Sorry for your family's Loss Billy! I’ve had family go to rehab in their youth over this devil stuff! I see it in the ER and it’s very sad. Some ppl I’ve seen in the ER you’d never believe it would be them doing it. It’s a sad evil drug that gets ahold of the user very quickly

Sorry to hear about your grandson. My cousin died of a heroine addiction when he was 23. He had everything in life going for him before he got addicted. It was a very fast downward spiral that ended his life all too soon. He came from a very wealthy family, but all the money in the world could not save him from his heroin addiction.

I can't believe how ignorant I am on just how bad this problem is in our society today, I figured meth was the big problem.

I have a regular customer who regularly brings a few "co-workers" into the restaurant, and he did again on Friday of last week. I knew he was in the medical field, but had no idea what he did, so I asked. He and the others, who were from all across the US, are part of a medical taskforce group that has been created to try to figure out a way to curb this opioid addiction that has America in it's grip. When I asked him why they weren't looking at the meth problem, he laughed and said meth is only a tiny fraction of the problem that opioids are. I was stunned, and had zero clue.

I said Heroin? He said heroin is the last step, it's the pharmaceuticals that get them hooked, then they move to heroin and they're stuck when they get there. Not making light of the problem, but I had absolutely no clue how bad this is.

Prayers for your family Billy, I'm sorry you had to experience this.

man, so sorry to hear that.

One of my best friends from middle school in Plano before I moved to OK, died of a heroin OD September of our 9th grade year. I remember getting the call at the Tulsa State Fair. We weren't even 16 years old at that point which says something about the problem back there. Sad deal

Tman, you are not the only one. This epidemic has been rapidly escalating for several years. Here is some data from the CDC, published in Aug, 2017:

Drug overdose deaths continue to increase in the United States.
From 1999 to 2016, more than 630,000 people have died from a drug overdose.
Around 66% of the more than 63,600 drug overdose deaths in 2016 involved an opioid.
In 2016, the number of overdose deaths involving opioids (including prescription opioids and illegal opioids like heroin and illicitly manufactured fentanyl) was 5 times higher than in 1999.
On average, 115 Americans die every day from an opioid overdose

Billy, I'm sorry to have hijacked the thread about your grandson, but I do believe this is a serious issue that every American needs to be aware of.

Prayers for your family, that is awful to hear. My biggest fear for my young children is them getting on drugs.

I have not. But have a close friend who lost his son to it a few months ago. Breaks my heart for your family, Billy.

I have no words Red.....saying I’m sorry and condolences do nothing in a time like this. Praying for y’all.

Have an in law that’s hooked on hydrocodone. It’s bad and when I say anything about it I’m met with, “How dare you?, she’s in pain and her doctor gives her the prescription, he’s a doctor, have some remorse....”

I get that pain sucks, I have daily pain, but I’m not going to take a fist full of pills every single day even if the doc says to. Son tore up a knee in football and they immediately prescribed a high dose of hydrocodone for him....he was 14 at the time. I laughed at the doc and told him there’s no way my kid is taking that stuff....”Sir, he’s in pain!!”
Yeah I get that, he’s not taking that [censored]...I swear they thought I was crazy.

Watch the doctors fellas lots of them are to blame for this epidemic.....

I have a friend that keeps Narcan handy because his son won't get off the H. He actually had to use it on him about 6 months ago.

Fentanyl is what is killing the heroin users.

Very sorry for your loss. It is an epidemic we see firsthand on a regular basis. Sad part is you actually revive some of them just so they can turn around and do it again.
