Im looking to get a different rod. One I can use for lipless cranks exclusively. Whats would you use? Im thinking a 6,9-7,0 moderate medium action. Thoughts?

I really like the Cara Reacation 7' CCB-4-17MR composite cranker. I prefer it for both lipless and squarebill.

Your Jig Rod if you're fishing grass.

One of the better rods out there for me is the Dobyns 734C rod. It is an all around rod that you can use for many things, but I like it for it's tip and back bone, BOTH. If you are fishing 3/4 or 1 oz traps, i would go up to the 735C rod. But if you are fishing 1/4 to 1/2 oz, the 734 is a GREAT rod for that. What size traps are you throwing, anyway? THAT would make a huge difference in what is recommended. Hope this helps. Tight lines, keep safe and good luck.

I use a Dobyns 765cb graphite or for close quarters a 705cb graphite.

The best I've found is a Diawa Steez 701 XBD( I think....I'll have to dig it out if the boat to verify the numbers). It's a 7' 1" medium heavy/moderate. Has a soft tip and a good backbone for ripping it through grass. Soft tip keeps the hooks from ripping loose.
Eat. Sleep. Fish.

Contact Impulse Rods, they are building a 7'6 Med Heavy that is similar to an old Castaway trap rod. The guys dug around and found a blank to match the action of the old one, it is a launcher and has enough tip to not rip out but still rip through grass. Great rod, but I just suck at fishing!

I use a Dobyns Champion 705cb for lipless crank baits, squarebills and jerbaits. I love it and wouldn't change a thing about it. I just ordered a Dobyns Fury Series 705CB as I've heard really good thing about it too. I plan on using it exclusively my lipless and/or topwater rod. The Fury Rod retails for only $110.

I see that many prefer a medium heavy over a medium. I think I mostly use the 1/2oz traps.

OK, then the rods recommended will do that for you. Some lean a little more towards the heavy side and some a little more to the lighter side, so depends if you ever throw a 1/4 oz or not. Both Dobyns rods are rated from 1/4 to 1 oz, so you should be good with either, regardless of the 1/4 oz or 1/2 oz. Hope this helps. Tight lines, keep safe and good luck.
