Spent three days and two nights fishing and camping both the Frio and Nueces Rivers. Rivers are in good shape but could use some rain! Water on both rivers is crystal clear with some nice Hydrilla beds. Myself and two friends of mine along with our girlfriends started out kayak fishing on the Frio river just down from Lakey. We finished on the Nueces at Chalk Bluff. We caught Bass, sunfish, and Rios. Biggest bass caught was 4 pounds. Biggest sunfish was 10 inches and the biggest Rio was was 9 inches. We also caught a bunch of smaller fish. Rios are sitting on nest. We also saw some sunfish still on nest. Fish on both rivers were hanging close to grass/Hydrilla beds in about 4 feet of water. We also picked up some nice fish by the deeper pockets of water. We made camp the first night at Neals on the Frio. We camped the second night at Chalk Bluff on the Nueces! We also enjoyed some cool swims and some super good eating. I was using both fly and ultralight spinning gear. Chartreuse/Yellow Grasshopper and Brown Crawdad got good results on the fly. Gulp alive worms and minnows got good result on the ultralight. Our girlfriends took care of the shuttle duties at the crossings. This was our second trip. We plan on making it a yearly event. I hope to make a day trip or two this year back to the canyon. Fishing and camping with great friends on some beautiful water in Texas. As Chuck (Banker) would say. "It just don't get any better"!

Camping sites where we stayed were not that busy. We were there on a week day. I was told that the weekends the sites get pretty busy!
