I was fishing Lewisville Lake around the Lake Park boat ramp. A younger man launched a small boat with about a 10 hp motor. Along came 2 ladies and 2 kids. One had the little water wings and the other sat on the Mom's lap. Both were under 5 years old. He joked to me he might need us rescue him. His boat only worked in reverse. They pulled away from the dock. Well I know Lewisville lake and how things can happen. I just could not let them out of my sight. Lake Park had a Park Ranger. So i talked to him. He didn't notice the boat. I asked him to confirm what I witnessed and he agreed none of the kids had life jackets on. They were a long way from shore. But I went out to pay them a visit. Told them they needed life jackets on the kids, He said like this orange one? I said like that but one that fits young children. I told Park Ranger was going to talk to them. But they needed to return to shore. I followed them to make sure they got in. The Ranger was not going to give them a ticket but just boater safety info. I was terrified for them. One big wave and 5 people would be in the water. Not sure if this is the correct location for this post.

Lewisville is a tough lake for sure. With the right winds its a washing machine in a big boat much less a little one. Good job on potentially saving some lives. Every year people die in similar circumstances.

You are justified in your actions John.

You did good, John. Was out in front of Lake Park Sunday morning idling in a 20-foot deck boat and a guy cut right across my bow plowing up a maximum wake (not quite on plane, totally oblivious). The amount of water we took over the bow would have swamped the boat you are describing without a doubt.

You did the right thing man.
Accidents can happen in a split second, there is no time to grab the life jackets.

I always wear one when i am in the water no matter what.

My brother had a friend who went boat fishing by himself one day and never came home, they found his body 5 miles from his boat 14 days later, no life jacket.
