I'm looking at buying a new trailer for my old Ranger. I know the traditional knock on tubular trailers is that they rust from the inside out. But how big of a problem is it really? EZ Loader and Phoenix make some good looking tube trailers and I think Skeeter is putting all of their boats on EZ Loader trailers. Please let me know the good and bad. Thanks!

I'm not even sure you can get a new skeeter with an ez loader trailer anymore, they are making C-channel trailers in house, take a guess why...

They are major problem. I owned one. Never again. There is a reason manufacturers don't hardly offer them anymore

The best looking trailer I ever had was a Chaparral under a Dyna Trak back in the '80's. In 4 years it had rusted holes in the bottom of the side rails, and in the cross members. The closest it ever got to salt was Conroe. I drilled extra holes in the frame so air flow would help dry it out, but it didn't help. Still continued to rust. When I had to replace one of the lights and found sheets of metal rusting away in the frame, I decided to sell the whole rig. I know they're expensive, but the best thing you can put under your Ranger is another Ranger trailer.

As long as your not putting it in salt water a well made channel iron trailer will last 30 years, the problem with the ez loaders is not just the tube but also the steel they use. IDK if its thin guage or just cheap steel but I had a trailer that was only 4 years old that already had holes rusting through it.

Back in the mid eighties I had a custom made, tandem axle, chrome plated fenders, tube trailer. The welder showed me it would not leak by putting an air fitting in it and filling it with compressed air. The trailer did not leak down the air pressure. Within one year, I noticed in my garage, one of the welds looked a little rusty and was damp. I drilled a hole in the bottom of the lowest cross member, and water poured out. I will never own a tube trailer again.

Mine did and I switched to aluminum. A lot better ride too.

My Skeeter tube trailer is literally rusting away and like others have said, the new ones aren't a tube anymore.

BassCat uses "C" channel for a reason.
Mine is a 2002....zero rust.

C-channel or aluminum is the only way to go

C-channel OR Aluminum for a BOAT trailer. Period. Tube frames were a bad idea from the get go for a boat trailer that is dunked under water every time it's used. Basic common sense. Tube CAN be used successfully on other trailers. Cargo, utility, etc etc, but those trailers aren't submerged intentionally on a regular basis. They'll STILL rust from inside out but at a much slower rate.
Best boat trailer I personally ever owned was built by Magnum Trailers in Austin Tx. C-channel tandem axle that I replaced a tube framed trailer under a Triton Tr20 with. It WAS heavier by 200#'s but NEVER an issue with it.
