I’m Interested in using a swimbait out deep. Thanks for your input.

What weight swimbait hook for 20-30’?
What size swimbait?
Thinking about using a lft magic shad 5.5”
Would using a heavy chatterbait be a smart idea?
In your opinion would a swimbait or spoon put more fish in the boat.

Thaanks for your time

For that depth I use 3/4 - 1 oz. Bait size is something you will have to experiment with. If there are big Gizzard Shad around, step up the size, but 5-6" would be a good start. A 1 oz Finch Nasty Thumper with a LFT Magic Shad trailer can be money this time of year. Spoons & swimbaits both have their time/place. Again, you may have to try both.

Now that it's getting hot and the Summer light angle has developed one my best techniques is to take a light weight Owner Beast 5/0 and a Fringe Tackle 5" swimbait Mo Jo rig. Instead of having the hook come out the top turn it so it comes out the side.
Find the bluegill beds and pull out to depth and drag/sweep, non brood gills are outliers.

Funny the last poster mentioned Fringe Tackle, although I prefer their 7" in Blue Gizzard or Sexy Shad on a 3/4oz or 1oz 8/0 jig head dragged on the bottom or close to it. War Baits makes a 10/0 jig head with a weed guard for slow rollin through timber or stump fields if you prefer an open hook. You could just use an owner 8/0 beast also. Trokar makes a 1/2oz 9/0 if you need a weedless hook a little heavier. Sixth Sense has an 8/0 1oz head but you need a lot of glue for that one. The Fringe bait is a hollow belly not a hollow body so it is better for securing on big hooks -- more plastic = more rigging options and better durability over the hollow bodys.

Are you wanting weedless type?

Most of the deeper swimbaiting is done with jig head baits like keitechs or the good ole money minnowon a jig head

If your wanting to cover the hook look at weighted owner beasts and whatever bait you want to try

I do weighted swim bait hooks with and without an under spin in 6/0 or 8/0 hooks up to 1 oz. I also do spinner baits built just for rigging swim bait on up to 1 oz with 6/0 and 8/0 hook. Very popular on my site and the Tackle Warehouse site also. Cannot keep them in stock on their site !!!
