayak fished the peninsula at Little Ridge today. Plan was to get some shad and try to find some catfish.
Paddled down on windy side till found large grassy area and threw net out several times. No shad and continued this till got to end of peninsula.
Still no shad. Saw that there were a coupld of boats sorta close together on sourth side and when I went over to take a look saw the birds swarming and diving.
Caught a couple white bass on the way out to the birds in about 10fow on small rooster tail behind jointed minnow.
White bass under birds were mainly 20-25 ft deep in 25-35 fow. Changed over to small umbrella rig on one poll with some splitshot to help it get down and stay down.
On another pole had slab trailing a storm minnow. Caught over 20 white bass up to 13" mostly on the storm minnow while slowly trolling aroundbirds and where saw fish on finder.
Had one pole out with shrimp for catfish the whole time. Not a single bite.
We all lost the fish a little before sunset. Beautiful sunset and hardly a breeze to cause any ripples on the water.
One day, I will actually follow through on my original plan but catching fish is awfully fun especially on light tackle.

I finally got a chance to get out again. There are plenty of small sand bass to catch, caught them by the island, little Ridge point and several other places. For every 8 to 10 fish you may get 1 keeper. I went looking for crappie, I found them in 22' on brush piles but could not get them to bite on jigs, minnows may have worked but did not have any.

Went Kayak fishing out of Lavonia South this evening.
Tried catching shad around the boat ramp and cove just to the north, could not find any there.
Fished the shallows between ramp and dam with crankbaits and rooster tails.
No bites and saw very few fish.
About sunset put out a poll with shrimp and very slowly drifted along edge of trees. No bites.
Caught one small crappie on way back to the ramp.
Had to try the cove just north of ramp with crankbaits before leaving for the night.
No bites.
Saw very few fish on the finder tonight, none in schools and no shad.

Fished out of Lavonia south yesterday afternoon/evening. With several boat ramps closed, the parking lot was packed, only 2 open spots when I arrived with a couple vehicles parking off the roadside.
Started off looking for shad in cove just to north of ramp. With the courtesy dock closed, several boats were using the grassy section to park boats while letting people off or going to get their vehicles.
I caught a couple of small bass I threw back a large minnow and finally found a few small perch near the trees.
With some bait for catfish and some minnows I purchased it was time to do some fishing.
Trolled around mainly in 15-25 fow with the jointed minnow followed by rooster tail on one pole and jointed shad xrap on another looking for fish.
Threw out a couple of markers when I found some fish and would slowly troll through the area.
Caught about 15 white bass on the rooster tail.
As wind died down just a little decided to put a crappie rig on pole and try to fish spots where I saw fish.
Managed to catch about 6 more on the minnows. These fish were larger than on the rooster tail.
When wind slowed down, the bite slowed down as well.
Put out a jug with the small perch near some trees and a couple along rip rap while I slow trolled the minnow and jointed wrap.
Also one poll with a small perch under float trailing behind the boat.
Managed to catch 3 small catfish on the small perch.
While barely moving hooked into a 13" crappie on the jointed xrap.
Funniest thing was catching a perch which saw just slightly longer than the jointed xrap I hooked it on
Ended the night slowly trolling back to ramp on still water but did not get any bites or see many fish.
Beautiful day out on the water and catching a few fish made it a great day.

Went kayak fishing out of Lavonia South this morning.
A little after sunrise tried catching some shad in the cove at the boat ramp.
All I could come up with was a few small perch.
Decided to go across the cove and try the south shore of Lavonia but did not have any luck there.
Tried minnows around some of the trees/brush in the cove but no bites so decided to troll down to and along the dam.
Put out the jointed xrap on one pole and small crankbait triling a rooster tail on another and started off towards the dam.
Went over spots I see fish frequently but none there this morning.
Once got to dam, put out a poll with one of the small perch behind the kayak as I slowly trolled along the dam in about 8-10ft
Found a promising place for a jug and put one out with a couple more of the small perch and kept going.
Got to about 1/2 mile from the end of the riprap with no bites.
Turned around and generally let the wind push me back paddling to try to stay about 16 ft or where the slope started to flaten out.
Managed to get one small crappie on a minnow.
Nothing on the jug so brought it in and swapped out the small crankbait/rooster tail for a slab traling a storm minnow.
Aimed directly back for the ramp. Letting the wind push me back while I would paddle just enough to go not too far north of the ramp.
Managed to catch one small white bass on the jointed xrap.

Ramp was a zoo today with lots of boats coming and going and people just coming out to the lake.
If you are out on the water, be safe and alert to other boaters.

This time a year I really like to splash the water with my rod tip or a Small mallet thumped on the boat.. Im sure this technique works while kayaking! Call them to you... very affective on this lake thumb

Ledeez,

Next low wind day with little chance of rain I will try calling in some fish.

Seems I would need to be close to the fish for this to work.
If in shallow water < 15ft guessing could pull in some fish I am not seeing on finder.
For deeper water if I am not seeing fish on finder would it still work?

They are releasing water at just less than 2800 cfs.
There should be some action below the dam.

Oh yeah.. just call them in. When you catch one reeling slow usually gets them going.. Cordell casting spoon with your jig of choice tied 12-18 above is $

Fished out of lavonia south today. Looked all over and never found any schools of fish in brush or on structure.
Could only find a couple spread out pretty thin.
Caught a couple of white bass on minnow with light weight trolling far behind kayak.
Caught a 17" LMB slow trollling on crappie rig with about 1/2 oz weight to help stay down.
Tried worms around trees and brush for some perch only got one bite in about 1 1/2 hour checking out several places.
Overall a pretty slow day.
Ramp and parking was crazy since one of only 3 open corps ramps on the lake and the nice weather today.

Went kayak fishing from Lavonia South for about an hour and a half this evening. Slow trolled shore up to and through railroad bridge a little bit into cove and then back along shore close to brush.
Had jointed minnow with small white rooster tail trailer on one pole, jointed xrap on another and small umbrella rig with small white jigs on third pole.
Left my transducer at home so can not report on seeing any fish or able to locate any schools.
Caught one 12" white bass by the railroad bridge and a 19" LMB off north shore of Lavonia park.
Beautiful night, warm but not hot, barely any breeze.
Although parking lot was pretty full, did not run into many boats.
Top it off with a nice sunset on flat waters.
My daughter came along just wanting to kayak some and got a picture of me with my bass.

Fished out of Lavonia Park tonight. Put kayak in at north end of park where they had the road blocked off because of flooded road to camp site.
This is about where shore turn back to the east.
Tried throwing cast net over flooded grass behind flooded brush for shad. Nothing after several throws as worked down shore.
Trolled along brush and rip rap up to and under the railroad bridge.
Caught one small LMB on the rooster tail behind jointed minnow.
Spent a while trolling around the bridge area.
Only saw a couple schools of fish. One close to shore and others near bridge.
Was not getting any bites so changed out to use a 1/4 oz rooster tail on one poll which I tried throwing across schools and pulling through fish at different depths.
Also put on a 1/16 oz chartruse road runner did same thing with it.
Also had a slab 1/2 to 3/4 oz black and silver..
No bites so let all go down to bottom and raised up to where the fish were. Let mild wind gently push me through the fish.
Managed to catch one 12" crappie on the slab.
Went back to standard trolling setup to work shore back to where I put in.
May have gotten a coupe of bites on way back but did not take the hook so could have run into some brush or something also.
Did catch a lot of submerged brush tonight.
Overall a slow night but beautiful night with pleasantly warm temps, bright sun and very mild winds.
Again, very few boats out near me and once got dark did not see a single boat on the water.
Love being out on the water on nights like this.

