LOL!!!

When I was 18 my very first boat was a 16' King Fisher that looked just like that but was blue and white. One February day I went out to Ray Hubbard and pulled into a very well known area full of high dollar bass boats. Turned out there was a tournament that day and that's why everyone was packed into that little spot. Anyway I pulled up there and started flipping the flooded cover and was just flat out whacking them!!! My best 5 that day probably were around 27 pounds anchored by one close to 8 pounds, and lost another one close to 9 pounds. Every single boat in that area had to come by and see what I was using and several guys tried to buy every bait I had in the boat that day but I refused to sell them. I didn't see one single fish caught in there that day except for the ones I caught. roflmao

Yes I would fish out of a Jon boat in a heartbeat. In some cases it might be beneficial to be in a boat like that instead of one of the shiny go fast rigs.

old is before there was gibsons or otasco and you had to buy from a local hardware store or possibly a bait shop....
back in 1978 I had 3 small children at home and couldn't afford a big fiberglass boat so I bought a combo bass/duck boat...it was a 14 1/2 ft duracraft aluminum jon boat,35 hp hand crank, tiller steer E-rude with probably an 18lb thrust motorguide hand control trolling motor...belonged to a 60 man bass club and won fisherman of the year in 1979 and 1980 then moved to Columbus,Ga. and won fisherman of year on new club I joined there....so you can win in a jon boat and you can go and fish places the big boats can't get into...

Unfortunately, OR FORTUNATELY, I belong to the old club, going back and buying tackle at a Sears store or a local tackle shop. Course, I was probably 6 or 7 at the time, but that still counts. Outlived my doctors predictions that when I became diabetic in 1972, they said I would live until 38 or possible 40 and then I would die. My grandmother was head diatician at Baylor, so we never did do the same diet as everyone else was having too. 57 now and still kicking along, not as fast as I used too, but still kicking. So< THERE, doctors, proved you wrong... Tight lines, keep safe and good luck. Most of the Friday night T/s were less than 10 anglers, though, so it is not that big of a deal. Biggest one we had was 32 anglers and my partner won it out of an OLD aluminum boat, probably made in teh 70's or so, it is a 15 or 16'er and goes like 45 or so at WOT. Has a 75 horse kicker on it.

Since it's a numbers game, you'd be at a disadvantage. But for any given tournament, your john boat will do just

Yes. I've never caught more fish in any boat, then I did in the 12' Jon boat with a 5hp motor on it that we had when I was a kid.

Buddy or mine and I used to fish a local club. Tournaments were on Houston Livingston, Conroe, Toledo and Rayburn every year. We were both 16 and fished out of a 2 man boat with one those small built in live wells. We won team AOY 2 years in a row. It ain't about what your in. Fish don't know the difference.

BTW,

If that comment is coming my way, think about this. My uncle used to own all of one arm of the lake (Gobbler Creek) and I have the lake video taped at 25', 31', 43' and 55' depths. Remember, I AM A CONFIDENT fisherman and it comes thru on some catches sometimes. One I won with a small bass that weighed .54 lbs. A young man was 2nd with .50 lbs. I wish I would have given him the winnings of 7 people fishing. Live and learn. We hold 12 tournaments a year, so 8 wins out of 60 is not that big of a deal, but it is w/o a boat. Tight lines, keep safe and good luck.

Don't care if it is directed at me or not. I just do not care.
OH, there is no minimum length to the first 2 fish on Alan Henry, just so you know. If you keep 3 to 5 however, the rest must be 18" long or longer.

I've bought many lures from western auto, whites auto, sears, monkey wards and mail order from Herters!

I fished tournaments out of a Jon boat in college. It had a small livewell that we had 15-16 lbs in many times and never had a problem.
