Anyone done it? Looking for pointers on what to bring. We plan to hire a guide for one day, but want to fish more than one day. What gear would you recommend?

Heavy bass tackle will handle most tarpon up to 80lb or so. When the fish get over 100 lb you will want heavier gear. Big spinning or conventional gear with 80 lb braid , and fluorocarbon leader material, usually 60 lb leader, downsize to 40 lb in very clear water or highly pressured fish. Soft plastic swim baits or hard plastic topwaters should get bit. I have landed many Tarpon in Florida on live or dead bait, I have yet to land one on lures, Having said that , 99 % of my fishing has been with bait.
I have been to Belize once , fished a river near Belize city, it was a bust.
Good luck
Let us know how you do

We had one of my better saltwater trips. We went for Tarpon and found some. But, could not entice them to bite. However, we caught 36 spanish Makeral, Blackfin Tuna, Barracuda trolling in the morning and 7 bone fish and 2 Permit in the afternoon. I caught my first and second Permit ever. I wanted the big 3, but could not get a tarpon.