Fished a couple hours out of Lavonia around sunset tonight.
Started out throwing the cast net and got one large shad and one perch.
Cut the shad up and put on 2 juglines and a poll. Put the jugs out near the railroad bridge where saw fish and later along riprap where saw fish.
Put out poll with shad while baiting jugs and slow trolled area near bridge.
Trolled Jointed Minnow followed by rooster tail on one poll, a slab on another and 2 jigs on a third while made my way to railroad bridge and back in 15-25 feet of water.
Could see fish in the area between 15-20 feet but only got one small white bass on the rooster tail.
No bites on the jugs or poll with shad tail.
Mild winds and few boats out on the water tonight.
Really pretty sunset tonight.

Hello folks,
Here is an update on crappie fishing the past 2 weeks at Lavon.
I went out last Tuesday and again yesterday, the crappie bite is about as good as it gets.
They are on their normal summertime pattern biting on blk/chartreuse and white/chartreuse jigs.
You can usually pick up 3-8 keepers at each brush pile then it slows down and time to move on.
I took my 11yr old grandson out yesterday and showed him how to fish for crappie, he caught 25.
There was 3 of us fishing and several times we would all have fish on.
Get out there and have fun

I took my wife out yesterday morning for sand bass but they would not cooperate. Fished by the glass house, the island and Little Ridge Point, caught a bunch of little ones 10" or less. Decided to go crappie fishing instead. We did well on them, we fished for crappie for a little over an hour and she caught 15 I caught about the same. They were in 14-17 water on brush piles using blk/chartreuse jigs.
The attached file is a few we kept

Family issues have kept me off the water for a while so it was really nice to be able to get out last night.
Went to Lavonia South and things started out well as I caught well over a hundred shad in first throw of the net.
Decided to slow troll down to dam checking out my waypoints to see if I could find any fish on the way.
Jointed xrap trailing small storm minnow on one rod and 1/4 oz white rooster tail on the other.
I saw fish spread around in 12-20 fow, no schools and no groupings on/near structure.
When got down to the dam put shad out on 3 polls. One thrown toward the dam, one under the kayak and one trailing the kayak
Wind was very light so slowly drifted about .2 - .3mph along dam.
Same thing, could not find any schools or groupings of fish.
Tried hooking shad through mouth, through back, and finally pinching off head and hooking through back.
Tried just letting slowly follow boat and also casting up toward dam and slowly retrieving.
Ended up catching 2 small crappie on shad with head pinched off hooked through the back while trolling.
Switched one rod back to the jointed xrap and storm minnow to slowly troll back to ramp.
Managed 1 LMB under 3" on the storm minnow.
Overall saw several fish but could not figure out how to get them to bite.
Very few boats out and had the whole lake to myself the last 2 hours.

Made my first trip to Avalon park tonight. Mainly trolled around the area trying to see what is there on my finder.
Found some fish in 20-25 feet of water but xrap, rooster tail, and slab would not get them to bite.
Caught some larger shad tonight and had out behind kayak. Lost a couple in hangups but no bites on them.
Might need to try minnows or Jigs next time I go out there.
There is more traffic on the lake here than on the east side.

Had a large block of time yesterday afternoon/evening so had to go try out Lakeland Park. I have seen this park many times from 78 and always looked very pretty and like a good place to fish. Was a little windy so fished some on both the north and south shore of the cove just south of ramp that runs back to 78. After you get a little ways into the cove the water is mainly under 10ft or less except for a few spots on the north side that I found. Caught several big shad which I would cut up and put on a poll under a float behind my kayak. Wanted to fish around brush at shore but at current lake level(1 foot below normal) I did not find any brush in more than 1-2 foot of water.
I did a lot of trolling with jointed xrap and rooster tail. Managed to catch a few striped bass. Went to a few submerged trees to target for catfish with the cut shad but no bites. Did not see much structure in the cove on my finder and not many fish either. Thinking might be best to go to when lake is above normal or in cooler weather when fish go up shallower. Unlike many ramps on Lavon there is no light on at the ramp after dark so need to unload kayak and put on vehicle using headlamp.

Went to Little Ridge tonight and launched my kayak at the end of the peninsula fished mainly off end and a little on south side.
Had cut shad on a pole behind the boat about 1-2 foot off the bottom No bites on it.
Had 2 small rooster tails on one poll no bites and switched over to a slab since seeing lots of fish 15-20feet in 25+fow.
Got 2 bites on the slab but amazingly neither hooked into the fish.
Used minnows on a crappie rig on one pole. Caught 3 keeper crappie and 2 white bass on the minnows hooked through the back.
Fish were in 10-12 fow about 2 feet off bottom.
Large group of folks there on the shore were catching a few also.
Could not find any shad throwing my net from the shore before I launched.

Last night 11pm-6am. Just outside Lavonia cove, 2 catfish on minnows with heavy weights (windy, choppy waters) ~14' depth in '30 FOW. Several throwback 7-9" white bass on crank baits towards rip-rap.
Avalon Park, spoons with shad, more white bass.

Finder/scope was covered in fish many times, they just weren't feeding hard. Most activity was in the '9-16' depth across the board.

FWIW, sizeable shad was a little more of a hunt than usual.

Good Luck!

After a near skunk kayak fishing Lake Texoma for over 20 hours this weekend, decided to give Lavonia South a try this evening.
Caught all the shad I thought I would need first throw of cast net.
Then trolled on way to dam to do some catfishing.
Caught 3 white bass 13-15 inches on the way on small umbrella rig, jointed shad rap and jointed minnow trailing small rooster tail.
Once near the dam, saw some bait fish jumping so put on a top water and caught 3 more.
I really wanted to do some catfishing so swapped out to fish 2 polls with 2 - 3 inch shad and one poll with a 7 inch shad.
All my shad were dead so I used hook to make a couple of cuts in belly.
Found a promising spot and quickly began catching white bass.
Before dark had about 8 more white bass 12-14 inches and 5 catfish 13-18 inches.
Something took a large chunk out of the belly of the large shad. Then a good while later took everything but the head.
Finally, lost the head. I had a 7/0 hook through the head and nothing ever got hold of if. Next time I will add a stinger hook.

Many thanks to KQT for some pointers I finally got a chance to try tonight.
Gave me a really good night after a lot of rough trips with few results.

Lavon was on fire this evening! Lots of decent sandies! Thumping was key... cotton Cordell casting spoon w/ jig and plastic = doubles

Fished the dam from Lavonia South last night and this morning.
Boy what a difference from evening to morning.
Friday got plenty of shad quickly and found a spot where I caught 8 cats 18-21 inches in about 1 1/2 hours.
Several white bass while trolling to/from the dam. Also got a few at the dam.
Caught my first gar, Friday night as well.
After a short rest, got back on lake again before sunrise.
Hard to get any shad today, and they were smaller.
Cats would not touch the shad today. Did not like chicken, drum or shrimp either.
About 9:45 got my first bite on worms and I was almost down to the outlet.
Caught 6 cats up to 22 inches in about an hour before it was time to start the long paddle back.
Caught a few white bass on rooster tail trailing jointed minnow on the way back.
Quite a good couple of outings.

