Guys I was at B-port yesterday and noticed millions of fry up the creeks and coves. I dont have a small net to try and scoop them up to see what they were but they were everywhere I went. Surely they werent baitfish? I never saw anything of size they were all fry size fish.
With that being said, I imagine they were sandies or largemouth fry given that I never found anything feeding on them that I could tell.

Yep, most likely shad especially given the amounts you are describing. Understand though that just because you saw nothing feeding on them that therefore they must be sandies or largemouth fry. Bass and all other gamefish are cannibals, they dont care what species they eat!

I agree, I just found it odd that I was there for half the day and never saw any heavy feeding action and didnt marked much of anything on the graph feeding near or on these schools!

While I realize that they are cannibals I was thinking that maybe it might have been gamefish fry and that the bigger fish were off chasing schools of bigger shad. But given the shad spawn in May it makes sense now.

Next question is, I threw just about everything in the boat and only caught a couple of unders. Last time I remember fishing where there were TONS of baitfish like this was at Tenkiller in Oklahoma several years ago. The fishing was tough too. What do you do in situations like this where the bigger gamefish have so much forage available that it seems they arent going after anything else?

Almost everybody has THE bait that they feel works when there seems like there is unlimited baitfish everywhere. Tiny Torpedos, 1/4oz Yellow Magics, buzzbaits, Flukes, squarebills..... but sometimes it can be actually tough fishing when baitfish are everywhere and they have limitless choices. Just my experiences but I agree that you will usually see them busting the baitfish that are available.

We were there last week and saw tons of something small swimming next to our boat. I don't know if they were bass fry or very small shad. They were everywhere.

Be safe,
