I was fishing Whitney on Monday the 11th and was noticing a log floating across the lake toward us. After about 20 min or so, I noticed the log looked like it had dorsal fins, but too long to be any fish I had ever seen in that lake. As it turned out, it was two very large Flatheads fightin it out. They both had bite marks and scrape marks on their heads and were locked together in a lip lock. They floated so close that my wife took a video of them and when they saw us, they let go of each other and swam away. It appears that one of them got it the other's nest and the fight began. I have a video of it and will put it up when I figure out how

How long do you reckon they were, as to length? You said "very large". My former boss, said he thought they got up to only about 48" & that was it. I said, no, they get bigger & longer.

I would guess they were 36" to 40" both were of different size, but big around and very dark colored

That's what I was thinking about it, they sure did travel a long way across the lake to drag each other away from the spot

Very cool.
You sure the were flatheads? look like at least the one closest to the camera was a blue, has a forked tail also.

Those are 2 male blues. Great to catch on camera. Couple years ago I was able to sneak up on them and have a customer touch one on the back. Very cool This is something the blues do each year in June and July When spawning.