Fished the dam from Lavonia South again tonight from my kayak.
The rod rigged with earth worms barely hit the water before I had a catfish on.
Cats mostly liked worms but would go for shad just not as quickly.
Had a couple larger shad.
1st one put a circle hook through back and stinger hook on bottom near tail.
Something came and took a big chunk out of the belly, missed both hooks.
Adjusted the hooks in what remained and ended up catching 2 cats one on each hook.
Other large shad were not as big but I adjusted the hooks so could not take out belly.
Caught a cat on each one but no flatheads or any big cats.
Ended up keeping 10 16-19 inches which should make a good dinner for when my oldest comes home from Alaska mid September.
Shad were easy to get and a couple larger ones mixed in.
Beautiful night out on the lake and after about 7:30 I did not see any boats on the water.

Kayak fished out of Lavonia south tonight after the threatening looking clouds cleared up.
Went down to dam to do some catfishing with plenty of shad and a couple of large ones.
Looked for some new spots and found one spot that produced 4 cats over 18 inches and 1 gar over 30 inches.
Did not try worms tonight, just the shad I caught before heading out.
Had circle hook in back and a stinger hook in the belly of the large shad but nothing came and took the belly out of the large shad tonight.
No one was on the lake tonight, wind died down and it was really nice.

Kayak fished from Lavonia South this afternoon/evening.
Got some shad but had to work for them. A few small ones and maybe one 7-10 inches each throw.
Headed to the dam to do some catfishing.
Found a few new places. Started off with worms on one rod and small shad on another.
One pole out behind boat with large shad.
Was getting a couple on worms early on then switching over to the small shad.
Something took the hook in one of my large shad and brought in a 22 inch cat. Nothing else was interested in large shad, mangled large shad or large shad cut in half .
Later was only getting bites on shad.
Ran out of small shad and cut up the large shad. Nothing liked the tail but then sliced into 3/4 - 1 inch strips and threw out and also used the head.
This was the best bait of the day and around sunset lots of action till I ran out of bait.
Threw everything back under 18inches and went home with 6 over 18 inches.
Parking lot was pretty full but not that many boats down by the dam although I could have easily snagged the knee boarders on one boat that made several passes closer than I would have preferred.
Wind was pretty mild today and lake was like glass after dark.
Another great day on the water.

I'm new to Lavon but fished the dam on sunday and ran the lake just kinda getting to know it a bit. problem is i am not familiar with the names of these locations. I put in at the free ramp on the east side of the dam and found small schools of 9 in fish along the dam. Only caught 1 keeper all day long but did manage a few channel cat along the dam. I would love to know where to find bigger schools and maybe even bigger fish at least some keepers. I love catching the little guys for my little guys but looking to stock up a bit before the winter months hit and fishing gets tough

I was out on sunday all day along the dam and had similar results. And yes the knee board boats were borderline rediculous

You can go to the Fort Worth District Corps Of Engineers site to get lots of information about the lake.
The ramp closest to dam on East side of lake is Lavonia South. The one you pass just after going over bridge above railroad tracks and turning back to the dam is Lavonia and charges you to use the facilities.

Lake Lavon Map

Welcome to fishing Lake Lavon.
I am frequently fishing out of Lavonia South in my red kayak with 2 orange flags. Feel free to stop by and say hi sometime.
Were you in a white boat with several people aboard? If so we chatted just a bit out by the dam.

No sir i was in a black Champion with my wife and 2 youngest boys. Tried to give you guys plenty of room over there on the east end of the dam. I mainly stayed along the rocks or withing flippin range as i was flippin stink bait up there catching a few cats. Ny wife and 2 boys swam along very close to our boat in order to stay cool.

Went kayak fishing out of Lavonia South last night.
Pretty easy to get shad. Good mixture of sizes each throw and also managed a few perch.
Headed to the dam to do some catfishing.
Put out one poll with earth worms, and one with shad. One catfish rod behind the kayak with live perch.
Cats were biting on the worms and shad but seemed to prefer the shad. Liked slices from bigger shad also, but the head took a while longer to get bites on.
Really wanted to catch some sats on the flyrod so put a small peg float on, size 1 hook and added some shad.
A little tough to throw with a 5wt rod but managed to get it where I wanted
Managed to catch around 8 cats 15-21 inches on a lightweight rod and the flyrod.
Hardest thing with the flyrod was waiting for the cat to get a good bite on the small shad or shad strips before setting the hook.
Found myself frequently setting the hook to find nothing on the other end.
Not sure if I was setting hook to early or was getting bites from gar in the area.
Waited to set hook till had a stronger bite and pulling more line, same thing.
Did manage to hook 4 on the fly rod and bring into the kayak.
Other problem was trying to hold fly line while fighting fish or pull it in with catfish slime on my hands. This was much easier to solve
I got one really good bite on the perch which rotated my kayak around the anchor line, set hook hard and fought something larger for a while before it spit out the perch.
Odd, not a single bite mark on it. Guessing the hooks might have have been too small.
Really fun night and I can't wait to go out and do some more cats on the the flyrod.

Another evening of kayak fishing Lavon dam out of Lavonia South.
Hard to find shad this evening got a few but really had to work for them. Also 1 perch.
Headed to the dam to do some catfishing.
Cats did not care for worms at all tonight. Also slow on small shad(1/12-2 inches)
Did not have any 4-5 inch shad but did have a larger shad I cut into strips and they really liked it. Even took the tail tonight.
Managed to catch 3 on my light weight rod and 4 on my fly rod 16-21 inches
Used 2 circle hooks in the perch on catfish rod parallel to dam in about 12 fow. 2 good bites that ran on the clicker a bit before I picked up the rod, 1st fought a bit then spit out the bait, no bite marks, perch still alive. 2nd managed to get the perch but miss being hooked by hooks in belly and upper back.
Beautiful night on the water with minimal wind and just enough moon so you could see a bit.
Happened to see a couple of river otters playing on the rocks when I came back in.

Fished the dam out of Lavonia South this morning and early afternoon.
Could only find small shad with cast net but also caught a couple perch that were good size for bait.
Headed to dam and looked for fish. Tried my favorite spots but even though I saw a few fish on the finder, was really tough to get to bite.
Managed to catch one one cat on small shad under the boat and otherwise nothing took the small shad or was interested in cut up perch or the live perch behind the kayak.
Caught 5 cats on worms and fed a lot of perch. Finally put on small hook with some worm and caught a few fun perch too big for bait.
Decided to troll a 1/4 oz pink/whit/green rooster tail with gold blade in 8-12 feet of water on way back to ramp far behind the kayak. Caught my biggest fish of the day on the rooster tail.
Only had 3 cats over 17" today, all the others threw back to grow up.
Had some luck but it was pretty tough out there today. Fortunately was not having to fight the wind also.
First time to be fishing in the morning for a couple of weeks. Think I will go back to late afternoon/evening so I can get some good shad.

Got to got kayak fishing for a short bit tonight out of Lavonia South.
Was able to catch small shad easily. A couple 4-5 inche shad and no large shad or perch with the castnet.
Headed to the dam for some catfishing.
I did not see many fish along the dam tonight. Got to one of my favorite spots and decided to fish there.
Cats did not like the small shad tonight. Liked the 4-5 inch shad a lot. Since I had mainly small shad, I put 3 on a hook with bellies sliced open and that worked much better.
Tried worm but not a lot of interest in it tonight.
I had several bites but only managed to get one 16" cat to the boat tonight.
I would have good bites and would fight them for a bit then they would get off. Happened with both my spining and fly rods.
I did see a lot of gar around tonight so maybe that was part of what was happening.
I had my headlight on so I could see the slip floats and the gar would come almost right up to the boat.
Did manage to catch my fist gar on my fly rod tonight a 23" longnose gar.
Funny, up until the last couple weeks have never caught a gar and now I even have one on my fly rod.
I am not targeting them, just happen to be where I am and like my bait.
I did not see a single boat at the ramp or on the lake tonight.
A little wind and a bright moon. Made for a really nice night out on the water.

