I'm still getting the hang of "catching" on that lake my self being a transplant from your home lake.
There is a long point down south - marked with a buoy I believe. It reminds me of Twin Trees point on Lewisville. I've always felt that location gives a lot of options to fish.

The last few times I've been I've had the family with me. 9yr old, 7yr old and a wife, so naturally I can't get to the lake prior to noon even though I start beating the drum as early as 5 a.m.

Down here, I feel the lake traffic can be worse than Lewisville. There is only one option of lake to go to for most people. So boat traffic can start to determine where you fish starting as early as 11.

Turkey Cove and Comal Park have courtesy docks that are helpful with these rocky banks.
Bring a snoopy pole and catch you some perch for bait. You might be able to catch some shad where the river comes in but it will be more work than it's worth.

Being this is on the Stripe thread, I guess your fishing for them?
Stripers can be caught using small perch or large minnows fishing the lower 1/2 of the lake.
The schools roam far so finding them is the key. The bid hump down by the dam sometimes holds them.

Being the 4th of July weekend the lake will be PACKED with pontoons, cruisers and jet ski's.
So much that I never venture out on that weekend.
Well, we do go down to the ramps and watch the circus. Bring lots of boat ramp patience.

I have been Bass fishing way up the river around the Rebecca Creek area targeting rocky banks and overhanging shelves, to avoid the crowds.
Been catching them on baby Spooks and Crawdad square bill Cranks.
Minnows have also put a lot of fish in the boat.
Way fewer boats up there.
I'm sure Bass are being caught on the main lake if your willing to put up with the waves and crowds.

Some Cats and Crappie in there also.

thanks. we don't plan to fish much. planning on floating and just relaxing for the most part. fishing will be a low priority however thanks for the info.

If you are looking to relax, head upriver. Really pretty. But go slow, as quite a few stumps in the mix with the lower water levels. Oh, and stop in to Baja BBQ at the Canyon Lake Marina for some good grub. Have fun!
