Nice bag fat fish.. If somebody wanted to take a boat and stay overnight, what might be a good plan?

There are 2 parks on the lake...Park Prairie Park & Oak Thicket. I believe they rent cabins at Oak Thicket. The sign where I launch (Park Prairie Park) says open at sunrise & close at sunset. I live in New Braunfels so am not familiar with accommodations. You can probably find a website if you google Fayette County Lake.

Canyoncreek.Sure...pretty simple set up. 6 lb test fluorocarbon Stren. 1/8 ounce egg sinker & #6 long shank hook with a swivel 6-8 inches up. Put the egg sinker above the swivel. Since there are 3 knots involved I prepare 5 or 6 swivel to hook set ups before I go so break offs are quicker to fix...I hate spending time on the water tying knots. Hope this helps...

I figured it was something like that. Just wanted to be sure. You fish it vertically or casting it out or both. Thank You.

Canyoncreek...I cast out & immediately reel in a few turns just to get the slack out of the line on the fall. This also helps separate the hook & the swivel on the fall. I have found that the longer you let it set on the bottom, the better chance you have of catching red ear. If bluegill are in the spot they will usually hit quickly. I do plan on trying a drop shot setup in the future to keep the bait off the bottom slime...especially in the summer months.

As always great report Vogey! Will be fishing Fayette during the early fall for sure! Keep living the dream. Tried fishing Dunlap last week but there was just to many wake boats out that day.

The times that I have used minnows for crappie I use a drop shot rig or plain jig head. I can detect the bite better on a drop shot vs. the weight on top. >E