Went catfishing last night out of Lavonia South in my kayak.
Pretty easy to find shad and found4-5 inch ones easily. No larger ones but a couple of small perch found their way into my net also.
Headed out to the dam and got there just before sunset.
Although windy earlier int the day, the wind dropped off by evening.
Catfish really liked the 4-5 inch shad with their belly slit also 2-3 2" shad with belly slit worked well also
Mainly fished with shad on my fly rod. Hard to find the time to get the other pole baited up and watch it before have a bite.
Caught over a dozen cats taking 4 home in the 17-20 inch range.
Caught one 28" gar on the fly rod.
Had the perch out behind the kayak and caught one 20" cat on the first one, nothing took the little larger second one.
A really good night and a lot of fun to catch the cats on the fly rod.

Kayak fished the dam from Lavonia South again tonight.
Good variety of shad with cast net and a couple of small perch in the mix also.
Had my first cat on the fly rod about 5 seconds after bait hit the water.
Caught 11 with 2 over 20 inches tonight, mostly on the fly rod.
I had my catfish pole out the back of the kayak with a small perch under a float and caught 2 on it.
1st one started rotating the kayak around the anchor.
After getting the cat off and rebaiting, threw out and got a birds nest in my baitcaster.
I forgot my headlamp tonight so I had the moon, fishfinder and my yak attack visipro light.
Thank goodness for a bright moon tonight.
Not enough light to even begin to tell how to get everything untangled or to even undo the birds nest so just put rod in back holder and left bait in the water.
A while later my kayak is being jerked around and I hear a big commotion behind me. Look back and have another catfish on the catfish rod.
Cats really liked the 4-5 inch shad, cut shad or 2-3 small shad. When using whole shad, would make a couple cuts in the belly with the hook.
Really different fishing when can not see my floats or which direction the line is going off the end of the pole.
Frequently cats would take bait and come towards boat so I would not know anything till cat is on other side of the kayak and my poll is going crazy.
This coupled with the wind moving the floats around made trying to detect a bite early pretty difficult.
Good thing is none of the cats came close to swallowing a hook tonight.
Another really fun night on the lake under a moonlit sky with lake all to myself.
Will have to keep with this plan until the cats decide to do something else.

Kayak fished the dam from Lavonia South last night.
Easily got the shad I needed with my cast net. Most over 4 inches with a small perch thrown in.
Started off a little slow and ended the night a little slow but did pretty wel overalll.
Caught one cat on the perch over 20inches.
Managed to catch 10 total with 4 going over 20 inches on fly rod and lightweight rod.
Saw a lot of gar in the water. Seem to like the area my headlamp lights up.
Tried just letting the wind push me along the dam ~.2 mph at the end but did not get any bites drifting.

Kayak fished out of Lavonia South again last night.
Got a good supply of shad but had to work a little harder for them.
Headed back out to the dam to do some catfishing
Trolled a jointed xrap on way out and caught one small bass on way out.
Managed to catch a few cats pretty quickly with shad on my fly rod then had to work a little harder.
Just like Thursday night, the bite seemed to slow down after 9-9:30.
Worked a lot of spots afterwards to find a couple more fish. There were not may fish I could even locate with my finder.
Tried worm and got no bites on it.
Had one perch out in a little deeper water and got no bites on it.
Switched it out to a large shad and caught a good eating size blue on it.
Ended up catching 7 cats with 3 over 20 inches.

Went back to Lavonia South for more catfishing at the dam from my kayak last night.
Got there a little after 7:00 and had good success catching shad.
Took off to the dam and and fished a couple of spots before I got a bite.
Bite was very light, just moving the float but not taking it under.
Managed to bring in 2 14" cats both on hook with 2 small shad with a couple of slits in belly.
Did not catch anything on shad 4" or larger even if cut in half.
Also would have times when something stole my bait and I never detected it.
A Couple of times had a really strong tug on line and when nothing still messing with it after a bit bring in and the line is cut, guessing these were gar.
Tried a few spots and different depths but could not get bites despite seeing a good amount of fish passing through.
Tried trolling jointed xrap to/from dam but no bites on it either.

Went kayak fishing today from Lavonia South
Had to work a little to catch my shad only 1 or 2 a throw but they were 4-7 inches apiece.
Decided to check out some of my waypoints on way to dam with a slab on bottom and 3 jigs with 9 inch spacing.
Saw a few places with fish but need to do a lot of work on getting back to and relocating spots. Caught one nice bass on way to dam.
Fished a couple of places on the dam this afternoon.
Caught one on worm and 5 on cut shad.
Seemed to like a couple of 2 inch shad on hook with bellies sliced open but I did not have many.
Cut up the other shad into small strips.
Was slow but managed to catch 6 cats 15-19 inches.
Caught one on a 7 inch shad out behind the kayak. Something must have been nibbling on it for a while as the cat was not big enough to have put the whole shad in its mouth.
Cats had a pretty light bite again today. Really had to watch my floats as would rarely see anything happen on the rod.
Several something would take float under for just a bit then come back up. Early tried setting hook when saw go under but nothing there. Later waited hope they would take the bait. usually just ate the bait without taking the hook.
Overall a little slow but a really nice day out on the water with light winds and pleasant temps.

Went kayak fishing from Lavonia South last night.
Had some trouble locating shad but once I found them had a good variety of sizes and plenty for the evening
Headed to the dam to do some catfishing.
Did not see many fish on way to dam or along the dam. Went to a few locations before I saw any fish.
Bite was very light. Mabe just cause the float to rock or go under quickly once and bait was gone.
If they took the hook, just stayed where they were.
Most of the time just stealing bait.
Tried different size shad, differrent parts of shad, different depths and stubby's
Going to a few locations managed to bring in 3 cats and 1 bass.
The people I spoke with on the lake and at the ramp indicated they were having a tough time also.
With cooler temps, being wet from paddling, and a little wind I can see needing to start dressing for fall now.
The wind died down a little after sunset, stars were showing under a clear sky and there was a bright big moon in the sky.
Great night to be on the water.

Went kayak fishing from Lavonia South this afternoon.
Tough time finding shad. 2-3 throws for 1 large shad.
Got lucky one throw and ended up with about 40 small shad. One poll off the back with large shad under a float in deeper water
Finally got enough bait to head out to the dam for some catfishing,
Started off with worms on one poll and small shad with belly sliced on another.
Something kept stealling bait. Bobber would go under for a moment then nothing.
Tried setting hook when happend after a couple times but nothing there.
When decided to change places started reeling in one rod and there was a bass on it. No sign of anything on the float before hand.
Wound up with a 15" LMB
Tried several places looking for some bites but only got 2 bites working down the dam.
1st one was able to fight for a bit then nothing. When brought line in, looked like mabey it was a gar that cut through the line.
2nd bite was a 16' catfish.
Getting time to come home so changed strategy after tring big and small shad pieces. They were not biting anything.
Cut big shad into parts and put the head on the big poll.
Decided to let wind blow me down the face of the dam, perfect speed .4 -.6 mph.
Kept rethrowing large poll out deep ahead of the kayak.
Left fly rod line out behind the kayak as I drifted with cut up shad piece under a float.
Another poll would throw far ahead close to the dam.
When would catch up to baits ahead of me would repeat.
One bite on the shad head set off the clicker for a couple of seconds. Stopped when I picked rod up and did not start again.
Nothing on other poll throwing ahead of the boat but did loose the bait to something a couple of times.
Managed to get 2 more cats on the one poll trailing behind the kayak. Also 1 good bite that got off before I brought it up to the boat.
Being out on the water on such a beautiful day made it all worthwhile with a couple of fish as a bonus.

