I�m talking a drop from say, 10 feet that drops to 30+, what type of jig works best? Football jig? I�m thinking 3/4 or 1 oz football jig. Also, what type of trailer an retrieve? I have almost no experience fishing a heavy jig on ledges so For those of you that do, let�s hear how.

First: I follow the contour out and around this feature, watching the map contours with split screen and making sure I stay off the fish. Make long cast to the lip of the drop as far as possible with search baits that can be cast long distances. Work it as slow as possible all the way around following contour in deep water. If I am in the back seat a Crig will be used with as light of weight as the wind will allow to drag the contour along the bottom of the feature at 25 to 30 ft.. After the area has been covered from the top to the bottom, then move to the top of the ledge.

Second: Position the boat on top of the ledge and spot lock if you have that feature. With a 1 oz. football jig start a fan fishing technique off into deep water. Move the jig ever so slow up the incline staying in full contact with the bottom, wall and slope. Your partner should be throwing and entirely different rig and doing the same until a pattern is established. Be patient leaving it in the strike zone for a few seconds before each move of the bait.

Jig is my Baby Doll with Rattling BB Dome eyes with Crayfish Scented living Rubber skirt. The trailer is hand poured full of salt and Craylic Extract. The flappers have the tall ridge line so it vibrates and moves lots of water.

Depends. A true ledge and not dragging deep water I go lighter. You're covering a few feet every time you move I want it to fall slower.

I like to sit out off away from the ledge and fan cast.
with a drop that big I use a 1/2 oz. to 3/4 oz. mop jig with a full size brush hog for a trailer. its a BIG jig but the bass love it. work it slowly and try to feel every rock, pausing once you come over each rock they will nail it.
my set up is a 7'6" heavy Dobyns sierra series rod with a shimano K series reel spooled with 25 pound test. good luck.

All depends on where the fish are positioned on the ledge. If they are on top of the ledge right before the drop your jig weight probably won't be a big deal just as long as you can keep in on the bottom. If they are right off the drop you will need to figure out if they like a fast falling jig (reaction bite) or one that's more bulky and slow falling. 5/8oz is my go to 95% of the time but there are times when a 1oz jig falling supper fast off the top of the ledge gets more bites simply because they will react to it plummeting down the drop.
