Ok , I am not one to tell fish stories but I went catfishing at Lake Fork Wednesday in the wind and rain. Caught 20-30 good fish in 20 and 30 feet deep water. I use 40 lb braid on an ambassador 6500 and a pro angler rod 7 foot long mh . I got a bite and the fish would not turn back , he ran drag and busted my line. Now this was using power pro braid and is very good line. My rod doubled and the tip touched the water and I am no Small boy. So that was using my regular Stubbys cheese bait which is the best bait. Now I have tried them all but Stubbys is the deal especially on Lake Fork.

Stubby and I were fishing one day and same thing happened, however I was able to bring it in and it was a 33lb carp. We thought I had caught a lake record channel cat

Are you sure the line broke? Braid knots have a tendency to slip after it gets wet and lubricated. I throw a couple of half hitches after tying my knot and cinching down or a drop of super glue on the knot will stop this.

Palomar knot is what you need to tie with braid.

My line did break and I know how to tie a knot and have had my knots tested on a machine before. Now it is possible that my line had been damaged on timber at lake fork. I was just totally surprised to have a fish pull that hard on that rig which I specifically set up for blue cat fishing. Now I dont target blues in lake fork but catch loads of channel cats with a few blues mixed in at times. I have been a regular bass then catfisherman for over 40 years but I am not immune to making a mistake. The fish just swam away and would not turn or slow down. It ran my drag a good bit before the line broke. I set my drag fairly tight because I use braid and I pull fish from stumps.