Went kayak fishing out of Lavonia South this afternoon/evening.
Had a really tough time catching any shad. Wore myself out for a few small shad and one large one.
Fortunately I bought some small frozen ones for insurance on the way.
Decided to troll on way to dam. One rod out with small umbrella rig and one with 4" sassy shad trailing a small road runner. No bites.
Did not see many fish on way to dam or while going along the dam.
At my fist spot put the large shad on my catfish pole and threw out under a float.
While getting other poles ready to catfish with looked around for float and could not find it. Saw line going into water and set the hook
Hooked a 14" LMB on 7 to 8 inch shad.
Fished several locations with shad on one pole and stubbys on another along the dam.
One place I caught 2 nice eating size cats. First on shad then after putting on stringer and before I could get rebaited, had another on the stubbys.
These were the only bites I had on these baits today.
Nothing else took the large shad so I cut in half and did not get any bites on the head or tail section.
Coming back to the dock swapped out the sassy shad with a jointed xrap trailing a small rooster tail on one pole.
Still had small umbrella rig on another.
No bites on way back in but did see several fish in 25 fow.
Wind died down as it got later and was a very nice day.
Saw several groups of ducks on the lake today.
Great to be back on the water again.

Fished Lavonia South last night from my kayak.
Could not get a single shad while throwing my cast net.
Headed out towards the dam with a small umbrella rig on one pole and jointed xrap on another.
Saw several fish but no bites.
Worked along face of dam in 25fow looking for schools of fish. Would lower frozen shad and stubbys down when saw some but no bites.
Started slowly working way back in shallower water hitting my best spots along the way.
Saw a few fish but only got one bit on the shad but got off pretty quickly.
Decided I was started to get a little cool and pretty late so put the jointed xrap on and slow trolled back in 7-9 feet of water.
Not a single bite.
Good news was starting out the weather was warmer than it has been lately and there was hardly any wind whole time.
Very pretty sunset and with the glassy smooth water very pretty lights on the water after dark.

Fished Lavonia south again this afternoon from my kayak.
Bought some minnows and worms on way to the lake.
Setup to try to catch some of those fish I am seeing in20-30fow 15-25 feet down.
One pole had a mudder minnow, 1/16 rooster tail and 1/32 jig head with small minnow body.
One pole had a crappie jig with live minnows,
One pole had a deep diving tail dancer trailing a 1/16 oz rooster tail.
Trolled in 25-20fow on way to dam. Several spots with fish that were not over any structure.
Threw out marker buoy and would slowly paddle around the areas.
Did same thing working along the dam. Only managed one bite and brought in a white bass.
Decided to try my favorite spots on way back for some catfish. Tried shad, worms, jigs and minnows.
Did not get a single bite even at a spot I had chummed up last night. Did see occaissional fish in 10-12fow not much else.
It got late and I was a little tired from all the paddling so trolled on the way back in the deeper water.
Was constantly over a few fish all the way back but none really schooled up. Not a single bite.
Nice warmer day and wind was not that bad today. Really pretty out today, hope you were able to enjoy it.

Went kayak fishing out of Lavonia South this afternoon/night.
Could not find any shad around the ramp but I had some frozen small and medium shad so ok on the bait front.
Had one pole with 3 jigs spaced about a foot apart and various sizes/colors. Would fish this under the boat when cross over a school of fish or structure holding fish.
One rod with a small umbrella rig or jointed xrap trolling out to dam and back.
One rod with deep diving tail dancer trailing small rooster tail trolling to dam and back.
Got one 13+" white bass on the rooster tail on way out to dam.
Paddled along dam at a couple of different depths looking for catfish. Stopped at a coupel of different spots and put out both medium and small shad. No bites.
I saw a lot of fish from 12 - 30 feet but could not figure out how to get them to bite. Might have to try some minnows and small plastics next time.
Even though I only had the one fish, it was really nice to be back on the water again. Very light winds and mild temps made for pleasant paddling.
After dark, lake was smooth as glass with bright full moon so I did not even use my headlamp.
Hardly any fog so all the lights around the lake were reflecting on the surface.
Really peaceful and pretty night.

Went kayak fishing out of Lavonia south Saturday afternoon/evening.
Did not see many fish out and only a couple of small schools that were not near any structure.
Tried trolling spinner baits, jigs, slabs, rooster tails.
Tried minnows, shad and jigs when did find a few fish.
Not a single bite.
The few anglers I talked to had similar results.

Went kayak fishing out of Colin Point this afternoon. Decided to try fishing along the tires and then out on the lake side of the tires a ways.
Was pretty windy so was either being blown off the tires or along the tires on the windword side. Saw very few fish in the area, just a couple of singles not related to any structure. I was mainly looking for some cats so I had out cut shad on one a bit above the bottom, worm under a float on second poll and jigs tipped with crappie nibbles on another pole in case ran across some crappie.. Switched it over to jointer xrap later. Did not get a single bite today. Hadn't been out in my kayak for a while and I could tell I was a bit rusty on paddling and my fishing. Good to be out on the water though, trying to take advantage of every chance I can get which is few these days.
I did see a couple of other boats only one of which had any luck and they caught a blue on a jugline while bass fishing.

Tried kayak fishing of Colin Point again this afternoon.
Tried fishing to the east of the tires. Trolling jointed xrap behind a slab to get it down near bottom on way out and when moving around.
Also would cast all directions around boat when stopped.
Put one pole out with cut shad a little off the bottom and another with stink bait a little off the bottom.
Tried a few places I saw fish but not bites. switched xrap out for various jigs, spoon, rooster tail.
Ended up goin back to and along the tires on way back to ramp.
Not a single bite today.

Went kayak fishing at Colin Park this morning.
Fished the cove and started off trolling back and forth along shore and working out looking for fish but did not see any or get any bites.
Then decided to go try out various groups of trees. Used gulp worm on one rod and Cut shad on another.
Could not find fish or get a bite.
Decided to anchor off the brush line in the shallow water. Would throw the shad under a float and let slowly float down along the brush.
Was also working a rooster tail at same time all around the kayak.
Still no bites.
Finished off the day trolling back to my take out spot. Not s single bite today.
i only saw a handfull of fish on the finder and they were single not near any structure.
A little windier than I had hoped today but not strong enough to cause problems paddling.
Was a little warmer in the morning than I expected also.
No fish but good to be back on the water.

Got to tell you I have fished with guys that catch a nice 4 pound fish then look at it and then announce they caught a 8. If I announce an 8 it has been put on the scale on my boat. Nothing wrong with getting excited but before folks report an 8 or 9 they should at least put it on the scale.

Lake is 8 foot high having raised 7 foot this week. Corps is not releasing any water either. All corps boat ramps are closed.
I went to Colin Park which is still open and fished back in the cove. Tried worm and studbbys under float near trees and brush line for catfish.
Tried jointed xrap, jointed minnow traiiling a plastic crappie minnow along brushline and over submerged brush. Also tried a couple different jigs over brush.
I had one bite on the stubbys but did not take the hook.
Weather was great with winds < 5mph and was dressed perfect so I did not get sweaty loading/unloading kayak and was very comfortable on the water and loading up at dusk..
Would have welcomed some fish but they were practicing social distancing.
Just a super day to be out on the water.

Hope everyone is staying safe, would hate to have some of my online friends get this horrible virus.

