Last week my oldest brother called me to see if I could take him and his grandson out for a little crappie fishing. I told him that I could but that it had to be Saturday morning and I had to be done by about 11:30 because I had promised a buddy that I would take him Saturday afternoon. I really wasn't sure to expect from the lake as some areas had received anywhere from 8" up to 14" of rain and the winds were expected to blow pretty good. I told him that I really wanted to check things out and if they got here Friday afternoon I would take them out after work. We got to the lake about 6:15 and hit the first spot in short order. After a quick tutorial with Ayden he dropped his first jig down and bam he was reeling in his first ever crappie. He dropped down again and before long he had his second crappie. He caught on pretty quickly and by the time the evening was over we had managed to put 17 nice crappie in the box. Saturday morning came and we got to the lake around 8:00. As we left the dock I told Ayden that I was going to catch the first fish. Well, he had other plans and on his first drop had our first fish of the morning. The bite was much slower today and trying to keep a 6yr old focused was a chore in itself. We did a lot of moving to scratch out 12 keepers but Ayden did manage to catch a 14.5" slab shortly before we headed in. My buddy John showed up around 12:45 and I told him I didn't feel very good about the afternoon. It seems like we spent more time moving that actually fishing but we managed to put 33 in the box. I had been hounding my longtime friend Gary about getting me some grapes for some homemade jelly and while John and I were out I received a text from him that showed a 5gal bucket full of grapes. I immediately called him and said if you bring them to me in the morning we can go fishing and to bring his pops. Gary's dad is partly responsible for my love of fishing. They would always invite me when they had an open seat. The really cool thing is that when I mentioned Gary's last name to John he asked if he were kin the one's from the Hope/Ezzell area. I said yes his Grandfather was from there. John then said "I worked cattle for him when I was younger". Small world. We managed to put 26 crappie in the box before they had to head back to Shiner and Houston. With the rain the lake has risen about a foot but is still a couple feet low. For the most part the bite has slowed down and I would guess that it was due to the rise in water. Sunday was really weird in that you would feel a tic/bump and set the hook but nothing. I finally decided to let the jig just sit there after a bump. Finally after about the 3rd or 4th bump they would thump the heck out of it. It was like they were just bumping the jig with their nose and when it wouldn't "leave" they would get ticked off and nail it. Fish were mainly in 17-22FOW and anywhere from 12ft to the bottom

You were fishing with snow in the background at the end of June in your photos or you afraid someone may know what lake? You were in Colorado or Canada?

LOL. Hilarious how people are that paranoid about where they fish. There is plenty of water and fish out there for everyone. Kiddo looks like he had a great time.

Thank You, Ma'am. He did have fun. He told me he had been practicing his jigging technique. Well, he had been practicing it. Unfortunately, he taken it to a whole new level. Once I showed him that he only needed to move the jig a couple of inches instead of a couple of feet he started catching fish. roflmao

Not worried about what lake just don't feel like making it easy for people to find spots who are not willing to put in the work to find them.

Laugh all you want. But, the lake I primarily fish is small to begin with (3100ac) and right now in the summer the majority of the fish I am catching are probably coming from less than 800ac, hardly enough water for an armada of boats. He did have a good time.

It is a 2000yr model and I have had it 4 years. It has been a great little rig and has served me well. I keep thinking about looking for something in the 18ft range and upgrading but I just can't seem to let her go. I have a friend of mine that has been trying to buy it from me ever since I picked it up. He duck hunts a lot and wants it because of the tunnel and jackplate.
