Gunnison/Crested Butte area, Lake City not too far. Two nice lakes and rivers.
Prepare for the future-it will be here tomorrow. Personal Best Large Mouth Bass 9 lbs. 12 oz 5/13/19. Herb Stein, who famously reminded us that “if something can’t go on forever, it will stop.”

Wife and I enjoy Breckenridge area but we like to stay a few miles outside of town. VRBO has some decent options. We go annually and ended up driving earlier this year.

Think we may go to the hills in Arkansas, instead.

We went to Mountain View, Arkansas last September. The weather was nice & there is plenty to keep busy. We stayed at a cabin that was fairly remote on Sylamore Creek. It was dog friendly & more than enough room for the wife & I. Caught a few nice smallmouth & perch fly fishing the creek by the cabin. We went on a guided trip down the White River & wore out the Rainbow trout. Also caught a nice 25 inch Brown Trout. We went to Blanchard Springs caverns & had a good time there also. It was very relaxing & the drive was pleasant.

Chris, a high school buddy of mine owns Mount Elbert Lodge in Colorado and they were not seeing any smoke this morning, but are smelling it. He also told me this morning that state authorities came by and told them, no bbqs, no outdoor fires and to cover the firewood stacks. I'm not sure how far NE this is from the fires, but I think going somewhere besides Co. is definitely the right call!

Well, the wife and I reserved a beautiful home in the mountains on Cascade Creek, just above Electra Lake, Co. Problem is, it's very near the wildfires burning just north of Durango. Even if the home is fine, I'm afraid the area will be charred and we won't have that nice Ponderosa pine scent in the air. More of a burned out forest smell, more than likely. Looking for recommendations on other places to go in late August. We want cool, mountains, changing Aspens, clean air and a very nice, remote home to rent. We have a house rented on Flathead lake in Somers Bay in late August. The lake is beautiful and it is surrounded by mountains. Glacier will still be open so a trip over the "Going to the Sun Road would be a possibility. There are tons of stuff to do in the Flathead area. One place would be the Buffalo Range in the south end of the valley. Great place to see wild life. You fly to Denver and then Denver to Kalispell. Driving from Texas is about 4 to 5 days each way. Another place to look is Idaho. Sandpoint and Coeur d'aLane are good places to visit. Coeur d'aLane has the bike "road" that is about 70 miles called Trail of the Coeur d'aLanes.

If you are planning on changing locations I would also recommend moving your time a week or so if possible. My wife and I found that vacationing after labor day was far better. No crowds, weather a little cooler, and some Aspen changes in the higher elevations. Also recommend any area around Teluride. Inside the town is not a secluded get-a-way but there are homes available in more remote areas around it. The town itself is really a neat place to visit and the restaurants are great.