Lake is up probably another 2 foot from last week even though the corps says the same level.
Went back to Colin Park to do some catfishing today. One rod with stubbys, one with shad and one with worm.
Worked trees moving after 5-10 minutes to new spot. Managed oen 16' catfish on the stubbys and probably some small perch pecking on the worm.
After 4 1/2 hours decided to go explore a bit and troll with jointed xrap. Managed to catch one white bass over 14" and kept moving around. When I caught the second I heard the splasging in the water as bass were hitting minnows on the surface. Threw beyond them and managed to catch 16 white bass all 12-15' in under an hour. Catching a nice white bass on lite gear in just a few casts was a blast. Great way to end a long spell with no fish and a beautiful day on the water.

Lots of people out at Coillin Park today just getting outdoors where they are not near anyone.
Saw a couple families out with the kids fishing for perch from the shore.
They all managed to catch a few.

I guess I'll start contributing to give back everything I take form here smirk Went out Sunday from noon-6p and launched my kayak from east bank at the Lucas Rd bridge, and went up into White Rock creek. Didn't really plan on catching fish just wanted to get the yak out for the first time of 2020 and weather was choice. Saw a couple other kayaks and people fishing the bank. Fish were being caught at the bridge near columns 2-4, but I just wanted to check out the creek. Caught sandies in the creek on 3" paddle tail. Lake is still flooded so lots of action deep in cover, but still saw action in the middle. Saw 3 boats in the creek reporting mixed results. Couldn't verify any crappie were there, but sandies were definitely feeding all over that creek.

Next time I get out I'll take the electronics, just bought a Helix 7 G2 that was on sale at Bass Pro.

Went back to Colin Park again. Baed on high water mark from last week, water was down 2.5-43 ft from last Sunday.
Water was flat so worked along brushlines with jointed xrap and keeping eye out for any activity on the water.
Threw over any activity I saw and brought back through but only had 2 small white bass today one right at start and one almostat end.
Tried some catfishing around several trees and along one shore line just outside of brushline. Not only could I not find any cats on my finder, I could not get a bite either. Still good to be out on the water.

Went kayak fishing out of Lavonia South, only open Corps ramp on the lake, yesterday afternoon/evening.
Place was a zoo, have only seen more people there once and the dock was avaliable then.
Not having the dock available made it a real mess for those with motorboats. Sure glad I had my kayak.
Headed off toward the dam trolling a jointed x rap on one pole and large rooster tail trailing a sassy shad on another in about 15-20ft.
Managed to catch 2 small white bass on the jointed xrap.
Did not see any action on the top of the water whole time I was out.
Had my cast net with me but did not run across any shad.
I worked the dam looking for flooded structure or schools of fish.
Going toward the outlet in about 8-10 feet and coming back in 15-25 feet.
Stopped at a couple of my spots from last year to try drifting worm or stink bait under float at different heights but nothing.
Had something pull my float under 2x but when brought back in whole worm still there.
Left the rod I was catfishing with in the water with worm on it while trolling back. Actually caught 2 white bass on the trebble hook with worm it trolling.
Put a small jointed minnow on as got dark and moved close to dam. Got several bites but was probably going to fast to hook the small fish.
Tried fishing the worm and also lures along the brush around where small island was on way back to ramp but no bites.
Not a great day of fishing, but really nice weather and first time out this year without my waders on.
Really great to be out on the open water even though the lot at ramp was overflowing, very few boats along the dam.
Happy Easter to all
Everyone stay safe.

Went kayak fishing out of Lavonia South this afternoon/evening.
Not too much traffic at ramp so threw my cast net there for shad.
Caught one medium size shad first throw then no more. My first in a castnet this year.
Caught a handful of 4" white bass that I threw back.
Headed off towards the dam to see if I could get a catfish.
Trolled the jointed xrap on the way and caught 2 white bass 11-12 inches on the way.
Slowly drifted along the face of the dam with shad out on 2 poles and throwing various lures around the boat.
Worked way back along dam face and then along brush up to island where I put out the catfish rods again.
Finally trolled back to the ramp.
No bites after the initial 2 white bass.
Lot at ramp had several vehicles in it but no lines for boaters waiting for the ramp.
Very light winds today, which made for a very nice sunset on the water.
The few boaters I talked to all caught white bass today.

Went kayak fishing out of Lavonia South this afternoon/evening. Got there after the rain and out on the water as sun started poking threw making a very nice day.
Found a handful of shad with the cast net and several small white bass I threw back.
Trolled small umbrella rig on one poll and jointed xrap on another in 15-20 feet and slowly worked way towards dam.
When saw fish threw out marker buoys and slowly drifted through. Also put out one poll with part of medium shad under a float.
When got to dam, put out large shad a little above the water and one pole with medium shad under a float.
Worked along face of dam a ways and back in 10-15feet. Early on drifting .2-.4mph. Once wind picked up wend out to deeper water then let wind blow me back towards dam as I slowly paddled down dam.
Would also throw out the jointed xrap while drifting. Managed one bite on the medium shad under the float in about 8feet which turned out to be a 13' white bass.
After fishing wind a while changed back to trolling back to island and tried some cat fishing around the island while worked lures around the area.
No bites other than the one white bass today.
Did see a few fish 15-30feet along the dam, just could not get any to bite today.

Went kayak fishing out of Lavonia South yesterday afternoon/evening.
Place was a madhouse with the warmer temps more jet skis and ski boats were at the ramp.
Seemed everyone wanted to get off the lake about the time I got my Kayak loaded up and to the ramp. Have never had to wait to launch my kayak before.
It was all worth it as it was a nice warm day with mild winds.
Did a lot of trolling yesterday and managed to catch 5 white bass on the jointed xrap.
Took my fly rod and tried fishing grasshopper pattern and popper around trees/brush and over flooded vegetation. No luck there.
Put out some range cubes then came back to them a couple hours later. Marked off the baited area with buoys and tried some Stubbys.
Managed one small catfish. and then hooked into the line of the marker buoy. By time I got it in, treble hook was entangled with line wrapped around buoy also.
Tried the fly rod with small hook and worm in same area. Caught a handful of perch.
Also hooked into a larger fish which put up quite a fight on my 3 wt. Forgot I had not swapped out to a stronger tippet so after fighting for a while it broke off. Was pretty fun while it lasted though.
Things are gradually changing for the better near the dam.

