Gitter Done...It's the first I have heard of it as well, but he said it is an annual event. He said they follow it up with a big fish fry...maybe it's a local thing ? I have only been fishing for sunnies at Fayette for a couple years & have yet to see anyone else fishing for this species, but I do see lots of floats in trees, so there has to be a few of us. Talked to 2 bass fisherman at 11:00 am and they said they had not caught a fish all day. When they asked me if I had any luck, I just smiled internally & said ...yea...a little.

Laker...I assume you will be fishing from your kayak at Fayette. Do you launch from Park Prairie Park or Oak Thicket ? How far do you go in your kayak...can you fish the entire lake, or are you limited to the areas closer to the parks ? Let me know b4 u go & I will give u more detail... I put in at Oak Thicket! I fish the reed beds on the east side. I also fish the stick-up (sunken timber) east of Oak Thicket. The Redear are in those timbers but you really have to look for them. I can fish a lot of area from Oak Thicket. Never launched from Park Prairie Park. I have also seen a couple of kayak tournaments over the years on Fayette and they have always used Oak Thicket. I have always enjoyed putting in at that park!

I have always enjoyed fishing that Lake over the years! It is well kept up compared to the power plant lakes here in San Antonio. Judging by all of the past Fayette reports over the last couple of years it is still producing good fish!

They have been doing it for quite some time...at least 5-6 years that I know of. I don't think that taking that much has a net negative effect. The size is there and 95% of the lake traffic target bass year-round so the gills never get much pressure at all. They are also prolific spawners. In every water body there has to be some "take" in order to maintain healthy populations. Research has shown that taking too many will actually stunt the fish populations so if you compare the size that you typically catch on this lake then there is a healthy population with low "take". Thinking of it in the bigger context, the number of fish taken (usually only 15-20 boats in the tournament) doesn't make much of a dent in the population. In addition, most of these fish are deep the majority of time and out of the reach of most anglers too.
Just my 2 cents. All arguments for and against hold equal weight in my book.

Crickethook...I am sure you are right, and the game warden as well...It's just that I have only found these guys in a handful of areas on the lake. But... I have not spent a lot of time searching deeper...