Went kayak fishing out of Lavonia South again Sunday 4/26.
Ramp just keeps getting crazier as more jet skis and boaters keep increasing in number.
Hope that Corps will open up some more ramps to relieve the overcrowding. Maybe the governors directives will help a little there.
I tried trolling a bit but no action. Saw some brush just sticking up above water in about 6-8 ft. Decided to break out the fly rod.
Put a size 6 hook and worm on and continuously caught small large mouth and white bass for about 2 hours.
Caught one 3" catfish which got revenge on me when pulled out hook and a handful of perch a bit bigger than hand size.
Decided to troll around a bit and see if I could catch something a little bigger. Had jointed xrap on one pole and fly rod with a white meat whistle I had tied on other side.
Managed to catch one 10-11" white bass on the meat whistle.
Baited the spot I was at last Thursday and came back to it a little before dark.
One catfish rod with an 1/2-3/4 inch strip of perch out where it drops off to 12-16 feet. One light rod with either stubbies or small piece of perch over baited area.
Put a 12lb leader on my 3wt fly rod, #6 hook and some worm. Not long after hit water the big fish took it again.
Fought the fish for over 20 minutes. Could keep it from swimming away and was able to move it to side of kayak where it would not tangle in anchor line but could not get it to come up.
Finally got a brief view of it and knew I would need the net.
Reached back for the net and it tangled on the handle and drag wheel of my abu 6500 reel.
With one hand fighting the fish and the other trying to get net and tangled rod into my lap I succeeded only to now just have a mass of green net wrapped up in handle and drag wheel such that you could barely see the handle or reel.
Finally got the fish up to the surface and guess it was 28-30 inch buffalo. It rolled over and as i reached down to grab it in mouth it did one final act of flipping around which broke the line.
Next time out I go with 20# line and a rubber net positioned so I will not pull it into my baitcaster.
Afterwards began cutting the net off my abu. Shortly thereafter, one of the lines I was throwing toward baited area got tangled in the line with larger perch strip.
That pole was thrown the other direction from the baited area so knew a fish had to have taken my line up this direction.
Quicly got my line untangled and started reeling. I discovered I did have a cat on it and it turned out to be a 7# blue cat.
Decided it was time to go and discovered that somehow I had lost my minnow bucket with a few perch still inside.
It was dark so turned my light on high and searched for a bit downwind but could not find it.
Trolled back to ramp leaving the larger perch strip out a little ways behind the kayak and rooster tail on another rod but no bites..
Even with a long steak of few fish or even bites, 2020 has had a couple really great fishing days so far and I am encouraged about what is ahead.

Went kayak fishing out of Lavonia South again yesterday afternoon/evening.
Ramp was very full but nothing like the crazienss of last week or weekend.
Nice warm temps and mild winds made for an enjoyable day on the water.
Started out trolling with jointed xrap on one pole, yumbrella rig on another and meat whistle fly on fly rod.
Caught 3 on the meat whistle, nothing on the others.
Tried different crank baits, rooster tail, jigs and slabs still could not get bites even though I was seeing several fish on finder.
Switched over to a silver spoon, about 2.5 - 3 inches, and I caught 6 white bass 10- 12" in about 30 minutes.
I actually stopped to try to catch some perch for some catfishing and to bait my spot to try to land the big fish I have been battling.
Forgot to fill up on the range cubes but put out a couple of handfuls.
Caught several small white bass on worm with fly rod near brush but could not find any perch.
Went back to my baited spot and discovered I had left my headlight in the truck. Fortunately the moon was shining bright and with my finder and light on flags I could see my marker buoy, rig and bait up hooks.
Managed 3 small catfish and some more small white bass on fly rod with worm.
Did not see my big fish, he is probably resting up for the bit battle but I have my net and have learned a few things.
Before heading back looked towards ramp and there were several boats queued up waiting to get off the water.
Trolled back to ramp but did not have any bites.
Another great day on the water and fishing continues to improve.

Kayak fished out of Lavonia South this afternoon/evening.
Cooler temps kept many of the jet skis and skiers and pleasure boaters home today. Ramp was busy but not crazy chaotic.
Big news, Got a buffalo on my 3wt fly rod right at 25 inches and 11 lbs.
[Linked Image]

Started out fishing for white bass with spoon on one rod and meat whistle with small split shot on the fly rod.
Managed to get 11 staying on edge where goes from 7-8 ft down to 12 t. caught 3 on fly rod and rest on the spoon.
Added a stinger hook to the meal ticket and did not see near as many short strikes.
Baited the spot hooked into the large buffalo last couple outings with range cubes and came back in about 1 1/2 hours.
Then went to try to catch some perch for a little catfishing.
Found some flooded bushes and caught 4 good size perch and 5 small white bass on the fly rod using worms.
Cut up one perch and put out a 1/2 inch strip on my catfishing rod where drops off to about 12 ft. Then let out line as I went over to the baited location and put on the clicker.
Caught 1 small cat and a couple of white bass with 3 wt fly rod, size 6 hook and worm.
Down to my last section of worm and no sign of any big buffaloes. Decide to throw a bit off to the side and something gently takes the worm but does but does not swim off.
Slowly increased tension on line and it took off. Went up to the surface and made quite a commotion. A good size buffalo but not so big I could not fight it. I could also get this one up off the bottom without any problems.
After a few minutes, fish was pretty worn out so brought up close and tried to get into the net.
Fish kept finding new strength when it would get close to the kayak or net.
Finally managed to get it to the kayak and convinced it to swim into the net.
It was not the big one but definitely a good time on the 3 w fly rod.

Kayak fished out of Lavonia South last night.
A more reasonable amount of folks at the ramp than I have seen in a while.
Trolled area for white bass and caught 6 and a nice crappie on silver spoon.
Used range cubes to bait for carp/buffalo. Came back and managed to hook into one on my 3wt fly rod. When it saw the net and kayak made a mad dash to bottom and tangled in brush, and old fishing line.
Managed to catch several shad and tried using them for some catfishing after dark. Did not have any luck.

Went kayak fishing for a bit out of Lavonia South yesterday evening/nigh after the wind let up a bit.
Managed to catch a couple large shad with castenet.
Started of trolling with spoons. Caught a couple white bass, one over 13", and a 16" catfish.
Then slowly trolled to dam and started down dam looking for catfish in about 12', Stopped at a couple of places to fish with small piece of cut shad on one pole under a float and larger piece in deeper water. Managed to catch 1 keeper crappie on the shad. No luck on catfish.
Finished up night trolling back to dock with jointed xrap and dragging larger shad.

Took a chance on the weather yesterday afternoon and went kayak fishing at Lavonia South.
Figured could get a little fishing in before front passed, wait out the high winds and heavy rain, then get a little bit more in afterwards.
As it turned out missed all the rain and the winds got stronger but not near point I could not control my kayak.
Decided to just troll for white bass and maybe try for some perch with my fly rod.
Fished between ramp and dam before front and managed 2 white bass. One on spoon and one on jointed xrap which was 13".
My finder was not showing many fish in the area either.
When winds picked up stayed closer to shore and saw an area where the water was calm down by the small island.
Went down there till wind died down some and did some fly fishing for perch and caught several and a white bass.
When wind let up,decided to troll to the railroad bridge and back. Saw an coupel fish surfacing and cast to them but no bites.
When made it back close to ramp decided to try little cove just north of ramp. Trolled around once then decided to try for some perch with fly rod.
Caught a few more perch and all of a sudden the surface of the water a little ways away just exploded with fish chasing bait.
Threw out my spoon and managed to catch a few before they left the area and I could not spot them anymore.

Kayak fished out of Lavonia South yesterday evening.
Wind was stronger than forecast and since coming from north built up 1' waves.
Could not find any shad.
With higher winds and no shad decided to troll just a bit for white bass then catch some perch and go catfishing.
Only caught 1 white bass while trolling.
Managed to see lots of fish in deeper water but they did not like rooster tails, spoons, deep crank baits, jigs, slabs or worms.
Found some submerged brush and tried for perch using worm. Waves made it hard to tell what was happening but managed to eventually catch 2 perch.
Cut small portion of perch off and put under a float on 2 polls. Managed to catch 5 channel cats up to 16".

I kayak fished out of Lavonis South again yesterday afternoon/evening.
Lots of boats on the water and parking lot overfull, but not chaotic at ramp.
Started off trolling for white bass between ramp and dam. Saw a few, missed a few hits and only managed to catch one.
Decided to try poppers on fly rods around trees and brush but nothing showed any interest.
Since I was not able to find any shad with my cast net decided to fish flooded brush with worm and managed to catch a handful once I found them.
Now that I had bait I could go try to do some catfishing.
Used cut perch under floats on a light pole and on 3wt fly rod and action was pretty constant.
Frequently had bit on other pole while getting another fish unhooked and on stringer and trying to getting ready to throw out again.
Managed to catch 7 catfish 16-20 inches.
Really fun to catch these on the light tackle.
Put out the smallest perch about 5 inches on my catfishing rod under a float in deeper water but never had any bites on it.

Forgot to add the picture from Saturday evening.
Nothing impressive, but a couple good meals and mighty fun on lite tackle.
Plus first good catfish outing of the year.

Kayak fished out of Lavonia South yesterday evening. Very surprised there was hardly anyone there even though temps were warm with light wind.
Managed to easily find some shad with cast net.
Began trolling for white bass but came across an area in 14-16ft with high fish concentration. I threw out buoys and made several passes back and forth across the area. No bites.
Then decided to stop a short distance away and fan cast around buoys with slow retrieve.
Still no bites so tried small hook and worm and got one small cat and a crappie.
Switched over to some crappie jigs and may have got some bites but could not hook them. There was something in the area which would catch my hook frequently hanging me up.
Decided to go do some catfishing.
Put out an umbrella rig with large jig, money minnows and paddle tail swim baits as I paddled across deeper water towards the dam. No bites though saw several fish.
Used shad on light pole and 3 wt fly rod under a float. Also about 1/2 of 5-6 inch shad on my ugly stick under float in deeper water.
There was something that would pull float under for a bit but never get hooked. Frequently stealing bait.
Managed to catch 4 catfish 18-20 inches and a couple of smaller ones.
Saw several gar in the area and they liked coming up almost to the kayak at night.
Slower than last outing but managed to bring home enough for a couple of meals.

Thanks.
Got a leak in my kayak and my kayak has been in the shop since my last outing, mid month.
They found the leak and should have it fixed soon.
Dying to get back on the water.
I have a red/blue/black kayak with 2 flags.
You are always welcome to say hi if you see me.
Enjoy meeting people and hearing their stories.

My kayak is fixed and I got to go out fishing out of Lavonia South last night.
Found a few shad and a carp with my cast net but it took some work.
Decided to troll to dam and do some catfishing.
I had my first catfish hooked about 30 seconds after throwing the line out.
A small front came through about sunset and I caught 3 pretty quickly.
Ended up the night keeping 7 cats 16-21" and throwing a couple smaller ones back.
The cats liked the shad but did not show any interest in cut up carp.
Caught one drum I kept for a while to possibly use as bait but threw it back.
Must have been several gar in the area as something was stealing a lot of bait either seeing the cork quickly go under then come back up or slowly move across the water with nothing there when set the hook.
Put 1/2 of a 6" shad and heads out in deeper water. Something came and tore them up a bit only setting off the clicker once but never took the hook.
Spent a little time throwing a 3" swimtail bait with a sassy swimmer hook while waiting for bites. Got a few bites one which almost yanked the rod out of my hand but nothing took the hook.
Was great to be back on the water again.
Wishing everyone a safe and enjoyable 4th of July!

Decided to go back to Lavonia South for some more kayak fishing this afternoon.
Was really hot out mid afternoon so waited a bit to go out there.
Was pleasantly surprised there was plenty of parking available and ramp was not swamped especially since they have the boat ramp taking up about half the ramp.
By the time I got my kayak all loaded up and down to the water I was soaked and ready to get off the pavement onto the water.
Realized I left my paddle in the truck and had to rest in the shade on way to get it. It was smokin hot on the asphalt.
Once I got out on the water much cooler and just enough breeze to make it pleasant.
Tried finding some shad for catfishing but all I could get was a really small catfish. Hate catching those in the cast net.
Decided to go catch some perch for bait first.
Marked my location and had a couple of bites and noticed something on other side of kayak.
Started fishing over there and got several perch and a 16" catfish on size 8 hook.
I have always let worm sink to bottom and leave or move real slowly.
At one point after casting thought all my worm was gone so brought line in pretty quickly. Caught a perch.
Tried again and that was what they were looking forward to today.
Once loaded up with a few perch took off to catfish by the dam.
Got bait cut up and my poles out and got just a little bit of fishing in when noticed the wind starting to pick up.
Wind picked up pretty good for over an hour. Strong enough I would have no chance paddling.
Fortunately I was safely anchored and decided to just wait it out and try to do what fishing I could.
Drifted cut perch and carp under float then would bring in and repeat.
No cats on perch or carp today.
Wind was still pretty strong when loud thunder and some lightning started.
Fortunately the wind let up a bit, I brought in the anchor, angled kayak toward shore so wind would help me get to it and then followed the shoreline back to the ramp.
By the time I got back, thunder and lightning was over and wind had started to die down.
I was just too worn out from fighting the wind on way back to go out again.
That is 2 days in a row Front or small storm pops up with nothing about it in the forecast. Even checked the weather radar during storm and nothing even close.
I am thinking about going back out Sunday afternoon - evening. If you are thinking of being on the lake be prepared for a small storm smile

Went kayak fishing at Lavonia South Sunday afternoon/evening.
Managed to get a few shad with my cast net catching one every couple throws.
Decided to start off with some fly fishing for perch but did not have any luck or see any on my finder.
Decided to troll a bit for white bass with an umbrella rig on one pole with large jig and swimtail baits and spoon on another.
Got a bite on the umbrella rig that seemed like a nice fish when I brought it up had 3 white bass on it, 2 over 12". First time to ever catch 3 at once.

A little later hooked into something else on the spoon and had a 24" gar.

About this time the edge of a storm came by. Thunder and lightning off to the souht and west and winds picked up a bit but not that much.
After trolling for a while with 1 more white bass decided to go do some catfishing using cut up shad.
Would catch 1 or 2 at a spot then after no bites for a while would move down a ways.
I managed to catch 3 cats over 16" and 4 that were a little under.
I would frequently see float move or qucikly go under and back up but have nothing there and loosing my bait.
I also managed to catch a drum which was stealing my bait.
After storm passed water became smooth as glass.
Trolled a jointed xrap on way back to ramp but no bites.
A very good day of fishing and nice evening on the lake.

Can anyone validate that the Lavon Elm Creek ramp & Little Ridge ramps are open? I cannot get any info from the Lavon office cause no one answers their phone.

Went kayak fishing out of Lavonia South Sunday afternoon/evening.
Planned to troll for white bass a bit then go catfishing.
Got all the shad I needed 1st throw of the cast net.
Headed out to troll for white bass and caught 12 in about the same area.
Would decide it was time to go catfish and would catch another white bass.
Ended up evening with 2 poles out for catfish. Started off trying a powerbait swimtail bait when would see disturbance on water, no bites. Switched over to jointed xrap, still no bites.
Finally connected throwing 1/4 oz rooster tail managing to catch 5 more white bass.
Managed to catch 2 catfish on cut shad. Gave what I had left to those fishing from the ramp when I got back.
Had one double catch on octopus rig on the 3" rage swimmer and large green/white jig.
All others were on the spoon or rooster tail..
No storms today, very little wind and probably my best day of fishing this year.

Another great day kayak fishing out of Lavonia South.
Had to work for the shad but managed to get a few.
Trolled for a little with a spoon and managed to catch 7 white bass
Then took off to do some catfishing.
Managed to catch 9 catfish 16-21 inches on cut shad.
Cats were not very agressive, light bites and would not keep the cut shad in their mouth.
Managed 7 cats on my first shad about 8".
Threw a swimtail soft plastic with underspin while waiting for catfish bites. got one bite but did not take hook.
Switched over to jointed xrap and managed to catch a nice crappie.
Trolled back to ramp but no more fish.
